This bonded pair will require a securely fenced yard and frequent grooming.    San Antonio area has over 800,000 homeless pets. Story
Est. DOB: 07/11/2024 Current Weight: 9lbs Adoption fee: $495 (Adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate current vaccines, microchip, and preventative flea treatment.) Teddy is an adorable Maltipoo with a fun-loving personality and plenty of affection to give! This playful little guy is friendly, sweet, and loves being around his people. Teddy does well with other dogs his size and would enjoy having a canine companion to play with. When meeting new people, Teddy does best with slow, calm introductions. He can occasionally nip when he feels unsure, so he is looking for an experienced adopter who will give him the time and space he needs to feel comfortable. Teddy would do best in a home with older children, 10+. Once Teddy gets to know you, his playful and affectionate personality really shines. If you're looking for a little companion with a big personality and lots of love to give, Teddy may be your guy! Apply today! https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/SSAR/Dog Disclaimer: Please note that dogs in a rescue environment may behave differently than they would in a home setting. While we do our best to assess each dogs habits and behaviors, we cannot guarantee that any dog is fully potty trained or will not have accidents after adoption. Changes in environment, routine, stress levels, and transition into a new home can all impact a dogs house-training habits. Patience, consistency, and continued training may be needed as the dog adjusts to their new home. Breed descriptions are provided as a general estimate based on the dog's size, shape, and appearance. These descriptions are not definitive and should be considered a "guestimate." Since we cannot always know the exact breed mix of our rescue animals, the information provided is simply an educated guess. Story
Meet Marley! This fabulous little guy looks to be a Maltese mix - it's hard to say but whatever he is, he is a gorgeous floofy fella. He is young, around 4-5 months and happy and energetic. He loves people, he loves other dogs.  He loves cats a little too much and should be in a cat free home.  Marley is just a baby and will need continued training and socialization. He does not yet know many basic manners but with some time and attention he will make a great family companion. He is a hoot. He is too young to spend much time alone at this age.  Marley is getting groomed soon and will receive his vaccinations and microchip. He will be neutered between 8-12 months of age at our cost. His adoption fee is $525 We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495.  Thank you for stepping up to save a life! To expedite to meet with this dog, please go to our site at www.savinggreatanimals.org and fill out an application. We look at the first applications to arrive, so we hope to hear from you soon! Story
Meet Gidget! Gidget is around two years old and she is just a cutie. She loves walks and going outside and exploring. Gidget loves humans and is very affectionate. She needs a minute to warm up to strangers but once she trusts you she will become very attached. She is a cuddle bug and loves belly rubs and all the love.  Gigdet is crate trained and able to be left alone if you need to be away from home.  Gidget has lived with other dogs but can be a bit jealous of them so she will probably like being your only dog so that she can hog all the attention. As mentioned she can be shy with strangers and this needs some work. She is easily overwhelmed with strangers trying to touch her and she may nip in those situations. Her foster is working on this with her.  Gigdet is not suitable for a home with kids. We have not seen her with cats. She is well potty trained and just a sweetheart. Gidget is vaccinated, spayed and chipped. Her adoption fee is $450 We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495.  Thank you for stepping up to save a life! Story
Meet Alexander! Alexander is around 4 years old and came to us when his owner could no longer care for him. Alexander is a friendly, affectionate boy with a winning personality. He loves people and has a wonderful way of making everyone around him feel adored. He gets along well with other dogs and happily greets both dogs and people on his walks. He has not yet been tested with cats. We think he would also do well with children; kids over 10 should be a great fit. Alexander has a lovely balance of energy and companionship. He enjoys walks and playing in the yard, but he is equally happy curled up at his foster mom’s feet while she works from home. His favorite pastime may be gazing lovingly at her throughout the day. He has bonded beautifully with everyone in his foster home and loves being included in family life—including car rides, parks, youth sporting events, group activities/gatherings, and outdoor restaurants. He is also making great progress learning to be comfortable on his own. Alexander will go willingly into his crate with a treat and has successfully stayed home for 3+ hours. He may bark intermittently while his family is away, but he can settle himself and rest, and he comes out of his crate calm when they return. Alexander can be vocal at times, so he would not be a good fit for apartment living or a home where barking could be an issue. That said, his barking has improved tremendously as he has settled into foster care, and he is increasingly responsive to gentle correction. With consistency and time, we expect that progress to continue. Alexander was still working on potty training when he arrived in foster care, but he is coming along beautifully with a consistent routine. Regular trips outside—either into the yard or for a quick walk—have made a big difference, and his foster family is learning his cues and helping him succeed. More than anything, Alexander is a loving, social dog who wants to be part of his people’s lives. He has made wonderful progress in foster care and will thrive with a home that can give him affection, consistency, exercise, and a little patience as he continues to settle into his new life. Alexander is vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. He is scheduled for a full dental cleaning in September. His adoption fee is $450.   We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495.  Thank you for stepping up to save a life! To expedite to meet with this dog, please go to our site at www.savinggreatanimals.org and fill out an application. We look at the first applications to arrive, so we hope to hear from you soon! Story
TOFFEE APPLICATIONS PAUSED! We’ve received so many applications for Toffee, so we’re pausing new applications for now. Please check out our other adoptable dogs too — so many amazing pups are still waiting!   Meet Toffee — A Sweet, People-Loving Little Gentleman!   Name: Toffee Age: 7 years old Sex: Neutered Male Breed: Maltese / Poodle Mix Colour: Brown Weight: 3.8 kg (8.4 lbs) Height: 28 cm (11 in) at the shoulder   Rescue Story   Toffee was found wandering around an apartment complex and was brought to a municipal shelter. He is now looking for a loving forever home where he can enjoy plenty of affection and companionship.   Personality & People   Toffee is a very friendly and affectionate little guy who genuinely loves people. He happily approaches both familiar faces and strangers, rubs against them for attention, and is comfortable being touched and handled.   He can easily be picked up with an arm under his belly and will even show his belly to people he has just met. He’s the type of dog who would much rather be close to his humans than off doing his own thing.   With Other Dogs   Toffee will approach unfamiliar dogs to say hello, but he generally isn’t interested in playing with them. He definitely prefers people over dogs.   He can feel intimidated by larger or high-energy dogs and will usually avoid them. He also doesn’t appreciate dogs who repeatedly pester him to play, so a home where his personal space is respected would suit him best.   With Cats   Toffee’s reaction to cats has not yet been observed, but a cat test can be arranged upon request.   Energy Level   Toffee has a moderate energy level. He enjoys getting outside and being active, but after his outdoor time, he is happy to settle down and relax quietly.   Walking   Toffee is an experienced and enjoyable walking companion. He loves going for walks, follows his handler well, and generally walks nicely without pulling on the leash.   Other Behaviours   • No food guarding toward people or other dogs • Generally calm when placed in a kennel, but if he makes eye contact with someone, he may whine or bark to ask to be let out • Primarily does his business outdoors    Health Note:Toffee recently had a dental cleaning and 9 teeth extracted due to poor dental condition when he was rescued. He is currently eating dry kibble without any issues. Other than his dental condition, we have not been informed of any other health concerns at this time.   Toffee would be a wonderful match for someone looking for a small, affectionate companion who enjoys walks but is equally happy relaxing by your side. At 7 years old, he’s past the puppy stage and knows exactly what he loves most: his people. Apply to adopt or foster: https://adoptmekr.org  PLEASE ALSO VISIT OUR FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAM!
