Story
MEET BROWNIE! Brownie has been enjoying the safety and care for some time now at the home of the founder of ADR.org here on Orcas Island, WA -but in confidence, he told me recently why there is no home for him – yet. He would really like to have his own home with HIS Human{s). So, what are you waiting for- I know YOU are out there! I am a neutered Lab/ American Staffordshire mix, and about 7-8 yrs. old. As weight I will bring 48lbs to the scale. I am up to date with vaccinations, healthy, neutered, and microchipped. I do not have health issues. I have been living and interacting with other dogs (males and females), and I am used to be around cats, but if I could choose my best next friend then I think a playful and energetic female would hit my spot. My personality is shy and reluctant but an active female who runs the show – I think I can fall for that idea! :) I came from an abusive home where I was reprimanded already as a young dog or puppy - physically and was yelled at a lot - and from an early age on. Fear is still on my side. Hence still now sometimes it can happen that I fall into the fear/flee mood when a situation that I am going through now reminds me of my earlier years. As a puppy I was kept mostly in a dark shed, when the door opened - I just ran out. But then, when it got scary for me, I ran back into that dark place just to feel safe again. What effect is has on me still, you might ask...well, where I have been living now here, I feel comfortable so I would find my way back home. On the other hand, if I ran away though in an area that I do not know, I would feel lost and I would not find a home by myself. I would not react to anyone calling my name and searching for me- I would hide and eventually not survive. I do not ask for a lot of exercise and hour-long walks, but frequent walks would be nice, and a solid fenced yard where I can see the other side of the fence would be nice, too. I am not a city dog, nor a high-rise apartment dog. If you need to know more stories about me, and background info or videos, the founder of ADR.org would be so happy to share those with you on request. If you are interested, PLEASE send an email to: ADR@animaldefenserescue.org (this is the email address) so that the founder of ADR.org can connect with you via a phone call. Story
Meet YUMI - a 4month old female adorable Terrier, Lab/Kelpie mix! Yumi and her siblings were originally spotted by a trapper (that ADR.org works with) around June 8th around San Bernardino County, CA. At the beginning YUMI (name given by ADR.org) had three siblings but only YUMI made it out there with her mom PERLA (posted as well) . They could be trapped and safely brought to the LA vet. Just like her mom, she witnessed how one of her siblings was killed on the road in front of them and two sibblings were stolen by a person in front of their eyes. At the end of June, Yumi and her mom Perla arrived on Orcas Island, WA and are now living with Founder of ADR.org until a matching and loving home is found that deserves YUMI, and will provide for the rest of her life a safe, caring and committed home. Of course, she is still a puppy and behaves as such BUT her personality comes increasingly shining through, and she needs to cut the ties with her mom to GROW in her own personality by making her own experiences and - ideally- with another dog in the household. On OI she is learning the basics such as having a good recall hearing her name, some commands as SIT but most important, some early socialization. “Come” may be the most valuable command to teach YUMI because it could realistically save her life. A puppy's curiosity can often draw them towards life-threatening situations - during these situations you want to trust that YUMI will respond to your voice more than anything else. It would then be your task to continue with this process. YUMI is very smart, obedient and learns quickly based on reactions she gets from a person and equally from the rest of the dogs. Her learning curve is steep, and she absorbs it very well. And then...yes...then there is the most liked activity: romping with other dogs, playing with her toys, and "getting into trouble.” YUMI is a very bubbly little girl- but very obedient and a fast learner and still working on Potty training. But we are getting there! ADR.org would like to see YUMI in a home with another dog and a fenced yard. She will not be getting the stimulation and enrichment she needs as a puppy in an apartment complex by herself. YUMI is still working on Potty training. But we are getting there - after all she holds it through the night already and during the day, she alerts you with a high pitch bark that she needs to go.! YUMI is crate trained and fully accepts her night sleep in the crate as well as some "Time-Out" during the day. YUMI is spayed, microchipped and has all her necessary vaccinations until July 2024, incl., Distemper/Parvo, Leptospirosis and Rabies So, if you think that you would like to give YUMI the home that she deserves, please send an email to ADR@animaldefenserescue.org and send photos and tell us a little bit about yourself. ADR.org would like to talk to you first before sending you an application. YUMI looks forward to getting mail from you. WOOFLY yours, July 27, 2023

Story
Lucio is very eager to meet his new family! This handsome boy has been a frequent flyer at the BCSPCA, and unfortunately his previous owner had to make the decision that they could no longer properly care for him. This last time Lucio arrived in our care he had really irritated skin due to a severe flea allergy. His flea allergy is under control with proper flea treatment.Lucio is a very happy boy and loves everybody he meets. This doesn't quite seem to be the same with other dogs. Lucio can be reactive to other dogs through fences, this may be a barrier issue, but he will need slow leash introductions to any future doggy friends. Recently he has gone for a walk with our long term resident dog Bea, and he did great walking next to her.We are unsure how he is with cats, and we believe he would do well in a home with older children, as he is such a typical happy wiggly lab.Thank you for your interest in adopting! Do you think you could be Lucio's person? Apply today!https://spca.bc.ca/survey/dog-adoption-application-victoria/Visit the BC SPCA Victoria Center to potentially view this pet and apply to adopt in person; ORSubmit an online application and staff will contact the first suitable adopter to set-up a visit.*Kindly note that due to the high number of applications, we will only be contacting potential matches to further review their interest. The Victoria Center is open for in-person adoption viewings Tuesday - Saturday, 12pm - 4pm. *Staff and animal well-being permitting!*Animals cannot be held for potential adopters for more than 24 hours without a legitimate reason. Story
Meet Nala, your dog’s companion with a gentle soul. With her beautiful coat, soulful eyes, and a touch of shyness, Nala is a captivating girl that quickly captures the hearts of those fortunate enough to spend time with her. If you've been looking for a little lady who THRIVES with other dogs you have found her. Nala's greatest passion lies in water. This little girl will swim from sun up to sun down if you let her! She doesn't need adventures to enjoy herself just a pool or a pond in the back yard and she is in heaven. Nala is an amazing dog and would be perfect for a calm home that needs a sweet dog! She loves to run with her pack and splash with the fishies and - most of all - would love to sit next to you while you work. She blends in quite well to whatever routine you already have going. Nala is house trained, and crate trained. She is a quiet, calm and confident dog around other dogs - not food aggressive at all and very little barking. Nala is looking for a home where she can be a sister to another dog. She is great in a  pack! She has found that she really loves running around in the yard chasing and being chased. She would also love to be pampered, cuddled, and have some fun with a sibling.  In the eveniings, Nala is a great couch potato and lap sitter. If you're lucky enough to welcome Nala into your home, her presence will undoubtedly bring a unique and enchanting energy to your family. While she may be shy and timid with people, her bond with your dog will flourish, creating a lasting friendship that will enrich both their lives. Nala is a special canine soul who embraces her love for water, making her the perfect best friend for your furry companion.! Nala does NOT need lots of exercise or daily walks. She would prefer to stay home and hang in the backyard. She has lived with BIG and little dogs and kids!! She makes a great do to integrate into your home. She prefers dogs over people and doesn't need to go out in public or need lots of attention. Statistics show that there are over 1 million homeless animals in this region alone. Three Little Pitties Rescue is a nonprofit dog and cat rescue that partners with the community to make a difference. Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and saving all breeds of dogs and cats from the streets or animal shelters that oftentimes have no other option but to euthanize animals for space. This dog you’ve found online is lucky to be in our program, and even luckier to have you notice it! Three Little Pitties wants to set you and your new pet up for success! We know our dogs and we work hard to prepare them socially for adoption. We are a network of dedicated people who are heavily invested in seeing our animals thrive. From the moment they are accepted into our program, our Intake, Behavior & Medical teams prepare them for adoption by properly vetting, behaviorally assessing, and providing customized plans depending on the dog’s needs. We provide weekly socialization programs for our dogs through playgroups and group leash training classes available to all dogs in our adoption program, and Doggy Sleepover, Doggy Day Out, and Ambassador programs for our boarding dogs. There is a professional dog trainer on staff to provide support for our fosters and dogs, and an off-site dog trainer for dogs that need more extensive behavior modification. This helps us learn deeply about every dog, prepare them for adoption, and ultimately match them with loving families. We seek to adopt to families who understand that these are rescue dogs and will require continued training efforts, but will be well on their way to being the best dogs that they can be! It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these special perks: • 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion (must register within 24 hours of first vet appt.) • A free private online dog training session with GoodPup plus low pricing for future sessions (approx $25 weekly for an 8 week course of one session per week) • One free bonus toy in every BarkBox when signing up for their Super Chewer subscription plan • 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a PNW based, organic fresh dog food loaf meal subscription plan • Coupons for a fun visit to Petco • Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup!
