Story
We adopted Scott eight months ago from a high kill shelter. We had him spayed, micro-chipped and have been working with a trainer. He is smart, adorable, energetic and amusing. He is very bonded with me and my husband and would quickly become bonded with new owners. He does very well on leash and loves walks. He knows sit, down and go to bed and is very treat motivated and energetic. He is aggressive towards strangers, prefers women to men and I would not trust him with children or other pets. My adult daughter lives with us and he will get dominant with her. This is the main reason we are needing to rehome him. If it was just my husband and me we might be able to manage him but it’s causing too much stress in our home. We would be willing to deliver him anywhere if someone might be able to enjoy his good qualities and wouldn't mind his challenging ones.

Story
Clifford von Breese is an adorable 1-2 year-old jack russell? mix who is very loving and sweet with his bonded people. This lucky little guy is being fostered in one of Westside’s most experienced foster homes, where he receives ample affection and direction while he waits for that very special ‘forever’ home. Clifford holds a remarkable passion for those he trusts, enthusiastically greeting all members of the foster family with leaps of joy and ample wet kisses when they return home, especially enjoying hugs and cuddles on the sofa with the family. He savors the energetic playtime in the yard with his foster fur siblings as much as he does the gentler long walks in the neighborhood with his favorite people. Clifford’s prior life on the streets of LA came with its challenges -- where he did his best to love and protect the homeless woman who eventually relinquished him because she could no longer care for him – but Clifford’s life took an extraordinary turn with Westside. His foster family is so proud of the crucial adjustments that Clifford has made to this significant lifestyle change, facilitated by an environment of trust and compassion that was offered to this sweet young guy. Being a super smart lad, Clifford quickly became convinced of his great fortune and has blossomed into a well-adjusted member of his foster family. Clifford sleeps quietly in his crate all night, is housebroken, and otherwise very trustworthy in the family’s house. Visitors to the home can be initially daunting for him, but Clifford’s energy can easily be redirected to some yummy treats or fun toys while he gains comfort around new people. Because of his background experiences, there will be an adjustment period for his forever family that will include patience and slow introductions; his ideal home would be on the quieter side without young children and without frequent visitors. Clifford can't wait to meet you and to begin the newest chapter of his life....your efforts will be richly rewarded as you witness all the love that Clifford has to give you in return. Clifford von Breese is in a foster home, offsite, and is NOT at our rescue location in Los Angeles. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN Clifford von Breese YOU MUST FILL OUT AN APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: www.sheprescue.org Application link: http://www.sheprescue.org/Application_to_Adopt_a_Dog%20Main.html Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.

Story
Max is an approximately 2-year-old, neutered male. He weighs in at 25 pounds and is long and tall. Max loves to cuddle and give kisses. He’s a family-friendly pet who loves to be the center of attention. He enjoys long walks and playing with his toys. Max is a dog who enjoys the company of and playing with other dogs. He would also be okay with both being the only dog of the house, provided he gets lots of love and attention. While being in his foster family’s care, he has learned basic commands, learned how to go potty outside as well as on potty pads, but is still a little rough around the edges. He could easily trained to use a doggie door. He has lots of energy and is still working on eliminating his desire to jump on humans. He is very treat and attention motivated and is easy to train overall, he just needs consistent and firm reinforcement. His foster family includes small and large children, both of which he does well with. Max is a dog requiring supervision if he’s around smaller children. Although very friendly, he sometimes forgets his size when playing with toys and young children. His favorite game to play with other dogs and humans alike is, “tug of war,” and he is quite good at it! During his time with his foster family, Max started urinating blood, marking, and peeing everywhere, every few minutes. Feeling like something serious was wrong, Max was rushed to the veterinarian. A veterinarian visit revealed he had a urinary tract infection and inflammation of his prostate; nothing some antibiotics and neutering wouldn’t fix. Max had fully recovered, no longer marks around the house, and acts like a gentleman. Max is a fun-loving, empathetic, and cheeky younger dog, with many years left to love and play. He requires a person or family with lots of love to give, time for walks, and firm & positive training reinforcements. As long as he’s exercised, he can be left alone during the day for his person/family to work and return home. In his foster family, he has been left alone with his other dog friends for the duration of a workday. As long as he has his walk, or has friends to play with, he is a happy camper.
