Story
This playful girl is the perfect mix of affection and independence! Birdie adores belly rubs, cuddles, and of course, treats! She is very treat motivated which makes training fun and rewarding. She is housebroken and enjoys spending time with her people but she is also independent enough to relax on her own. Birdie knows how to sit and is learning other commands. She is currently working on her leash manners, and still has other basics to refine, but she learns fast and actually enjoys training. Birdie does have a prey drive, so a home without cats or small dogs is going to be the safest fit. And lets be honest — Boerboels are not your casual 'first dog' breed. They are powerful protection dogs by nature and you need to understand what comes with owning a dog like her. The good news? They are phenomenal family companions when they have structure and Birdie has been nothing but gentle and sweet with her entire foster family. If you are experienced with large working breeds and want a smart, loyal, fun dog to add to your family, Birdie is your girl. A local trainer, who is actually her foster parent, is offering free training lessons to whoever adopts her, because we all want to set her and her new family up for success from day one. Birdie is one year old and weighs 112 pounds. The adoption fee for adult dogs, seven months and older, is $250. All pets are microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and will be altered prior to adoption. If you are interested in meeting a dog, please stop by the shelter during open hours. Dogs may be in a foster home, therefore scheduling an appointment is recommended. If you have an existing dog at home, we recommend bringing it along to meet your possible new family member.helpingstrays.org

Story
Meet Chili Mac!    This 11-month-old Cane Corso is a big, lovable goofball with a heart as giant as his paws! Chili Mac is equal parts cuddle bug and class clown — he’ll make you laugh one minute and melt into your lap the next.   He can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once he decides you’re cool, he’s all in! He’s great with dogs big and small (seriously — from 6 lbs to 120 lbs!), crate and potty trained, and already knows some basic commands.   Due to Chili Mac's size and clumsiness, he would do best in a home with older children. He would also be best with someone who has breed/guardian experience given some mouthy behaviors which are normal for the breed.   Chili Mac would love an active home with another dog friend or a human adventure buddy. Whether you’re hiking, road-tripping, or just lounging on the couch- as long as you don’t mind a little drool, he’s ready to be your ride-or-die!    If interested, please  complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Our $295 adoption fee includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 12, 2025, 2:35 pm

Story
Bella is big and beautiful with a personality to match. This six-year-old mastiff mix girl adores people, snuggles, pets, and attention. She is spayed and up-to-date on all her medical care and is heartworm-negative. Bella is a big girl, approximately 65 pounds, so while she is very good with people, she would be best with older kids who can keep up with her size. She is house-trained, and a fenced yard would be best since Bella is a large dog and likes to play. Bella likes her people so much she doesn't want to share and would do best as the only dog in her home. To meet Bella, visit istodaymydayrescue.org to fill out an application. Her adoption fee is $100.

Story
Compton is a big-hearted, laid-back pup who’s been through a lot and is now searching for the perfect home to call his own. Found abandoned in a park back in January with a collar and lead still attached, it’s clear that he was once someone’s pet—but now he’s looking for a family that truly understands him. Shelter life has been stressful for him, making his search for a loving home even more urgent. While he’s an absolute sweetheart, he thrives best in a calm environment without young kids, as their energy and unpredictability seem to overwhelm him. Otherwise, Compton is truly the bestest boy! This gentle lug is fully crate-trained—though a little hesitant to go in at first, a toy will convince him, and once inside, he settles quietly. He’s also potty trained and will patiently sit by the door to let you know when it’s time to go out. A dream passenger in the car, Compton enjoys gazing out the window or relaxing for the ride. He walks beautifully on a loose leash and has done well with the few dogs he’s met, suggesting he could be a great canine companion with proper introductions. At his core, Compton is just a big teddy bear who deserves all the love in a peaceful, understanding home. If you’re looking for a loyal and affectionate best friend, Compton is ready to be your perfect companion.

Meet Mendoza, a distinguished male Mastiff mix around seven years old, who offers the perfect blend of maturity and calm companionship! This gentle soul is wonderfully calmer and exhibits a lower energy level, making him an ideal partner for peaceful evenings and relaxed strolls. Mendoza is reliably housetrained, ensuring a smooth transition into your home. He is dog friendly/selective, meaning he appreciates canine companionship but thrives best with thoughtful introductions to find the right friends. If you are seeking a quiet, dependable, and loving gentleman who prefers gentle company over chaotic activity, Mendoza is ready to be your loyal, laid-back friend.
