Duke wasn’t the kind of dog who ever expected his world to change. He was loyal, steady, and happiest when lying at his owner’s feet, soaking up every gentle pat and quiet moment they shared. But when his owner became very sick, everything shifted. The house grew quieter. The routines faded. And one day, Duke was brought to the shelter — not because he wasn’t loved, but because his person could no longer care for him. At first, Duke didn’t understand. He waited by the kennel door, ears perked every time footsteps passed. He wasn’t sad so much as confused, trying to make sense of a world that suddenly felt too big. But the staff quickly learned something important about Duke: beneath his worried eyes is a heart overflowing with love. He leans into every gentle touch. He wags his tail when someone speaks softly. He watches people with a hopeful spark, as if he’s searching for the next person he’ll give his whole heart to. Duke isn’t starting over because he was unwanted — he’s starting over because someone loved him enough to make sure he’d be safe. Now he’s waiting for a new family who will give him the same devotion he’s always given so freely. And when that family finds him, Duke will be ready — tail wagging, heart open, eager to begin again.

Someone dumped this bonded pair of gals severely matted and full of fleas.  They are very happy now that they have been groomed.  They are in a foster home with another foo foo dog.  They are kinda shy and timid at first but bond to people.  They are crate trained and leash trained.  They use a doggie door to go into back yard that is securely fenced.  They love hanging out with people and on the furniture. This bonded pair will require a securely fenced yard and frequent grooming.    San Antonio area has over 800,000 homeless pets. We save homeless and abandoned dogs and find them loving forever homes in other areas, where pet homelessness is not epidemic. All of our pets are located here, in San Antonio, and we partner with rescues to provide transportation for our pets to their new homes. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Please go to our website for all specific information about this dog.  Our info doesn't transfer over to the adoption sites.  Evie is a darling young girl.  She came to us via a local puppy miller, very pregnant.  Her mama duties are done, she's vetted, we've gotten to know her outside of being a mama and it's her time to be someone's baby. She is sweet, fairly active and good with dogs.  She loves affection and attention but doesn't quite understand this lap dog stuff and won't stay there long.  She looks like a perfect mix of toy poodle and maltese but she's the wrong color.  There was a havanese with the same coloring so she may have some of that too.  Her coat is maltese fine but curlier and her tail curls like a cinnamon roll, tight and sits straight up on her back.   She is still learning to be a house pet.  She is not house broken nor crate trained.  If left too long without trips outside, she will soil in the home or her crate.  She doesn't necessarily use the provided puppy pads either.    Her new family must be able to continue to help her with these things.  She is not leash trained either so that will need to be worked on.  And this also means, a securely fenced yard is required, no exceptions.  No younger children in the home either.   We have her on a good grain free, chicken free food (as all maltese should be on due to them being prone to allergies with both) and she's doing great.  She's been groomed twice now, once the day we got her and recently before her spay.  She was a matted, stinky, long nails and flea infested girl when we got her.  We never want her in that condition again.  Please provide your groomers name and phone number on our adoption application if you would like to apply for her.   Prior to adoption, our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and parasite treated/prevented.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 15, 2026, 10:04 pm

About these babies.  They are very sweet and very social.  They are loving running and exploring now.  They are so fluffy that they've already started getting their pads shaved and sanitary clips done. Their Mama structurally looks like a poodle and maltese mix but may have havanese in her also due to her colors and we are certain their Papa is a shih tzu .  All of the dogs at the place they came from were small hair breed dogs.  With being half shih tzu, keep in mind that once they hit adulthood, they'll likely be allergic to grain and chicken (extremely common in that breed) .  We want them fed an appropriate diet and do not want them living on apaquil as adults.    Puppies that are not old enough to have received all 3 puppy DHPP vaccines will not be adopted to anyone in apartment or condo residents as they are not protected against parvo or distemper until they've received all 3 vaccines. Our puppies are or will be neutered, micro-chipped, vaccinated age appropriate (they will need additional vaccines), de-wormed and parasite treated/prevented throughout their time with CoH as a foster puppy.   Vaccine Protocol is as follows: DHPP series of 3 are needed and puppies are not protected against parvo or distemper until they're received ALL 3 vaccines.
