Story
Lucus was the kind of puppy who should’ve had the world at his paws — bright eyes, a wiggly tail, and a heart that overflowed with sweetness. But one morning, he was found sitting quietly in a kennel at the shelter, no note, no explanation, no person waiting to say goodbye. No one knew why he’d been dumped. Maybe his family moved. Maybe they didn’t understand how gentle he really was. Maybe life just got too hard. But Lucus? He didn’t let the mystery dim his spirit. He greeted every volunteer with a hopeful bounce, pressing his soft head into their hands as if to say, “I’m still here. I’m still good. I still believe in people.” He made friends instantly — tail wagging, paws dancing, eyes shining with that goofy, outgoing charm only a rescue puppy can pull off. Lucus loved everyone. He loved the squeaky toys. He loved the long walks. He loved curling up beside anyone who sat near his kennel, offering quiet comfort with his warm little body. And slowly, the shelter realized something important: Lucus wasn’t broken. He wasn’t sad. He was ready. Ready for a family who would never leave him behind. Ready for a home where his sweetness would be cherished. Ready for a forever life filled with love, adventure, and all the belly rubs he could dream of. Lucus is waiting — hopeful, happy, and full of heart — for the person who will finally say, “Come home, little buddy.”

Story
izzy was the smallest of the pack, white colored matted sweetheart with soft eyes that always seemed to ask for kindness. She lived in a crowded backyard with several other dogs, all of them trying their best to survive on scraps, rainwater puddles, and the hope that someone would notice them. Lizzy was the gentle one — the one who nudged the others toward shade on hot days, the one who curled herself around the shivering pups at night. Even in a hard place, she carried softness like a lantern. One morning, everything changed. A neighbor finally made the call that should’ve been made long ago. When the gate opened and the animal control officers stepped inside, Lizzy didn’t bark or run. She simply lifted her head, tail tucked, and looked at them with those hopeful eyes. It worked. They knelt down, spoke softly, and Lizzy walked forward as if she’d been waiting for this moment her whole life. At the shelter, she was bathed, fed, and wrapped in a warm blanket. The staff quickly realized she wasn’t just sweet — she was special. She leaned into every hand that touched her, grateful for every gentle word. She had the kind of heart that made people stop and smile. Within days, a rescue group stepped in. They saw her photo, read her notes, and said, “We want Lizzy.” She was placed in a soft‑bed kennel, given a new collar, and loaded into a van headed toward her second chance. Lizzy didn’t know where she was going, but she knew it was somewhere better. She pressed her nose to the window, watching the world pass by — free, open, full of possibilities. And for the first time in her life, Lizzy felt like she belonged to a future that was finally kind.

Story
**🏠 Currently in a Vancouver foster home** Hi! My name is Oat, and I'm a tiny 2-year-old Maltese weighing just 3.2 kg (7 lbs). People always tell me I have the cutest little face and floppy ears that make me look a bit like a Cocker Spaniel. I have a long body, short little legs, and a heart that's even bigger than I am. My life didn't start the way every dog deserves. I was rescued from a breeding facility, and now I'm finally getting the chance to discover what it means to be loved. I think I'm going to like this new life very much. If you're looking for a best friend, I might be your perfect match. I absolutely adore people. Whether we've just met or we've known each other forever, I'm always happy to say hello with a wagging tail. I also get along wonderfully with other dogs, so I'd be happy living with a canine sibling or being your one-and-only little companion. One of the things my foster family loves most about me is how quiet and gentle I am. I rarely bark, I'm easygoing, and I enjoy simply being near the people I love. I'm also a great eater! I happily finish my meals, especially my Royal Canin Starter kibble, and I never say no to a tasty piece of boiled potato and sweet potato. Right now, I'm learning to use pee pads and adjusting to life in a home. Everything is still new to me, but I'm trying my best every single day. Since I never had the chance to experience a normal family life, I'll need someone patient to teach me the basics—walking on a leash, enjoying daily walks, and learning good manners. The good news is that I love people and I'm eager to learn, so I know we'll have lots of fun figuring everything out together. I've already left my past behind. Now all I need is a family who will love me, guide me, and promise that I'll never have to wonder where I belong again. Could that family be yours?

Story
Meet Panda! Little Panda is around 4 years old and came to us with his friend Alexander. They did not come from a loving home but they are adjusting well in their foster homes.  Panda is a friendly boy. He loves people, loves attention and is very affectionate. He gets along well with other dogs but has not met a cat. He will do best in a home with older kids (12 and up). Panda is an energetic boy who loves his walks. He is not a couch potato though he can relax alongside you just fine. He does not like to be alone - which is not uncommon for rescue dogs. They are a bit unsettled and that can cause some attachment to humans he likes. He can learn to spend time alone here and there. He can bark at times and for this reason is not suitable for apartment living. He is working on potty training - he did not learn this in his previous home - and his foster mom is working hard to help him understand. He is catching on an doing well.  Panda is scheduled to be vaccinated, neutered and chipped. His adoption fee is $450 We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495.  Thank you for stepping up to save a life! To expedite to meet with this dog, please go to our site at www.savinggreatanimals.org and fill out an application. We look at the first applications to arrive, so we hope to hear from you soon!
