From the ownerNiska was originally rescued from six nations, was extremely malnourished, and had to be taught to eat out of the bowl as she was aprx 5 to 6 weeks old ( I believe). Her Breed is unknown other than the vet stating she is a Labrador retriever mix. Niska is almost 8 months old now, 50Lbs, is very friendly and playful, and a curious puppy. She is a heavy chewer, but only with her toys, her favorite toys are her Kong and Kong brand rubber bone. Niska is totally housebroken, She is crate trained but also does well sleeping in her own bed beside mine at night. She has been raised so far as a farm dog, she hasn`t had the typical socializing that a dog living around town would. She is attentive and listens well at home with me, but tends to be very hyper when meeting new people. Niska loves to play with our cat, and is friendly to everyone, but when you meet her she greets with her mouth (like play biting) a habit I have been trying to break. She has a very high prey drive with squirrels and birds so has to be watched with that. Cutting her nails is also a challenge. I am sure she was mistreated as a young puppy because when she came to us she was extremely timid, and can still be timid over loud noise and being outside at night. Niska will benefit from patience as she gets past her puppy stage and continues to learn. She gets an egg every day for a snack to keep her coat nice and shiny, her bed time snack is a `chewy` (dental chew stick) and she has been fed Purina true instincts dog food, anything but the chicken flavor (chicken gave her some dry skin previously). Unfortunately due to my life circumstances, I can`t take her where I`m moving and have no choice but to find her a loving forever home.

This handsome boy was adopted earlier this year but sadly returned just a month later. Pongo is a truly special pup who needs an equally special home to match. At just 6 months old and 45 lbs, Pongo is full of energy, smarts, and heart. While we were told he might be a Border Collie/Lab mix, we aren’t entirely sure, what we do know is that he won’t get too much bigger and that he’s 100% adorable. Pongo can be nervous in new situations or around unfamiliar people, but he’s been working so hard to overcome this. He even spent several weeks with our friends at stylek9dogtraining, where he learned amazing skills that will set him up for success. His future family will continue his journey with a few follow up classes, already covered in his adoption fee, because consistency is key for this sensitive boy. What makes Pongo amazing: Walks beautifully on leash, calmly and politely (even sitting at stops!) Crate trained & fully housebroken Snuggle king who always wants to be near his people Playful, smart, and food motivated, he learns fast! Loves doggy friends, is good with cats, and would thrive with or without another dog in the home Because of his nervous nature, Pongo would do best with older, dog savvy kids. A yard to run, play, and chase squirrels would be a dream for him. Ranger is vocal and loves to tell you about his day and then tell you again! He loves to be pet and looks at a gate as a challenge, not a barrier. He can be stubborn and defiant, so a strong Alpha owner is needed or he will take control. He is a powerful puller on leash, so a harness is best. He likes car rides and is crate trained. He is looking for a forever home that has some experience with the food motivated lab and stubborn mastiff. Due to his size and strength, older children are best. He has a great smile, and will show all his teeth when he is happy or nervous. He is up to date with his vaccines, flea and tick treated, microchipped, Heartworm negative and is neutered. His adoption fee is $500. You must be 21 years old to adopt and provide vet and personal references. An application to adopt him can be found on our website www.oxfordcountyanimalrescue.com. Click on Adopt, then Dogs for Adoption and scroll to the bottom of the page. All applications are reviewed, and if we feel you might be a good fit for him, you will be contacted to arrange a home visit as well as for permission to speak with your vet. Repeated phone calls and emails with not advance your application. We are a volunteer, foster based rescue and there is no opportunity to meet him before an application has been approved.
