Story
At 8 years old, King Shady is a big-hearted Mastiff mix looking for a calm, understanding forever home. He may be a senior, but he’s still full of life and has plenty of love to give. When it’s time for a walk, King Shady is eager to head out but settles nicely once he’s outside—he doesn’t pull on leash and enjoys lumbering along at his own pace. He’s social with people, calm and curious when meeting new friends, and enjoys gentle pets and attention. With his handlers, King Shady is affectionate—he’ll lean in for scratches, roll over for belly rubs, and happily soak up time spent together.King Shady will need a home where he is the only pet. He can be reactive when seeing other dogs and should not live with children due to his resource guarding behavior around food. His perfect match is an experienced adopter who understands his needs and can give him a safe, structured environment where he can relax and shine. While King Shady isn’t interested in toys, he’s more about the simple joys in life—steady walks, quiet companionship, and people who respect his boundaries. He has so much love to give to the right person who can see past his quirks and offer him the stable, loving home he deserves. If you have a soft spot for seniors and experience with large breed dogs, King Shady might just be the loyal companion you’ve been waiting for. ??To complete adoption questionnaire: https://hamiltonmcnj.seamlessdocs.com/f/AdoptionApplicationTo see other available animals: https://www.hamiltonnj.com/173/Pets-Available-for-AdoptionHamilton Township Animal Shelter cannot offer any guarantees on the age, health, temperament, personality or mental disposition of any pet. Make A Difference in your Community - Adopt a Shelter Dog! Would you like to foster a Shelter Survivor? For more information, visit us at www.sheltersurvivors.com THIS IS A COURTESY POSTING – Twix is not in one of our foster homes and we have not met him, we are assisting his owners with finding him a new home. Here are fun facts his owner wants you to know: - Twix / 3yo / Male/ Neutered / 65 lbs / In great health - Mastiff/Herding mix - Up to date on vax since 8/25/25 - Will do best with experienced, active dog owners who would be able to be consistent with good daily habits to strengthen his foundational training. No other animals, no small children in the house. - Has had multiple professional training experiences, all successful. Quick improvements in training sessions. He is passionate about learning. - Housetrained and very communicative about needing the bathroom. Will whine/grumble, give paw or look at door. - He is crate trained and loves his crate. He will crate himself to take naps throughout the day and also will tuck himself to bed when the sun goes down and sleeps through the night. - Not destructive in the home at all, even when left alone. No separation anxiety. - Walks nice on leash! Big sniffer. Knows heel. - Energy level is average/medium. Will match your energy to be very active or a couch potato. Greets with excitement for just a few minutes. - Shines with his family/pack and loves physical and verbal affection. - Total silly playful goofball and sweetie pie who just wants to love. - Loves long walks (hiking and camping), swimming, tug and fetch. - Nervous when not introduced to new dogs and new people but eased with structured introduction or pack walk. 100% success rate when introduced to new people. Selectively reactive with intact males. - No cats is best. He is ok with cats if the cat leaves the dog alone. He lived 2 years with a male cat and they kept to themselves and lived peacefully. - Not socialized around kids. Unknown. - Resource guards around main meals and high value treats, but not with training treats. Very easy to train (food motivated). Does not protect empty bowl. - One bite due to mishandling by his previous owner. The dog was nervous around a stranger and the previous owner did not intro or deescalate then dropped leash. After a professional reactivity evaluation, a trainer assessed him to be safe and not serious about bites. - Previous owner got him as a puppy from a friend’s litter. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application Zoey (fka Ruckus) came back to MTM after being adopted several years ago and her adopter recently passed away.    She is doing great in her foster home living with a toddler, 2 young kids and dogs of all sizes.   Zoey did take a bit to adjust. She is shy at first meeting, but once she settles in, she seeks attention and thrives off of routine. So if interested in meeting her, please understand, she does not show well, but given some time and patience, she will come around and show great affection.    She has begun to engage the other dogs in play and loves to spend time outside in the yard. She does well being left alone with the other dogs, with no concern of messes or destructive behavior.     She does pull on the leash and will need some help with that, but that too needs to be made part of her routine. Zoey is a low to medium energy dog and is content to just hang out. She will pick a favorite bed and that becomes her spot.    Zoey does well riding in the car, was well behaved at the vets office and doesn't mind a nail trim as long as shes being scratched at the same time.   She is potty trained and will go to the door or even come wake you if she needs to go out.    Zoey has been fully updated on vaccines and received a dental. She is ready for a new family! Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application HEADLINER:  Tiny Tim “Tiny” PERSONALITY: Tiny can be on alert around people that are not regulars in the home however with some supervision and guidance he can warm up fast and become very loving. He has a bit of an “alpha” attitude and will occasionally have a low soft growl around small children. It is recommended he not be placed with any home that has pre teens or regular pack members that can over do it on attention. He is loyal and loving , he requires a lot of petting and attention. He does drool and will need help keeping his front legs cleaned often. FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: He likes being around other regular pack members and will bark at anything he deems a threat including door bells. MEDICAL ISSUES: He may have allergies as his eyes often have a mucus build up in both eyes but he enjoys getting his eyes wiped. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: No pre teens or no homes with a immature personality as he does not like to be teased. A home with a lot of love to give because he cant get enough. He will joyfully greet regular pack members when the return home from even the shortest trips and will follow you around as long as you can handle.
