Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ROMEO hails from CAT LAKE in Northern Ontario and he came south with his mum and 5 siblings to find his forever home. His mum is a Labrador Retriever/Gt Pyrenees mix and weighs 60lbs but his dad is unknown. The breed mix we have him listed as and the size he’ll grow to be is just a guess as we really have no way of knowing. He’s received his 3 sets of puppy vaccines including his rabies, a microchip and been deemed a healthy boy by his vet. His nick name is Chunk due to being the biggest in the litter. He’s a happy-go-lucky, confident, fun-loving, easy going guy who loves nothing better than giving out puppy kisses and cuddling with you on the couch. ROMEO is crate trained and sleeps quietly in it through the night and will also take his naps in there during the day. He’s 99% house trained and will let you know when he has to go outside for a bathroom break. He’s doing really well on his leash walks and enjoys going on them. He’s a well socialized, easy going puppy who loves to play with with all sorts of toys and play chase with the resident dogs in his foster home. He would love to be in a home with some fur siblings but he’d be equally as happy being an only child. He would also love to find an active family who will take him on walks, hikes and basically enjoy being outdoors with him. He doesn’t travel too well in a vehicle and it’s definitely not his favourite place to be. On a couple of occasions he’s had an upset tummy in it too.  ROMEO’s being fostered with a trainer and he’s a lot of puppy training so is a well mannered boy who knows all the basic commands and then some. Lots of different size dogs come to visit the home and he’s got along well with all of them. He hasn’t met a cat but if the cat is dog savvy and with a monitored introduction they should get along okay. Children should be aged 6 and up and he does require a fenced-in yard.  Puppies are fun and cute but also require a lot of work, patience and dedication to training. We need his potential adopter to be in agreement to sign him up for obedience/puppy training in order to adopt him. His neuter is included in his adoption fee and will be performed at the Barrie SPCA by no later than 9 months of age or he reaches 60lbs (whichever comes first.) We also need you to be in agreement with this in order to adopt him.  If you would like to meet ROMEO then please submit the adoption application to do so. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 21, 2024, 10:51 pm

Story
Hi, my name is Hazel, Female - spayedLabrador Retriever MixApprox. 1 year old I'm a life of the party kind of girl! I'm always ready for some fun and excitement. Anything you do, I'll be right by your side. I'll keep life full of surprises in the best way possible, the fun with me is guaranteed! My reactions to: Dogs - The more the merrier, I would love another furry friend to play around and be a goofball with!Cats - As I can be eager to meet new things and very playful, I'd prefer a slow calm introduction to new kittiesMeeting New People - I can be overly excited and bouncy therefore I may need some time to contain my excitement, once calm we'll be the best of friends Children - As I can be overly excited and bouncy, I may need sometime to contain my excitement. If they don't mind a slobbery kiss or sharing some treats, I'll be happy as can be!Car rides - I don't have much experience on car rides though given my eager personality I'll be ready to go anywhere by your sideHouse trained - I do my best to hold my business until I am able to relieve myself outside. Some might even say I'm a PRO!Obedience training - I've shown great progress in training, I'm always eager to learn and love showing off my skillsLeash Manners - I would benefit from some extra attention for my leash manners, like everyone says practice makes perfect!Playtime - PLAY is my middle name! Story
Rita is sure to pull on your heart strings with her gentle tail wag and sweet demeanor. Rita is very attached and loyal to her owners. She needs time to trust new people, and it will take patience for her to make human friends. Lots of treats, positive reinforcement and slow introductions are the right way to go. When Rita is rushed meeting new people she can have a bad reaction and bite, so it is very important she interacts with people when she is comfortable. Rita can be leash reactive towards dogs and strangers. She can sometimes make friends with dogs, with a careful muzzled introduction. Rita reacts less when you incorporate lots of positive reinforcement and distance from her trigger, and she will need this type of training longterm to ensure her reactivity does not regress. Rita would do best in a teen only home.

Story
Bella would make a great companion for anyone looking for a low-maintenance dog. She is a 30 lb couch potato who enjoys cuddles, is very affectionate with her person, and makes a great reading buddy. Bella also loves to sleep in and goes to her foster mom's bed around 9 pmto warm it up! Bella is a tripod due to a car accident in Mexico when she was younger. At 6 years old, she moves around well but a home without a lot of stairs would be ideal. While Bella is happy to chill on the couch, she also loves her walks. Moderate daily exercise is great. She enjoys the mental stimulation of sniffing and exploring her local neighbourhood. Plus, walks help to keep her single hind leg strengthened and weight stable. Bella can be selective with dogs. She is currently living in a foster home and has had a few other rescue dogs come and go. She interacts with most of them well. At times, Bella can be reactive to other dogs when she is on her walks. A quiet home is best for Bella with either another dog or someone home more often than not. She can be left for periods on her own. An experienced dog person or couple without kids would be ideal. Initially, Bella was adopted when she arrived from Mexico a few years ago. Unfortunately, she was surrendered to Paws Above Rescue after her adopter became ill and passed away. If you would like to meet Bella or are interested in adopting her, please fill out an application at https://pawsaboverescue.ca/dog-adoption/ Please visit our website www.pawsaboverescue.ca to learn more about this amazing pet and to see other available dogs and cats.
