Story
I am delighted to introduce Caleb a 9 month old Lab/Hound mix. Caleb came to our rescue from a local pound with a leg injury that has since healed. Caleb is a very handsome pup with very soft beige markings that don’t show up in his photos. He is currently 24 kilograms or 53 pounds and about full grown. He is an energetic and playful boy who requires a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. We go on multiple walks each day with a total of at least 6 km daily. Several times a week we go to local conservation areas for a 5 km hike and on those days we may reach 9 or 10 km in total. I believe Caleb would be a good candidate for agility training in the future once his basic obedience classes are finished. Best advice I was given is that a well behaved puppy is a tired puppy. Caleb no longer follows me as my shadow and is happy to relax on his own in another room while I’m busy elsewhere. He spends much of his time in the living room where he has taken over the couch as his favourite go to place. Caleb quickly learned the sit command and automatically sits to have his lead put on for our walks and also when we return home. We have an after walk routine which he loves. Once his leash is off he goes to the couch and wiggles himself silly until I come to give him tummy rubs which he loves. He can get excited and try to mouth me so I always have a toy for him to chew on instead. The sit command calms him down. Caleb enjoys snuggling in beside me on the couch. He thrives on affection and praise. When I go on my yoga mat for my practice Caleb thinks I’m fair game for play and will snuggle into my butt while I do leg lifts or drive me crazy with his squeaky toy trying to distract me and play with him. I have had several different people over to visit. Once Caleb greets them gently he curls up on the nearby couch or will lie under the card table with his head on one person’s feet and his butt on someone else. Most people are amazed to learn he’s still a puppy because he is so calm and gentle. He loves people and welcomes visitors. In the house Caleb is pretty good on the recall command . I have taken him on a 50 foot long line to a green space nearby so he can get in some running. His recall can be comical as he comes running full speed and doesn’t always stop in time. I have to do a quick side step so he doesn’t run into me. It’s a work in progress. Caleb loves being outdoors and he spends time on a 30 foot long line in my backyard since I don’t have a fenced in yard. He is content to observe, chew his toys and explore while I work in the garden nearby. In the morning when I open his crate Caleb does a big stretch and then waits for an all over body rub before heading to the kitchen for a treat puzzle and waits for me to get my shoes on to go for our first walk of the day. He is very patient and once he sees I’m ready he comes over to get his lead put on. At the writing of this bio Caleb has been with me for a few months and has made amazing progress. He is a very intelligent puppy who is quick to learn. I have trained Caleb on the gentle leader because of his size and strength, but he rarely pulls when walking unless he catches a scent he really wants to follow . I was expecting him to pull when he encountered bunnies, squirrels and chipmunks but he just stops and watches them until they disappear and then he continues on his walk. Caleb spotted a baby toad on the road one night and was fascinated. He gently nudged it with his nose and it did a little hop forward. Caleb continued this gentle play for several minutes before we resumed our walk. Caleb is a very social puppy who loves to meet both people and other dogs.. He is very gentle with these encounters and is a bit sad when I won’t let him meet everyone on our walks. He automatically sits patiently when others approach hoping I’ll let him meet. This is something he learned to do all by himself. Because he’s a big puppy he can seem a bit intimidating to little dogs so we usually meet at a 3 foot distance. Caleb recently met my neighbours 2 cats in a friendly manner. He has no problem with cars passing by but large trucks and the back up noise made by the garbage truck startled him. Caleb is being fostered in a small rural community with nearby green spaces for his walks. Caleb settles well in my suv on a tether. If there’s a passenger in the back seat he’ll snuggle into them looking for a treat. When I put the rear window wiper on it startled him and he barked at it. Caleb is highly food motivated. Unless he’s being rewarded for obedience training sessions he has to work for his treats. He was quick to solve a level 1 and 2 treat puzzle and I have had to go to a higher level to stimulate his brain. Caleb can be a counter surfer so all food needs to be kept out of his reach. He is a bottomless pit with a healthy appetite just like any growing puppy. During the day when it’s getting near meal time Caleb will sometimes sit and look longingly at the kitchen counter where his treat and kibble containers are kept hoping I’ll give in. Caleb drinks a lot and should have access to the outdoors for a bathroom break every 4 hours or so. He does hold for 8 hours overnight. Caleb likes his human to be home more than away. He rarely barks or whines unless I leave the house. He is crated when I leave the house and he will whine for a few minutes when I first leave and then remains quiet until my return. I have checked with my neighbours to verify this. Caleb may regress when he moves to his forever home but with patience and time it can be overcome. Because of this Caleb would not be suitable for an apartment or condo where he would disturb neighbours. Caleb goes into his crate willingly with a treat and sleeps quietly through the night. He will sometimes wander into his crate during the day to see if he’s left a treat behind. Caleb is a wonderful pup full of love, energy and a sweet gentle nature. He is looking for a home preferably with a fenced in yard where he can free play and run to work off his high energy. His family needs to be outdoor oriented and willing to spend the time walking and hiking that this puppy needs. He would be fine with older children, over 6yrs of age, who would enjoy teaching Caleb how to play fetch. Caleb shouldn’t be left on his own for a full workday and would benefit from someone who worked from home or a family with alternate schedules so someone is home more often. Caleb is looking for a family who has the time and energy to help this sweet puppy reach his full potential. If you’re that family please consider Caleb. He’s so worth it. **IF THIS LISTING IS STILL POSTED THIS DOG IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. NO NEED TO EMAIL ASKING IF THE DOG IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BIO THOROUGHLY AS INFORMATION ON HOW TO APPLY IS CONTAINED IN THIS LISTING** For Adoption: Tita! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. Tita is a sweet and loving 3mth old yellow Labrador Retriever/Golden Retriever mix puppy. Tita is a lover and a cuddler. Tita is very intelligent and loves to learn. Tita will most likely be the size of a larger retriever when full grown, approx. 65lbs. Tita has many retriever characteristics including the sad looking puppy dog eyes. Tita is still working on her confidence when meeting new people but does not take long to warm up and enjoy all the love. Tita does love adventures and car rides and is ready for anything and that includes finding her perfect forever family! Tita had a rough start to life as a discarded puppy mill pup. Luckily, she came into Pound Dog Rescue so we could help this special girl find her furever home. Tita came into rescue with her brother which is how she landed the name Tita. Tita is Hawaiian for sister. This sweet girl has lots of energy and puppy antics. She is smart, food motivated and takes gentle corrections well. She lives with another dog in the foster home. Tita enjoys playing with her people and the other dog. She does get a bit bossy sometimes with her doggie foster sibling so would need a dog who is very easy going and would let her steal toys and try to snuggle up to them without reacting should their be another dog in the home. This other dog would need to be a calm and well socialized male dog as Tita will not be suitable with another female dog in the home. Tita would also be very happy to be the only dog in the house getting all her people’s attention. Tita absolutely loves running around in the backyard and smelling all the smells, so she hopes her furever home has a backyard. Though she is a puppy now, she will grow into being a dog that needs adequate exercise and stimulation. She also loves being a part of everything that goes on in the house and wants to be where her people are. Tita continues to work on her confidence but takes well to training. Anyone who loves training obedience skills and teach advanced skills would have a lot of fun with this pup. Although she is not a suitable puppy for first time dog owners, she will be a fantastic dog in the hands of those who are confident dog handlers/trainers. She is very smart and very motivated to learn. We are looking for her forever family to be committed to advanced dog training classes and doing more with her than just the basics. This puppy has huge potential and we want her to live to her full potential. Tita is still learning it’s okay to be alone. She does not love it but is working on self-soothing. This is common in puppies and teaching them to be ok alone, to self soothe, is an important life lesson for all pups. Her crate training is going well, and she is making great strides, but she does use her voice to let you know she is not happy to be in the crate initially. This pup does not want to miss out on any fun! Tita is fed in her crate, so she is learning it is not such a bad place to be but is still vocal about it. For this reason Tita is not a dog that can live in an apartment or condo and needs a detached home. At night, she is good in her crate with just a bit of half-hearted whining for the first few minutes. She is crated in our room at night and this goes well and she sleeps all night long. She needs her new family to continue with the crate training and give her time alone every day during the day so she can grow in confidence being alone. If her new family has a work from home person then there will need to be a place for Tita to be crated during work time where her barking in the crate won’t interfere with work. Puppies need 100% of your supervision when not in their crates; you cannot expect to work and have Tita running around in the room with you as she won’t have your full attention. As she matures she will settle into a good crating schedule, but this is new for her now and she is still learning. Tita likes to play with toys but when she gets tired she does enjoy cuddle time with her people. She likes to sit on the floor next to us and have a nap. She loves affection and being told she is a good girl, but she isn’t a dog that is constantly pestering for attention. She is nicely independent where she can play with toys in her dog bed and entertain herself too. Please know that while this cutie has a great balance of rest and sleep now, she will require plenty of exercise and stimulation during the day as she grows to get all her fun puppy energy out and keep her mind engaged. Currently she goes out quite regularly throughout the day for a bathroom break and exercise in the backyard. At this age she can only hold it in her crate for a few hours so she does need her people to have a schedule that can accommodate a puppy schedule. Puppies need to be taken outside for bathroom breaks very regularly when they are small and will not be able to hold it for an 8hr work day. We are also looking for families that are fully aware of the time commitment of a puppy and the work involved. Puppies are a total joy and bring so much love and happiness into a home, but you cannot underestimate the work and time involved in raising a puppy properly. They need constant supervision while young to expedite the house training stage and to ensure they aren’t chewing on anything inappropriate. Tita’s leash training is going well. Being a puppy, she is still easily distracted so with a gentle distraction and some encouraging words, she is back on her way again. Tita is a very smart girl and advanced training will help this wonderful pup continue to flourish and engage her mind so her new family needs to be committed to ensuring that she can get these chances and be set up for success. Tita’s house training is going well, and she will always do her business when you take her outside. However, if she is playing in the house, she needs to be watched as she doesn’t know how to tell you it is time to take a bathroom break. Supervision and many trips outside are key to successful housetraining. Since Tita is a puppy, she needs a family with children 10 years of age or older who can handle puppy antics, be careful to close doors, understand that sometimes hands look like toys when playing, and who can be gentle with her and handle her appropriately. Tita will be overwhelmed with children younger as she is still working on being a confident puppy. As with all puppies her age she can be nippy and jumpy and she can get easily over excited so living with younger children will not be suitable for this puppy. Tita has not had any exposure to cats or other small pets but will surely be fine once trained to interact politely with them. Tita has so much to offer her furever family! She is such a special and wonderful girl, and her foster family wants the best for her. She is an adorable puppy and is going to be a very beautiful dog who is sure to get a lot of attention with her stunning looks and beautiful coat.. We are looking for her perfect fit though so please use the spaces provided on the application to tell us all about you and why Tita would be the perfect fit for you!! Story
Rocky is one of the smaller male pups from a litter of 10. He is a challenging pup who pushes every limit he can! He will need a firm, patient owner who sets boundaries and stand by them. Like his brothers, he is a typical little boy who loves to run and chase and wrestle until it's time to eat. He will be a large dog, as both mom and dad are over 75 pounds. He is looking for a forever home that has some experience with the food motivated lab and stubborn mastiff. It is recommended that he attend a puppy socialization class to become comfortable with friends who are not his siblings. He will be visiting the vet this week for his vaccines, flea and tick treatment, microchip, and wellness screening. He will come with a voucher for his neuter at 6 months of age at our vet in Woodstock. His adoption fee is $500. You must be 21 years old to adopt and provide vet and personal references. An application to adopt him can be found on our website www.oxfordcountyanimalrescue.com. Click on Adopt, then Dogs for Adoption and scroll to the bottom of the page. All applications are reviewed, and if we feel you might be a good fit for him, you will be contacted to arrange a home visit as well as for permission to speak with your vet. Repeated phone calls and emails with not advance your application. We are a volunteer, foster based rescue and there is no opportunity to meet him before an application has been approved. We thankyou for respecting these guidelines.

Story
MORE PHOTOS/VIDEOS: https://www.facebook.com/TLCRR https://www.instagram.com/taffyslegacycaninerescue taffyslegacy.com/selma Selma was pulled from a list of dogs who were going to be euthanized. We know she is a tough case based on how fearful she is, however we had the room to give her a chance and so far, she’s exceeded all of our expectations. We hope that with training and time we can help her find balance in her scared little brain and see that people really aren’t so bad. First impressions: Strangers: Extremely timid with people, we pulled this girl knowing full and well that she will take a couple months of training and rehabilitation to become adoptable. At present she is very fearful, shies away and will not approach new people she does not know. Dogs: Loves ALL dogs. Selma is very dog social and will match the play style of her friends. She is currently living in our Kennel, where she gets to go out to Doggie Daycare multiple times a week to spend time with many of her friends. When the play gets too intense, she becomes submissive and rolls on her back, so she makes the perfect playmate for many dogs. Cats: Unsure with cats, we will test her once she settles in. She is however quite prey driven towards the resident chickens, noteworthy, but this does not necessarily mean she couldn't live with cats. Kids: Though we have not tested her with children we feel that based on her timid-ness she'd do best in an adult only home with another canine companion who is confident to show her the ropes, this could change after spending some time in care. Crate: Selma is clean in her kennel and goes in and although the first few days she was apprehensive going out, she has no hesitation going back in, she seems to like her kennel! Leash: Clearly has minimal or no leash experience and acts semi-feral on leash. She panics, tries to get away and gator rolls when leashed. This is currently being worked on. Car Skills: Thus far, she has shown to be quiet in her crate. Energy Level: Medium to high energy, runs like the wind outside, but settles quickly in her kennel. Confidence: Very unsure, will need consistent training and positive reinforcement to build her up. Affection: With the people she trusts she will lean into you and then flop over for belly rubs, but does take time to build this trust. Resources: Has not shown any issues with people or other dogs thus far. Training: very food motivated, takes food a little rough, but is eager to train. Behavioural: Even though Selma was the equivalent of semi-feral when leashed at the shelter, she showed no indication of wanting to bite. Given her level of fear, this was reason enough to give her a chance. Behaviourally, she will need work on building confidence and counterconditioning her aversion to the leash (which admittedly has already improved leaps and bounds). Best traits: absolutely adorable, great with all dogs, clean in her kennel, food motivated and eager to train. Needs improvement: Positive introductions to the leash and building confidence with humans. Selma is in perfect health! She currently has her spay appointment scheduled for the end of Nov 2023, and has one more booster shot left to be completed. Otherwise, she is up to date on her vetting. **She has not yet been heartworm tested** ADOPTION PROCESS: taffyslegacy.com/adoption-process
