Story
Marshall is being fostered in NC. Hello, my name is Marshall! Let me tell you a little about me. I was found as a stray, but BDRA saved me from being put down by the shelter. My vet thinks I'm about 8-9 years old but I'm still in great health aside from being blind. Even though I'm blind I learn very quickly. I could map your house in no time. I'm a little shy at first, but once I know you aren't going to hurt me, I will warm right up. I'm almost completely house-trained. I get scared and anxious when my humans leave the house because it can be scary being blind. I feel much safer when you put me in my crate when you have to leave or during the night. I sure hope my forever home has fur brothers or sisters. I LOVE my foster dog brothers and follow them everywhere. They are much smaller than me (10 lbs), so I make sure I'm extra gentle with them. I even have a foster handicapped kitty sister. I am fascinated by her and like to follow her as well. I make sure I'm gentle with her too. One time I even let her steal a few bites from my bowl while I was eating my dinner. My tail wags fast when I'm around her or my doggy foster brothers because they make me so happy. I'm still trying to figure out furniture so I prefer to stay on the ground instead of getting on the couch or in bed. I love having a memory foam dog bed. I take lots of naps, but I love going on walks. My humans taught me the word "careful" to warn me if I'm about to run into something. I'm still learning to "sit." The vet really likes me. She and the other staff tell me what a sweet and calm boy I am. I'm excited to meet my forever family and fur brothers or sisters. I sure hope you pick me. I'll make you happy with my sweet and calm personality. I look forward to meeting you soon! Update 3/23/23 Marshall is a wonderful dog! Recently we took him to a playgroup that required a 4-hour evaluation with a trainer. I was so excited when they said he was so well-behaved and adaptable with all of the other animals that he was marked as "green," meaning he gets a "free pass" to be part of any playgroup he wants (large dog, small dog, hyper dog, calm dogs, senior dogs). They said had I not informed them he was blind that they would never have guessed it with how well he navigates spaces and his attentiveness to the other animals. Also, our neighbor names Marshall their "manny" due to how gentle and patient he is when he visits. When it comes to people, Marshall is a shy boy at first, but once he settles in, he is so gentle and loving. When it comes to other animals, Marshall warms up instantly! He's tested with cats and dogs of all sizes and does well with all of them. He currently lives with 2 small dogs and a handicapped kitty (that adores him). He doesn't bark, which is nice. This is key to note because my current dogs are barkers, and he does not pick up on their bad behavior. Very rarely will he give a howl or two, but if he howls, then there is definitely a reason because of how rarely he has done it. It's kinda cute actually. He does not get up on the furniture (i think it makes him uncomfortable), but he loves to be by your side. I call him my "happy boy" because he literally walks around the house wagging his tail all day. He never lets anything phase him. If you want a sweet companion (and an added bonus that works well with cats and dogs), then he is your guy! Check out his video, you'll see what I mean! BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately

Story
Mike and Missy are an extremely well bonded brother and sister and every effort will be made to keep them together. They do most things together and follow each other’s lead but have pretty different personalities. Mike is more of an explorer and is more energetic in the house and the yard. Missy acts older and is more likely to stay closer to you unless something grabs her attention. Both are obsessed with hunting squirrels and chipmunks and they spend most of their time outside pursuing rodents, sometimes digging if they can smell them close. They have no experience with cats or other animals in the house.   They settle down well in the house and will look out the windows or rest regardless of whether their human is there or not. They are used to having access to the whole house during the day and have not had accidents, but the foster has not left them alone for more than 5 hours at a time. They should be OK for longer. They have little desire to steal food from a plate or counter or get into anything food related.   They are content with a big fenced-in backyard and have made no attempts to get past a 4’ high fence. They have little recall, especially if they are chasing something, and will run and explore without coming back. E-collars on vibrate have been used with mixed results. They are somewhat responsive to come when they are just sniffing and not otherwise occupied. They will sit to get a treat. They do like going for walks and do not have much experience on leashes but have gotten slightly better at staying near the sidewalk. They are good with other dogs and love people and have been to the dog park several times without issues, other than trying to get them to leave!   They will bark at things they can’t get to - through the window, other side of the fence, squirrels in trees - and will usually respond to stop. Barking is not excessive or problematic. Leave it and down/off are usually effective as well.   Neither have any noticeable health issues. They love to snuggle when it is time for bed and sleep in the bed at night or on the couch during the day. Mike will sleep on a dog bed occasionally if it is in the same room. Neither plays with toys/fetches but Missy will pick one up occasionally.    The ideal situation for them would be a home with a fenced in yard and owners of any age, with or without children, that have some flexibility to be with them, or at least check on them during the day. They are very sweet and good dogs and will be great companions to just about anyone. ##1705645##
