Story
Looking for a new home for our schnauzer mix, Mina. We are devastated to have to her go but are moving overseas in April and won’t be able to find an apartment that allows dogs. Mina is a fantastic dog. She’s fully house trained, does not shed, loves walks and playing fetch, and it’s just as good at snuggling as she is at minding her own business and laying low. She has a sassy, smart schnauzer personality. She would prefer to be the only dog in the home but can get along with other animals if needed. We adopted her when she was six years old from a shelter that found her in Wyoming on the streets. I do not know her backstory, but I’m certain she had previous owners because her tail is docked. Mina is predicted to be about 11 years old, but she is still incredibly mobile, loves to play fetch, many people confuse her with a puppy. Please reach out if you are interested in meeting Mina or learning more about her.

Story
Howard is a 10.5-pound Miniature Schnauzer who is still very early in his journey toward feeling safe in a human world. He’s a deeply nervous little guy who prefers to keep his distance, quietly observing everything from afar. Though he’s not ready to approach people just yet, he watches closely—and those watchful eyes are full of curiosity. Howard is still learning to trust humans and will need a patient, understanding home that is willing to work with him at his pace, especially when it comes to handling. Fast movements, loud noises, and unfamiliar people can still make him nervous, so a calm, predictable environment is essential for his continued progress. At this stage, Howard is learning that people bring good things, like tossed treats and gentle, consistent routines. While he remains very cautious, he has shown that he can make progress in the right environment with time and patience. Howard feels safest when he’s with a canine companion and requires another confident, friendly dog already established in the home to help guide him and provide reassurance. He also requires a securely fenced yard, as this allows him to feel safer while navigating the outdoors. When he’s with another dog, his confidence noticeably improves. Though he’s not ready for physical affection, Howard does enjoy being groomed and pampered—those calm, predictable moments seem to help him relax and feel cared for in a way that feels safe to him. Howard will do best in a quiet, experienced home that understands fearful dogs and is committed to letting trust build naturally over time. He’s not looking for perfection—just someone who can offer patience, consistency, and kindness while celebrating each small step forward. With the right support, Howard has the potential to continue blossoming into a dog who feels safe and secure in his world. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog’s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!

Story
Meet Briggs! Briggs is a 5-month-old Schnauzer weighing 14.2 pounds of puppy sweetness. As a young pup, he is still learning how to navigate the world and can be a bit shy at first. With patience, understanding, and a gentle approach, he continues to gain confidence and show his loving personality. Because he’s still growing and learning, the right training and socialization are key to setting him up for success and ensuring a great fit in his new home. A family committed to helping him build skills and confidence will help Briggs truly thrive. Briggs may do best in a home with another friendly dog companion to help guide him and provide reassurance as he continues to develop. To ensure the best possible match, a meet and greet at our shelter is required for all potential adopters. We want to make sure Briggs finds the right home — and that your home is the perfect place for him to grow and flourish. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Meet Jody – The Curious Little Explorer At just 12 pounds, Jody may be small in size, but his heart is full of wonder. This 4-year-old Miniature Schnauzer is a gentle soul who’s slowly learning how good it feels to be safe, seen, and loved. Jody can be a little shy when you first meet him, but give him just a moment—and a quiet yard to explore—and his personality comes bounding out. He’s happiest when his nose is to the ground, sniffing out every hidden scent in the play yard and trotting from one new discovery to the next. While he’s still learning that leash walks can be fun, he’s already imagining a life where daily strolls and relaxing porch sits are part of his routine. He’s not so sure about being picked up yet, but he’s coming along and working with our team to build trust. And in true Schnauzer fashion, Jody likes to let you know how he’s feeling with his adorable little voice. Whether it’s sniffing the breeze or watching the world go by, Jody is ready to find a calm, patient home where he can continue to grow in confidence and bloom into the joyful companion he’s meant to be. 📍 Available at our Dogsville facility in Humansville, MO 🖱 Apply to adopt at www.nmdr.org (select Missouri)
