Peanut is a senior 9ish year old, Lab/Golden mix at about 75ish lbs who was literally "left with the house" when his so-called people, sold their house... they just abandoned him. He went to a shelter for 2 months and they said that he was exceptionally friendly, loves other dogs and passed the cat test with flying colors. (GRRAND has not cat tested him) We are so happy that Peanut went to a foster home and this is what they say: Hi, I’m Peanut! Though I’m more like a Brazil nut! (haha doggie humor!) 'cause I’m a big boy but a good one! I love to eat…but treats…I don’t like them, I LOVE them! When I was at the shelter, I was that dog sitting in the corner of my kennel waiting to be noticed. All the other dogs were barking “PICK ME! PICK ME! and they were picked - over me. (sigh) Just because my muzzle may be a bit gray, or my eyes not as bright or my gait not as gingerly, I got passed over again and again. And then, I got SO LUCKY and someone took me into their home from the GRRAND rescue.Now in my foster home, I go readily into my big kennel. Then when it’s time to go outside, I like to run around the yard and then lay down on my doggie bed under the deck.When inside I will nudge you to be petted, take treats easy from your hand, sit on command, and go lay down when it’s time to. I am learning “Wait” and “Stay.” And I know that “No” means “No”!I walk easy on a leash and love to ride in the car and put my muzzle out the back window.When I am at home and not sleeping, my eyes and ears are attentive to what my foster mom is doing, hoping she will include me. Doc is a beautiful 4 year old, 100+ish lb Labrador who is hanging out at the GRRAND kennel waiting for his forever family and we can't understand why he hasn't been snapped up and adopted and in his new forever home yet! He cannot go to a home with children, so he is looking for an adult only dog savvy home, and we believe at this time, he needs to be the only pet in the home. He demonstrates all of the usual Lab behaviors; he loves to fetch, swim, and climb on you and park his 100+ lbs body on your lap! He lights up when he sees someone familiar and gives such an awesome welcome; the volunteers at the kennel just love him to bits and can't say enough great things about him. He is a big boy and we have him on a diet right now and he is getting lots of exercise. He has been swimming every day and we are working on his leash manners as he pulls hard - he loves to lunge at squirrels when we go walking. He seems to like the more passive girl dogs than the boys, and we are working on him taking treats from our hand less enthusiastically! The kennel staff says "He is doing well at the kennel. Roger is an 8 year old, 75ish lb Lab mix who is sadly looking for a home where he can spend his senior years! His owner has health issues which are causing the sad decision to rehome Roger. He needs a home with no kids under the age of 16, as he tends to be a resource guarder when he has something in his mouth and someone tries to get it from him, so dog savvy owners would be best for this handsome boy. His people say "We really want Roger to go to a good family that can love him and give him the proper care and exercise he truly needs and wants. We had to downsize and now we don't have a fenced yard for him to run around in, so he is full of energy and we cannot get out with him the way he needs and he does not get many walks. He really needs a yard to run in, with space to spread out, be free and play, and we can not provide that for him. On walks, he can bark at the wildlife, and cars and bikes, so we all really miss the fenced yard we used to have for him". His people also tell GRRAND: "He is a sweet dog and just loves to be around me, loves to get affection and be petted, and follows me from room to room! Roger lets me know when people are at the house because he gets so excited and he barks a bit when they come in, but settles down quickly and melts into the background after about 5 minutes. He is very well house trained and has never had an accident in the house, and he will bark and let me know when he needs to go out or when he needs/wants something". He used to have a doggie companion who passed away and he is said to miss his friend and is lonely. This is Kiley... She is a 2.5 year old, about 72ish lb, beautiful Labrador Retriever that has had a rough start to her short life. We know little about Kiley other than what is speculated by our vets and learned from her foster mom. She will not be ready for adoption until about mid-September as she is having ACL surgery on July 16 and it will be 6-8 weeks before she is ready to move to her... FOREVER FAMILY!!!! WE ARE HOPEFUL! She also has had a couple of litters (as the vet reports) and had lumps on 2 of her nipples... and they, and the tumors have since been removed, went to the lab, and have just come back today (July 8) from biopsy as benign!!! YAY!!! Kiley was also spayed a few weeks ago. We are so happy to be here for Kiley, but as you can see, the bills keep coming and GRRAND is asking for help on this sweet girls surmounting vet care. Kiley, when ready for her forever family, is NOT a candidate for apartment living, so will need to go to a home where if she barks because her people left, won't be a problem, and she needs to have a fenced in yard. She gets along with other dogs, and does fine with kids. She spent lots of time with her foster mom's 6 year old grandchild and she had no issues whatsoever. She also lives with a cat that she was curious about at first but only in the sense of " hey... what’s that"? But now, they coexist just fine... hang out in the same room, sniff each other, and even drink out of the same water bowl! She does not mind the crate, except when left home. When her foster mom is home, she will occasionally sleep in it, but when her foster mom leaves, she coaxes her with a good treat, and gives her a little "love nudge" to go in. It is thought early on, that she is more attached to her people than her 4-legged friends, and if you are home more than not, THAT'S a PERFECT thing for Kiley! This beautiful girl is Faith... Faith was one of the breeder dogs that was rescued from horrid conditions from the Amish puppy mill rescue in early Dec. Faith & Ivy are a bonded pair and as of now (mid-March 2024) we anticipate that they may be ready to consider being transitioned to the right adoptive family, possibly by June. **** Faith continues to be extremely unsocialized at this time, and the type of home she is needing is not just your typical home. There are quite a few MUST HAVES for her and they are: MUST have someone who is experienced in helping unsocialized breeder dogs transition from the kennel situation to a home. This is NOT just for anyone, as the time and patience put into helping to rehabilitate these dogs is huge. She also MUST have another stable dog, MUST have a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the house, MUST have someone home more than the typical working family, and a home with NO kids under the age of 16. We are still learning about Faith but we do know she is very fearful of everything right now. You can tell she WANTS to get love but she is very hesitant and when one of the volunteers was able to pet her (once), she laid down in fear. Faith has only known the small confines of a kennel, so this new world she has been introduced to is very scary for her. She finds comfort in other dogs as when she is in the play area with volunteers, she was very indifferent and not so interested in people, but when she is outside with some other dogs, she will get excited and bounce around some. We know we need to get her out of the kennel so she can begin her new journey in life. She needs to find a forever family or foster family that is excited to show her what love and compassion are about. Faith is going to take time... things can not be rushed for her. As said above, she is going to need to have a stable dog living in the home so they can show her the ropes and help build her confidence in everything, especially people. Faith is considered a flight risk, and will need a home with a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the home. We do not know how she will be with kids and or chaos, so a home with no kids under the age of 16 is best and we do not know how she is with cats at this time.
