This lovely charcoal/white, 16 lb, 4 yr old, Lhasa X came to LHH pretty shut down. Jewel had clearly been a baby maker and came into the shelter with three other dogs confiscated from a backyard breeder 🙁 A neighbor called Animal Control in Moreno Valley and complained about the neglect they were getting and they all headed to the shelter. We were told about her and immediately said “yes, please.” Jewel had never had a collar on, never walked on a leash and she can be stubborn!! Like loading her into the car or showing her something of a new experience. Once she had her makeover (shelter had shaved her matted coat), a few “forced” trips up/down the stairs and the street and now (most of the time) she loves to walk and strut down the boardwalk! This darling girl had never experienced a belly rub before and now she loves and asks for them! She happily greets us and loves going for walks and dinnertime! Once she knows and trusts you…Jewel will bond quickly. She loves to be near you and will come up on the couch and get as close to you as she can! While she doesn’t have separation anxiety, she would rather be with you and/or another dog than be alone. We haven’t seen her “play” but she enjoys company — human and canine. She is new so she is still blossoming and we’re excited to see her bloom. Jewel seems to be potty trained or will go on a pp pad, but no guarantees at your house. She is very quiet, just starting to give gentle kisses and when she looks at you with those human eyes, you will want to give her anything she wants. (respectively) Caitlyn and Cameron are 18/22 lbs, both 2 yrs old, tan/black Lhasa/Shih Tzu and Lhasa X — likely litter mates. When we get dogs like these two, it reminds me why I fell in love with the breed. Not only are they gorgeous, but they are so smart and have so much personality! We were called and told that a Good Samaritan found them huddled in an alley together and was taking them to the Orange County Shelter to locate their owners. Yes, they were a mess. No they didn’t walk on a leash until they came to us, but they are so loving and happy, we are thrilled that they are here. It was difficult getting individual pictures of them because they are always together, on top of each other and/or playing. They even do their business in unison!! They love to cuddle with each other and you — they give lots of kisses and just reek of puppy love! Initially, they were very fearful and reluctant to meet anyone, but not an ounce of aggression. It takes a minute for them to warm up, but it is so understandable. They have only been here a short time and they are already overwhelming their foster with affection and love. As every day passes, they get more and more rambunctious. Definitely need an active family to love these two to life. The ideal home for Caitlyn and Cameron would be one where there are kids over 8 yrs, a yard and dog parents who are able to spend time and train them. They seem to be potty trained, but no guarantees at your house. They have been extremely quiet, but they just recently arrived. They are learning what toys are…all the writer of their profile can say is they are VERY SPECIAL and will only go home together, so please don’t ask us to split them up. Our website is updated daily. THANKS FOR YOUR ATTENTION AND CONSIDERATION MEET APOLLO…..a stunning, 7 yr old (DOB October, 2018), 15 lb, tan, Lhasa Apso X, who was given up because his family lost their housing during government shut down and were evicted! They provided all positive info about him, and it’s clear they loved him dearly. However, he was purchased at a pet store as a “mini Shih Tzu.” WRONG!!! This boy may not be 100% Lhasa (we never promote as purebred ), but he looks more like a Lhasa than a Shih Tzu and isn’t a “mini” — he’s just the right size. Apollo was shut down when he arrived; but now, when we come home, he gets really excited and circles to express his glee! He came with a horrible case of kennel cough (for 3 weeks) and a double eye infection. He took his meds like a champ, but he did not enjoy drops put in his eyes because they sting and he let us know! But, for that reason we think he would be better off in an adult home. He was great with the ointment and he’s now better, but he does have slight dry eye and will need daily ointment. He gives gentle kisses to let you know he loves you anyway! If you put him in your arms and love him….he’s all yours. We believe a family who understands the Lhasa personality will adore Apollo, who is a lover, not a fighter! Apollo is a good eater! He loves to be loved and really needs extra TLC right now. Seems to be potty trained, but we never guarantee. At our house Apollo was great with other dogs and loves to play. The ideal home for him would either be a calm but active environment where he gets oodles of attention (doesn’t like being left alone) or one with another single dog (maybe female) he can bond with. This handsome, 15 lb, tricolored, 4 year old Lhasa/Shih Tzu/Poodle mix is a wonderful combination of sweetness and opinions! We are working with 4 Paws Kiddo Rescue to make sure he gets the ideal home. We have had Bronco for some time now, as he needs a home that will love him to life….he has a few quirks easily workable if you set him up from the start. He comes with a trainer to help whomever adopts him do that right! Bronco was dumped in the shelter after a bite incident in his former home. We don’t know how this happened, but we know that he doesn’t like being heavy handled. Since this incident, we have opted to take Bronco to training to desensitize any negative behavior. He was evaluated and has fear aggression with strangers. Once he respects you, he is a wonderful dog. As you can tell by the video, Bronco can be a very loving, happy dog. He just needs to respect you as his leader. He should go to a home without kids and a savvy/experienced family who have dealt with “opinionated” dogs. I can say that he is a wonderful dog and very loving and obedient once he knows the rules! And he is very smart. Bronco needs a home that will give him parameters and love him to life. With guidance (and he comes with a trainer) he will be that dog you are looking for. Plays like a maniac with toys and even fetches … follows you everywhere and will prove you’re a good cook! He eats like it’s the first time he’s seen food — blink, it’s gone! Before training, he pulled on the leash and was easily distracted by buses and trucks on the street. He has learned how to be a gentleman on walks, takes treats “gently” and minds the rules you set for him!! If you scold him, he will give you side eye for a moment and wait to hear “ok, now good boy” and he’s over it. Bronco sits quietly while you work (or squeaking a toy to remind you he is there)! If you are not at home and you are in an apartment/condo, he will bark voraciously when anyone walks by, but then he is quiet again. He also responds to “leave it” and will be quiet. He does NOT have separation anxiety and gets along great with other dogs once introduced. To keep him healthy — Bronco really needs a 2 mile walk daily or exercised to get his playfulness in check! Bronco could be an only dog if his people work from home and he isn’t alone much. His potty training skills are good — but no guarantees. All in all…Bronco is a stallion! We love him and will only let him go to the perfect, experienced home — for him and for you!! Interested? He’s the best. This spectacular 16 lb, pure white, 1.5-2 yr old Lhasa Apso Mix is a charmer! We were going to take a different dog from Moreno Valley, a Shih Tzu who had some medical issues, but he didn’t get along with other dogs so they asked us to take Oggie. One bad haircut can change the look of the dog dramatically. Photo 4 is Oggie before his makeover. We didn’t realize that Oggie was still a puppy, with all the energy and activity a puppy has, until we got him home! He was a perfect gentleman taking pictures and listens really well. He gives kisses, rides well in the car, great eater and LOVES to play with other dogs (should have one of his own!). Oggie does have a bit of separation anxiety, so apartment or condo living would not suit him as he will bark when you leave…but he does quiet down! When he arrived, he marked EVERYTHING but hasn’t continued that behavior since — but no guarantees at your house. He is great on a leash for the most part, walks very nicely and likes to meet and greet others with a great disposition. We'd love Oggie to go to a home with another dog, an active family (kids 10+ only, please) who will take him when they go places OK for dogs, play and train him to be the best pup he can be. We don’t believe he would be appropriate for a mature home 🙂 He’s is one in a million… So don’t take a chance….if you are interested, let us know. Our website is updated daily. When he arrived, matted to the bone, it was clear he’d never worn a collar, never walked on a leash and was very insecure. Only here a short time, we discovered he’s very smart and wants to please! This gentleman is the kind of pup who bonds to his people quickly and hard! He absolutely lights up when you walk through the door and will greet you with pure joy literally jumping up and down with glee! He has a happy spirit and loves to have fun — whether it’s playing with his toys, fetching a ball (and actually bringing it back) or “running” on leash during your walk, he’s always up for keeping the action going! Zeke thrives outdoors and would be happiest in a home where there is a yard where he can get plenty of exercise and fresh air. He is a testament to how far a rescue dog can come in a short period of time with direction, love and affection….but patience is also a virtue! Zeke is wonderful with other dogs, great with kids and friendly with adults — an all-around easy companion. He will jump up on you when he is excited and gives you lots and lots of kisses to let you know you have made his day! And when the energy winds down, Zeke is a true lap dog. He adores belly rubs, staying close and soaking up all the affection he can get. If he can find the space, he will jump up on your bed/couch/chair and lean into you or on top of you to let you know he’s there! He does have a few bad habits we are breaking him of….he loves garbage, so keep it out of the way! While he will love going everywhere with you — including restaurant outings, sports events with the kids, and just a Sunday at the beach….initially he does get a little nervous in the car. With patience and reassurance, he continues to build confidence and loves the ride. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate, playful companion who will be just as happy running by your side as he is curled up in your lap, Zeke might just be your perfect match.
