  This 80 pound brindle beefcake is on the hunt for an experienced foster or furever home.  Sprinkler is a four year old Mastiff / Lab mix that THRIVES on adventure.   He is a working breed dog that requires a physically strong, active family that loves to be outside and explore.  In between hikes, Sprinkler would love a big fenced-in backyard where he could play fetch with you - it's his absolute favorite!     Sprinkler is currently in a training program at New Beginning Dog Training in the Chicagoland area where he has quickly become a staff favorite.  He knows Sit, Stay, Place, is Housebroken and Crate trained.  Sprinkler can be a little apprehensive when strangers approach him and needs slower introductions to new people.  But once he warms up to you, his big goofy personality shines through.  Sprinkler is eager to learn and would love a patient, confident adopter that is willing to continue the foundational training that New Beginning Dog Training has started so that he can grow into the best dog possible.     In the home, Sprinkler flourishes under structure - he loves to follow routine!  He has also made a few furry friends while in training.  With slow introductions, Sprinkler could live with a Medium sized dog that doesn't challenge him and won't be intimidated by his rough and tumble play style.   Due to his size and energy we also think that an adult only home would be the ideal environment for a pup like Sprinkler. Swayze is officially available for adoption!! Swayze has come so far as a foster dog. When I first brought him home, he was not potty trained, not socialized and not crate trained… and that has all changed. Swayze is now fully potty trained. He is crated 8 hours a day 5 days a week and doing well. He’s not going to go into a crate for free… He happily goes in with a high value Kong treat filled with pub cheese and a dental bone. Because he’s not going to spend the whole day with cheese breath. And you should appreciate that. Socialization has been a big focus of my training with Swayze. Anyone who has raised a puppy knows that dogs need to be exposed to a lot of sights and sounds to confidently exist in the world around them. I strongly believe Swayze’s former owners skipped that step. So I’m making sure I don’t. Swayze has been exposed to a lot of new sights and sounds on our walks… and instead of jumping at anything new, he now struts down the path like he’s the shit. And he is. Work it man! In the shelter, Swayze attended multiple playgroups and has been doing well playing with my 2 giant dogs (male and female) the last couple of days. Again, I don’t think he was trained as a puppy, he sometimes can be a little mouthy with play but he has been responding really well to both of my dogs teaching him what’s acceptable in play and what’s not. And he’s listening to them and getting better. Because he’s still learning, I would really feel most comfortable with him going to a home with adults and older, respectful children only. No young children. He has not been cat tested because I hate litter boxes and that’s not an option in my home. Lastly, Swayze can be a little cautious with new men. Male volunteers worked with him in the shelter but I highly suspect that Swayze had some negative experiences with the male gender. He would benefit from a calm, patient family who would allow him to slowly warm up to men. This is an area I will continue to work with him on. Overall, Swayze is a beautiful, brindle sweetheart who has shown he is so smart and wants to be a very good boy. My home is crazy for Swayze! You will be too. He can’t wait to meet his forever family!
