Story
*My adoption fee has been sponsored by a FFAS supporter!* Hi-ya! I'm Scrappy! Little, cute, and the best sidekick, just like my namesake! I came to the shelter when my family wasn't able to take care of me anymore and I must say - it's a big change from a cozy home to a shelter kennel. I'm just a baby, just under a year old, and I'm already almost 45 pounds! I hope that my new family has a love for big, goofy boys, because that's what I'll be when I grow up! I love playing with other social and active dogs, so if you have a canine sibling, that would be ideal! I would love a patient family who is willing to help me learn all of my best boy manners as I grow up - could that be you? I would love to start the journey out of the shelter and into my true, forever, happily ever after!    Have Room in Your Home? Welcoming in a pet saves your new pet's life and creates space for another pet to get a chance! Not sure if Scrappy would be the best fit for you? Send in a generic app! Our team will work with you to find a pet to best fit your lifestyle! You will go home with a starter bag of food, one month of flea and heartworm prevention, and also have 90 DAYS of training help included with your adoption, if needed! Story
ABOUT MALIBU This sweet lady came to HAP with her puppies all the way from Alabama! Malibu is a 2 year old black lab mix that has been loving life in foster. Here's what her foster family has to say about her: "Malibu is incredibly lovable and cuddly! She walks good on the leash, does not pull, and mostly ignores other dogs on walks. When picking up our kids at the bus stop, she waits patiently by my side to greet them. She has done great with all kids, ours are 8 and 10 year old's. She loves to be near her family and gives tons of kisses. Malibu does well in the crate overnight and occasionally during the day, when we leave, without making a peep. She had a few accidents in our house in the beginning, but now I would say she's house-trained. She's very curious, loves to explore and play, but also likes to relax with you. She knows sit and laydown, she'll even wait for the ok to eat her food. She was a little scared when we first got her and can be reactive when guests enter the house. She would do best going in a crate or separate space when new visitors are around until she builds more confidence. We have a cat and she does try to chase him, so a home with a dog-savvy cat or no cats would be perfect." If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
ABOUT GOLDIE As her name would suggest, this lady has a heart of gold! Our sweet Goldie girl is a 2 year old yellow lab mix with a typical goofball lab personality! Goldie came to HAP from a high-intake shelter partner when they no longer had space for her. Despite being in the shelter, nothing could take the smile off her face! Goldie is a complete and total mush with people, frequently tossing her back end into you for booty scratches. While she may love people, there's one thing she loves even more...toys! Whether she's playing with you or tossing a bone for herself, this girl loves toys! She has the most dramatic play bows and the fanciest of prances we've seen. When she's feeling extra excited, she will talk back to you and serve up some (hilarious) sass! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. **The girls have unique requirements**  My beautiful Chessie/Lab sisters Cher & Sienna. (1) Must be adopted together, and the adoption fee is waived for one of them. They came from a previously severely abusive home when they were pups & (2) are waiting for the perfect family to come along that must have previous experience with abused dogs. They are very sweet and gentle & love kind & tender attention.    Cher is a very shy yet charming canine on a journey to find a patient parent(s) with a relaxed lifestyle. She's looking for someone who can offer gentle guidance to help her come out of her shell. If you treat her sweetly and kindly, she promises to blossom in your care. Meet Our Shy but Sweet Canine Duo - Lab/Chessie Sisters Sienna and Cherry, our Lab/Chessie sisters, have had a challenging start in life. They require a special family with personal experience in caring for abused dogs. These pups have unique needs stemming from their traumatic past, akin to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Both Sienna and Cherry are on medication called Clonidine, which has significantly improved their well-being and is affordable at only $10 for 180 tablets from Walmart. Background Sienna and Cherry's journey began when they were rescued at the tender age of 5 months. They were starving and scared but have now transformed into beautiful and loving dogs under our care. Personality While initially shy, these sisters have charming personalities that shine through once they feel safe and loved. They yearn for an home that can provide patience and a relaxed lifestyle to help them fully recover from their past traumas. Requirements We are seeking a family with personal experience in caring for abused dogs. Sienna and Cherry need a family that understands their history and is committed to continuing their healing and trust-building journey. Physical Characteristics As of now, both dogs weigh around 75 lbs when fully grown. There are a few videos below so you can see how they react here in their foster home. Witness their incredible transformation in this video, from their first arrival as scared, starving pups to their thriving selves today.  How to Adopt If you have the love, patience, and experience to provide a forever home to these deserving Lab/Chessie sisters, please  read our adoption requirements & if you can meet or exceed them, you can apply online. Your kindness can help them fully embrace the loving life they deserve. Let's give these sisters the second chance they've been waiting for. Together, we can make their future brighter and full of love. &#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143 Please Note We have a strict requirement that they can only be adopted by a family with personal experience in caring for abused dogs. Our lovely Lab/Chessie sisters were abused in their previous lives in VA. While they've made great progress in their foster home, they are initially nervous around humans. However, with time and patience, they warm up and show no aggression, only a deep longing for trust and love. We accept Venmo, Zelle, PayPal & Credit Cards for the adoption fee.      About LNF Dogs/Puppies: All dogs and puppies have undergone temperament testing. They live in foster homes. They are housebroken (puppies are paper-trained) and crate trained. They have been microchipped for identification purposes. They have been tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, and Lyme disease. Each dog is on year-round Heartworm medication while in the rescue's care. They are up-to-date with Rabies, Bordetella, Distemper, Parvo, and Leptospirosis vaccines. They have been wormed. Adoption Fee: The adoption fee includes 30 days of FREE pet insurance, with an option to purchase additional coverage. The rescue strives to provide the best medical care to ensure the health of the dogs, including spaying or neutering. Adoption Requirements: A minimum physical fence of 4 feet in height is mandatory and must be installed. Some dogs may require a 6-foot wood or vinyl fence, as noted in their profiles. Electric fences are not accepted under any circumstances. These requirements and procedures are in place to ensure the safety and well-being of the adopted dogs and to provide potential adopters with healthy and well-cared-for pets. He was not properly socialized and now he is showing fear aggression with strangers. We will post updates about him. If you would be interested in sponsoring his training please visit our website to make a donation. Any help is greatly appreciated! Reggie was surrendered to a shelter when his owners could no longer keep him. He is about 1 year old. He is nervous at first and will need someone to understand this and continue to help him gain confidence. He is super sweet when he gets to know you. He is full of energy and loves to play.
