MEET BRONCO…. This handsome, 15 lb, tricolored, 4 year old Lhasa/Shih Tzu/Poodle is a wonderful combination of sweetness and opinions! He has been through a lot and has become a really great dog, with a few quirks, that any seasoned, patient and loving dog person should be able to handle!
Bronco was dumped in the shelter after a bite incident in his former home. We don’t know how this happened, but we know that he doesn’t like being heavy handled and he does have fear aggression. Since this incident, we opted to take Bronco to training to desensitize any negative behavior. He was evaluated and has this issue with strangers. Once he respects you, and it does take a lot of patience and parameters, he is a great, basically normal dog. As you can tell by the video, Bronco can be a very playful, happy dog. He just needs to recognize you as his leader. He should go to a home without kids and a savvy/experienced family who have dealt with “opinionated” dogs. I can say that he is a wonderful dog and very loving and obedient once he knows the rules! He is NOT a dog for everyone — but we have set him up to succeed. And he is very smart, probably a little too smart for his own britches. He is now easy to groom, loves to play with other smaller dogs….gives kisses and is truly a special boy!
Bronco needs a home that will give him parameters and love him to life. With guidance (and he comes with a trainer) he will be that dog you are looking for. Plays like a maniac with toys and even fetches (but good luck getting the toy out of his mouth! he has very strong teeth!!) … follows you everywhere and will prove you’re a good cook! He eats like it’s the first time he’s seen food — blink, it’s gone! Before training, he pulled on the leash and was easily distracted by buses and trucks on the street. He has learned how to be a gentleman on walks, takes treats “gently” and minds the rules you set for him!! If you scold him, he will give you side eye for a moment and wait to hear “ok, now good boy” and he’s over it.
Bronco sits quietly while you work (or squeaking a toy to remind you he is there)! If you are not at home and you are in an apartment/condo, he will bark voraciously when anyone walks by, but then he is quiet again. He also responds to “leave it” and will be quiet. He does NOT have separation anxiety and gets along great with other dogs once introduced. To keep him healthy — Bronco really needs a 2 mile walk daily and exercised to get his playfulness in check!
Bronco could be an only dog if his people work from home and he isn’t alone much. His potty training skills are good — but no guarantees. All in all…Bronco is a stallion! We love him and will only let him go to the perfect, experienced home — for him and for you!! Interested? He is obsessed with his present foster, which only means he could be obsessed with you! Bronco will not be attending our adoption events; he can be seen by appointment only by approved applicants. We love this dog, he just needs a chance…and a yard, lots of toys and a family with big hearts!

Lhasa Happy Homes will be now holding our adoption events the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month on Main Street in Santa Monica (check calendar link below for special events and directions). Our event is located at 2116 Main Street, in Santa Monica, CA. Here you will have an opportunity to interact with the dogs and see which might be a perfect fit with your household. Main Street is famous for its innovative shops and is close to the beach! Make a day of it!! Metered parking on the street and free parking on 4th and Bicknell Streets.
Here you will have an opportunity to interact with the dogs and see which might be a perfect fit with your household....and do some fantastic shopping at the same time! Please do call us if you are coming to see a particular dog to make sure he/she will be at adoptions (we do not bring sick dogs to our adoption events). Please bring pictures or video of your home and yard if we have not done a home check (preferred)! Most importantly, if you have a dog, make sure you bring him or her to do a compatibility match with the dog you are interested in adopting!
