Story
I received the dog in September 2025. I have papers on the dog showing birth, breed, neutered and current shot record. The dog is very timid, does not/will not sleep in a dog bed, and does not take getting shots well. Very good house dog and is house trained. Barks loud! I made my own schedule for taking the dog out daily to pee and poop. I take the dog outside 3 to 4 time daily. Dog does not run!

Story
Sweet Baby Ray lives up to his saucy name in every possible way. He soaks up attention like it’s his life’s calling, greeting anyone who looks his way with a bright, eager spark. Food motivated to a heroic degree, he’ll happily showcase his best moves for a snack, and he keeps his space tidy like a little gentleman. His days are a blend of friendly greetings, playful bursts, and goofy antics that feel like tiny celebrations. He’s the kind of dog who turns ordinary moments into warm, waggy ones, always ready to charm his way into another cuddle or game.

Story
This playful girl is the perfect mix of affection and independence! Birdie adores belly rubs, cuddles, and of course, treats! She is very treat motivated which makes training fun and rewarding. She is housebroken and enjoys spending time with her people but she is also independent enough to relax on her own. Birdie knows how to sit and is learning other commands. She is currently working on her leash manners, and still has other basics to refine, but she learns fast and actually enjoys training. Birdie does have a prey drive, so a home without cats or small dogs is going to be the safest fit. And lets be honest — Boerboels are not your casual 'first dog' breed. They are powerful protection dogs by nature and you need to understand what comes with owning a dog like her. The good news? They are phenomenal family companions when they have structure and Birdie has been nothing but gentle and sweet with her entire foster family. If you are experienced with large working breeds and want a smart, loyal, fun dog to add to your family, Birdie is your girl. A local trainer, who is actually her foster parent, is offering free training lessons to whoever adopts her, because we all want to set her and her new family up for success from day one. Birdie is one year old and weighs 112 pounds. The adoption fee for adult dogs, seven months and older, is $250. All pets are microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and will be altered prior to adoption. If you are interested in meeting a dog, please stop by the shelter during open hours. Dogs may be in a foster home, therefore scheduling an appointment is recommended. If you have an existing dog at home, we recommend bringing it along to meet your possible new family member.helpingstrays.org

Story
Compton is a big-hearted, laid-back pup who’s been through a lot and is now searching for the perfect home to call his own. Found abandoned in a park back in January with a collar and lead still attached, it’s clear that he was once someone’s pet—but now he’s looking for a family that truly understands him. Shelter life has been stressful for him, making his search for a loving home even more urgent. While he’s an absolute sweetheart, he thrives best in a calm environment without young kids, as their energy and unpredictability seem to overwhelm him. Otherwise, Compton is truly the bestest boy! This gentle lug is fully crate-trained—though a little hesitant to go in at first, a toy will convince him, and once inside, he settles quietly. He’s also potty trained and will patiently sit by the door to let you know when it’s time to go out. A dream passenger in the car, Compton enjoys gazing out the window or relaxing for the ride. He walks beautifully on a loose leash and has done well with the few dogs he’s met, suggesting he could be a great canine companion with proper introductions. At his core, Compton is just a big teddy bear who deserves all the love in a peaceful, understanding home. If you’re looking for a loyal and affectionate best friend, Compton is ready to be your perfect companion.
