Someone dumped this bonded pair of gals severely matted and full of fleas.  They are very happy now that they have been groomed.  They are in a foster home with another foo foo dog.  They are kinda shy and timid at first but bond to people.  They are crate trained and leash trained.  They use a doggie door to go into back yard that is securely fenced.  They love hanging out with people and on the furniture. This bonded pair will require a securely fenced yard and frequent grooming.    San Antonio area has over 800,000 homeless pets. Story
izzy was the smallest of the pack, white colored matted sweetheart with soft eyes that always seemed to ask for kindness. She lived in a crowded backyard with several other dogs, all of them trying their best to survive on scraps, rainwater puddles, and the hope that someone would notice them. Lizzy was the gentle one — the one who nudged the others toward shade on hot days, the one who curled herself around the shivering pups at night. Even in a hard place, she carried softness like a lantern. One morning, everything changed. A neighbor finally made the call that should’ve been made long ago. When the gate opened and the animal control officers stepped inside, Lizzy didn’t bark or run. She simply lifted her head, tail tucked, and looked at them with those hopeful eyes. It worked. They knelt down, spoke softly, and Lizzy walked forward as if she’d been waiting for this moment her whole life. At the shelter, she was bathed, fed, and wrapped in a warm blanket. The staff quickly realized she wasn’t just sweet — she was special. She leaned into every hand that touched her, grateful for every gentle word. She had the kind of heart that made people stop and smile. Within days, a rescue group stepped in. They saw her photo, read her notes, and said, “We want Lizzy.” She was placed in a soft‑bed kennel, given a new collar, and loaded into a van headed toward her second chance. Lizzy didn’t know where she was going, but she knew it was somewhere better. She pressed her nose to the window, watching the world pass by — free, open, full of possibilities. And for the first time in her life, Lizzy felt like she belonged to a future that was finally kind.

Est. DOB: 07/11/2024 Current Weight: 9lbs Adoption fee: $495 (Adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate current vaccines, microchip, and preventative flea treatment.) Teddy is an adorable Maltipoo with a fun-loving personality and plenty of affection to give! This playful little guy is friendly, sweet, and loves being around his people. Teddy does well with other dogs his size and would enjoy having a canine companion to play with. When meeting new people, Teddy does best with slow, calm introductions. He can occasionally nip when he feels unsure, so he is looking for an experienced adopter who will give him the time and space he needs to feel comfortable. Teddy would do best in a home with older children, 10+. Once Teddy gets to know you, his playful and affectionate personality really shines. If you're looking for a little companion with a big personality and lots of love to give, Teddy may be your guy! Apply today! https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/SSAR/Dog Disclaimer: Please note that dogs in a rescue environment may behave differently than they would in a home setting. While we do our best to assess each dogs habits and behaviors, we cannot guarantee that any dog is fully potty trained or will not have accidents after adoption. Changes in environment, routine, stress levels, and transition into a new home can all impact a dogs house-training habits. Patience, consistency, and continued training may be needed as the dog adjusts to their new home. Breed descriptions are provided as a general estimate based on the dog's size, shape, and appearance. These descriptions are not definitive and should be considered a "guestimate." Since we cannot always know the exact breed mix of our rescue animals, the information provided is simply an educated guess. Story
Meet Marley! This fabulous little guy looks to be a Maltese mix - it's hard to say but whatever he is, he is a gorgeous floofy fella. He is young, around 4-5 months and happy and energetic. He loves people, he loves other dogs.  He loves cats a little too much and should be in a cat free home.  Marley is just a baby and will need continued training and socialization. He does not yet know many basic manners but with some time and attention he will make a great family companion. He is a hoot. He is too young to spend much time alone at this age.  Marley is getting groomed soon and will receive his vaccinations and microchip. He will be neutered between 8-12 months of age at our cost. His adoption fee is $525 We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495.  Thank you for stepping up to save a life! Story
Meet Gidget! Gidget is around two years old and she is just a cutie. She loves walks and going outside and exploring. Gidget loves humans and is very affectionate. She needs a minute to warm up to strangers but once she trusts you she will become very attached. She is a cuddle bug and loves belly rubs and all the love.  Gigdet is crate trained and able to be left alone if you need to be away from home.  Gidget has lived with other dogs but can be a bit jealous of them so she will probably like being your only dog so that she can hog all the attention. As mentioned she can be shy with strangers and this needs some work. She is easily overwhelmed with strangers trying to touch her and she may nip in those situations. Her foster is working on this with her.  Gigdet is not suitable for a home with kids. We have not seen her with cats. She is well potty trained and just a sweetheart. Gidget is vaccinated, spayed and chipped. Her adoption fee is $450 We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495.  Thank you for stepping up to save a life! Story
Meet Alexander! Alexander is around 4 years old and came to us when his owner could no longer care for him. Alexander is a friendly, affectionate boy with a winning personality. He loves people and has a wonderful way of making everyone around him feel adored. He gets along well with other dogs and happily greets both dogs and people on his walks. He has not yet been tested with cats. We think he would also do well with children; kids over 10 should be a great fit. Alexander has a lovely balance of energy and companionship. He enjoys walks and playing in the yard, but he is equally happy curled up at his foster mom’s feet while she works from home. His favorite pastime may be gazing lovingly at her throughout the day. He has bonded beautifully with everyone in his foster home and loves being included in family life—including car rides, parks, youth sporting events, group activities/gatherings, and outdoor restaurants. He is also making great progress learning to be comfortable on his own. Alexander will go willingly into his crate with a treat and has successfully stayed home for 3+ hours. He may bark intermittently while his family is away, but he can settle himself and rest, and he comes out of his crate calm when they return. Alexander can be vocal at times, so he would not be a good fit for apartment living or a home where barking could be an issue. That said, his barking has improved tremendously as he has settled into foster care, and he is increasingly responsive to gentle correction. With consistency and time, we expect that progress to continue. Alexander was still working on potty training when he arrived in foster care, but he is coming along beautifully with a consistent routine. Regular trips outside—either into the yard or for a quick walk—have made a big difference, and his foster family is learning his cues and helping him succeed. More than anything, Alexander is a loving, social dog who wants to be part of his people’s lives. He has made wonderful progress in foster care and will thrive with a home that can give him affection, consistency, exercise, and a little patience as he continues to settle into his new life. Alexander is vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. He is scheduled for a full dental cleaning in September. His adoption fee is $450.   We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495.  Thank you for stepping up to save a life!
