Story
Cienna arrives in Colorado Saturday 2/7 and needs a committed foster home or adopter to welcome her! Cienna and sister Camila were found running the streets in the Rio Grande Valley on the Texas/Mexico border. No, not like the mafia- running with their legs. They were matted and dirty and knew that wasn't the life they were meant to live. They were scooped up into rescue, sent through the canine version of a car wash, and look at Cienna now!!! If you didn't notice, Cienna is very photogenic- she waits to take funny pics with you. This is an easy girl who loves other dogs, kids, cat tested, loves to play, likes to go on walks & good on leash, potty trained, crate trained. Please keep in mind that a Schnauzer like Cienna will need regular grooming. Cienna has been patiently undergoing heartworm treatment (heartworm is the bain of Texas rescues, please consider donating ) with her rescuer in San Antonio, Texas. Luckily, her treatment is now complete and she's ready to make the journey up to the mountains and sun in Colorado! She just needs you to open up the door to foster or adopt her! ***Cienna is being posted on behalf of our partner rescue in Texas- the process and adoption will go through them. The adoption fee does not include the transport fee (usually $125-200/dog).*** Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado. We primarily rescue dogs off the streets and from kill shelters in San Antonio. ##2650471##

Story
Howard is a 10.5-pound Miniature Schnauzer who is still very early in his journey toward feeling safe in a human world. He’s a deeply nervous little guy who prefers to keep his distance, quietly observing everything from afar. Though he’s not ready to approach people just yet, he watches closely—and those watchful eyes are full of curiosity. Howard is still learning to trust humans and will need a patient, understanding home that is willing to work with him at his pace, especially when it comes to handling. Fast movements, loud noises, and unfamiliar people can still make him nervous, so a calm, predictable environment is essential for his continued progress. At this stage, Howard is learning that people bring good things, like tossed treats and gentle, consistent routines. While he remains very cautious, he has shown that he can make progress in the right environment with time and patience. Howard feels safest when he’s with a canine companion and requires another confident, friendly dog already established in the home to help guide him and provide reassurance. He also requires a securely fenced yard, as this allows him to feel safer while navigating the outdoors. When he’s with another dog, his confidence noticeably improves. Though he’s not ready for physical affection, Howard does enjoy being groomed and pampered—those calm, predictable moments seem to help him relax and feel cared for in a way that feels safe to him. Howard will do best in a quiet, experienced home that understands fearful dogs and is committed to letting trust build naturally over time. He’s not looking for perfection—just someone who can offer patience, consistency, and kindness while celebrating each small step forward. With the right support, Howard has the potential to continue blossoming into a dog who feels safe and secure in his world. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog’s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!

Story
Rudy is a 3-year-old Miniature Schnauzer weighing 12 pounds. She’s a shy, sensitive girl who is still learning to trust people, but her strong food motivation makes treats a wonderful way to build positive connections and encourage her confidence. Rudy is very attached to her canine companions and feels safest when she has another dog by her side. While Rudy may be reserved at first, she secretly enjoys being held by the people she trusts—those gentle moments help strengthen her bond once she feels safe. She enjoys puzzle toys that keep her mind engaged and responds well to positive, reward-based interactions. Rudy will do best in a patient home that is confident handling small dogs and understands the needs of shy, sensitive pups. With time, consistency, and kindness, Rudy has the potential to blossom into a loyal, affectionate companion who thrives alongside her canine friend. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet.
