Pastel is a senior maltipoo mix around 11 years old. He's a little timid at first. He seems to trust the instincts of other dogs to tell who's a good human. Pastel is looking for his forever home with a family that can take it slow at first. He's so gentle and loves to snuggle other dogs. Story
There's nothing quite like young dog sweetness. These gorgeous pups are so pure and vulnerable with their whole lives lying in front of them, that it's unbearable to think of them in a scary high-kill shelter with euthanasia a possibility due to lack of space. Scout is a sweet as can be 1 year old, 13 lb Miniature Poodle / Maltese mix who is just waiting to be the love of someone's life. Farfel's can't swear to the accuracy of his breed mix as no DNA test was done. It was the opinion of New Mexico veterinarians and we're going to stay with their educated guess. Scout is a bit shy, but a very sweet little guy! His foster had the following to say about him: "Scout started off super shy, but has warmed up and come so far! He was very scared at the shelter, which is understandable. Since settling into my home, he's warmed up and totally come out of his shell. He sleeps under my desk while I work. He likes small squeaky toys. He LOVES dog beds! Walks are still a bit scary for him, and something he definitely isn't used to. So he will need some time and patience as he learns how to walk on a leash and that walks aren't so scary! A home with a yard would be ideal for him, so he can have the yard and not need walks until he is more comfortable. He is still warming up and unsure about pets sometimes, but he is learning that we are safe! He does well with other dogs, and a home with another small, confident dog to show him the ropes would really be good for him! He is food motivated and spray cheese is the way to his heart. He is a sweet boy who just needs a little time to realize you are safe and he is a lover!" Scout's non-shedding coat was filthy and matted when he arrived at the shelter. This necessitated a shave down to the skin. Scout couldn't have been happier with his new freedom from deep mattes that finally allowed him to move freely and without pain. Scout was not only groomed but surgery was also performed to remove his eye. When he arrived at the shelter, his left eye was bulging out and didn't make it. He now feels so much better and can still see great with his right eye! S This sweet guy, with a gorgeous shed-free coat (excellent for those with allergy concerns ) will require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming and excellent nutrition. Current research is very clear that the best diet we can provide for our pets is a fresh, human grade natural diet. Farfel's recommends Chi Diet (chidog.com) due to our personal experience with our own dogs. It's one of the most important choices we make for our dogs great health and longevity. Since Scout is just a young guy, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome and loving best friend. Scout will form firm bonds with his family and learn socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free Obedience Classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a young dog's ultimate behavior and in his relationship / bonding with his people. It does take time and commitment, yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior. Farfel's Rescue feels very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free training classes. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Scout out to a home that doesn't choose to offer him this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved virtual and in-person positive reinforcement / force-free trainers in your area. Farfel's is open to Scout finding his forever home with a retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a silly and super-smart young dog. A younger family that works from a home-based office would also be a great choice for a pup that would love nothing more than getting loved up periodically throughout the day. Because Scout is a bit unsure and learning to trust, though he is a sweet boy, we know that he would be too overwhelmed in a home with kids. Scout will be up to date on his vetting / vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. He has also been neutered to support Farfel's commitment to a euthanasia - free future in the canine population. Applications are currently being accepted for this sweet as can be pup. An adoption application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Scout, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
