Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us! *Angel and Baby lived in a VERY filthy home.  When they were found during a "well check" they were immediately picked up and taken away from the crappy existence they had lived in all their life :(   These 2 little girls are the SWEETEST girls EVER and they do not leave each others sight!  We will not separate them they deserve to keep their best friend FUR LIFE!!! If you are looking for a bonded pair you couldn't get a sweeter set! MUST BE ADOPTED AS A BONDED PAIR MUST HAVE FENCE  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not. A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop! Story
Meet Flossy Can you imagine spending seven years bringing life into the world, litter after litter, puppy after puppy, never once having someone love you back? Never having a soft bed that was yours, a person who was yours, a moment that was simply and completely yours? That was Flossy's life. Seven years as a breeding mom, giving everything and receiving so little in return. She is done with that chapter now. And the dog emerging on the other side of it is something truly worth knowing. Flossy is seven years old and she is learning, one careful step at a time, that humans can be kind and safe. She never learned that before and so she is taking nothing for granted. She tends to warm more naturally to men and has a special fondness for her foster dad, which makes complete sense for a girl who spent her life in circumstances that gave her little reason to trust. Her foster mom does everything for her and Flossy is still working on fully letting her in, which is a good reminder that love on Flossy's terms is the only kind that counts and it is worth every moment of patience it requires. She is sweet and gentle and has a quiet affection that reveals itself in her own time and in her own way. She loves to be close to her people, curled up on the couch or tucked into a bed beside someone she trusts. She can use a crate but she is happiest when she has the freedom to roam and choose her own spot, which is usually as close to her humans as she can get on her own terms. She does an absolutely adorable little circle dance at mealtimes and takes treats with the most gentle softness you have ever felt. She is in there, warm and loving and real, and she is coming forward more every day. She does need to be approached with warning and care, particularly when being picked up. She is learning that hands that reach for her mean safety and kindness, but that is a new concept for Flossy and she needs a home that will honor that with patience and consistency. Flossy is on anxiety medication as she works through the big feelings that come with a life like hers. She needs a secure fence without exception as she is a flight risk outdoors. She thrives in a quiet home away from city noise, quick movements, and the unpredictability of young children. A confident and gentle dog companion in the home would help her feel more settled and secure. She needs an experienced and deeply patient adopter who understands that some dogs arrive already loving you, and some dogs arrive having to learn what love even is. Flossy is the second kind. And the person who earns her trust is going to receive something extraordinary in return. She spent 7 years giving everything she had to a world that gave her very little back. She deserves a home that changes that completely and forever.

Story
Current Location: Pylesville, MD Meet Reign. This six month old black poodle mix weighs about 20 lb and is a soft, thoughtful girl learning how wonderful home life can be. She is a little timid at first, but with patience and kindness, her sweet personality starts to shine. Reign loves to play and has a soft spot for stuffies, rope toys, and a good chew like a Nylabone. She also enjoys enrichment activities like puzzle feeders and little games that build her confidence. She is curious and engaged, and these activities help her feel safe while learning. She has started exploring the world on leash and did surprisingly well on her first walk after a few minutes to adjust. In the yard, she enjoys playing with other dogs and would really benefit from a confident canine companion to help guide her. She can also entertain herself and will settle nicely on a dog bed or the sofa for quiet time throughout the day. Reign is doing beautifully with house manners. She has had no accidents, is not destructive, and can be gently redirected if she picks up something she should not. She is learning about things like counters and excited greetings, and she responds well because she loves both food and attention. That makes her a great student for continued training. She currently sleeps peacefully on a dog bed next to her person and settles for a full night without issue. When left alone, she does best in a gated space where she feels secure and has done well with this setup. Reign is happiest when she is near her people. She will thrive in a home where someone is around more often or where she has a confident dog companion. Being left alone all day would be hard for her, but with the right environment, she will continue to grow in confidence every day. Reign is a gentle, loving girl with so much potential. Give her patience, structure, and companionship, and you will watch her blossom into an incredibly devoted and joyful companion.

Story
Current Location: Richmond, VA Meet Dina: A Soft-Hearted Doodle Mix Ready to Bond Deeply with You Dina is a 3 year old, 60 pound doodle mix with a soft heart and an even softer desire to bond deeply with her person. Once she decides you're her human, she becomes a total Velcro dog, happy to follow you around, lean in for affection, and soak up every bit of love you offer. Smart and Well-Trained Dina is both crate trained and potty trained, and she already knows an impressive list of cues: sit, paw, crate, leave it, place, gentle, and wait. She's treat motivated, eager to learn, and already improving her leash manners. She's working on loose leash walking, recall, and polite doorway behavior, showing just how capable and willing she is to be the best companion she can be. Joyful Explorer Outdoors, Dina is a joyful explorer who loves zoomies, crunching icy snow chunks, and trotting around the yard, even when the ground is slippery. She's resilient, curious, and always ready for the next adventure. She's been appropriate with other dogs she's met and shows curiosity, but no reactivity, toward wildlife like birds and squirrels. Building Trust Dina can be cautious with new people. But with patience, calm energy, and a few tossed treats, she warms up beautifully, sometimes within minutes. Once she realizes someone is safe, she transforms into a snuggly, affectionate companion who paws gently for more pets. Watching her personality blossom is one of the most rewarding experiences you'll have. Best Home Fit This sweet girl thrives with structure, reassurance, and a person who understands that confidence takes time. In return, she'll offer unwavering loyalty, endless affection, and the joy of watching her grow into the confident, loving companion she's meant to be. If you're looking for a loving, devoted companion who just wants to feel safe and cherished, Dina may be your perfect match. Apply today!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Jessica (jesswalton.jw@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.Alfredo is a 3-year-old white poodle mix with a huge personality packed into one small, fluffy body. After a rough start in life, this resilient little guy is discovering just how good love and comfort can be and he’s soaking it up every chance he gets. It’s impossible not to smile around him! Alfredo is playful, affectionate, cuddly, and endlessly entertaining. He loves squeaky toys, bones, zooming around the yard, and then dramatically crashing into a nap curled up beside his favorite person. He’s happiest hanging out near his humans, whether that’s snuggled in bed, relaxing in his crate, or perched by the window keeping watch on the world outside. Because Alfredo is such a smart and observant dog, he thrives with gentle guidance and a patient routine that helps him feel secure and confident. He forms strong bonds with the people he trusts and will do best in a calmer home with older, respectful children or adults who understand that sensitive dogs blossom with kindness and consistency. He’s also quite the adventurous little guy and likes to explore, so a secure fenced yard is a must and supervised outdoor time will help keep him safe while he enjoys his zoomies. Alfredo does well with other dogs but doesn't like cats. He is house-trained, crate-trained, and has plenty of love to give to the lucky person who earns his trust. Alfredo is looking for someone who will appreciate both his playful side and his sensitive heart. In return, he’ll be a loving, loyal companion who never stops making life more fun. Alfredo is neutered, up to date on shots, and microchipped. Story
Meet Zeke! He is a 5-year-old, 13lbs Yorkie Bichon mix. Zeke is the happiest little guy, wanting nothing more than attention, a soft bed and his ball. When he wants you to throw his ball, he will bring it up to you, drop it at your feet, and nudge it towards you with his nose. Zeke is a sweetheart. Home visit and adoption donation required. Zeke has a moderate to high energy level, so he will need exercise and enrichment every day, multiple times a day. He would do great as an only pup, or with another small friendly dog. He has the body structure of a Bichon with a Yorkie coat, so he will require lifelong grooming. Zeke would be happiest being allowed on furniture. He loves to watch out the window from the back of the couch or chair. Zeke is potty trained and working on basic obedience, but he is already a very good boy. Continued training and bolstering his confidence would be best. If you are able to meet Zeke’s needs, this adorable lovebug is for you!"
