Story
Meet Cherry 🍒 2 year old, Mixed breed, 30lbs, female Cherry came to us a few months ago after she was abandoned in a parking lot with cardboard box full of newborn pups. Luckily a Good Samaritan picked her up and got her to safety. She had 8 beautiful pups and she was such a good mommy. Now it’s her turn to find a forever home! She is on the submissive side and good with other dogs. She is house trained, although we do think she has never lived indoors with a family. We are working on her confidence and she will need a patient home. Cherry is very sweet and loves her belly rubbed. We believe she may be a Mountain Cur mix. Cherry is now current on vaccines, heart worm tested negative, spay, and microchipped. We are accepting applications at https://form.jotform.com/secondhandpaws/app

Story
Welcome back Jax (Newton) ❤️ Born 5/19/23, approximately 20lbs, neutered male Introducing Jax! Jax is looking for a new family, he was adopted as a puppy but was returned to rescue. Jax is a Mountain Cur/ Australian Cattle Dog and Rat Terrier mix, which means he is driven and craves attention. He has an eagerness to please that we don’t see in many dogs, making him a fantastic dog for someone who enjoys the outdoors, such as hiking, walking, camping or just a leisure walk around the neighborhood. Jax would also excel at agility or a similar activity, he is a quick and agile guy. Jax can be a bit possessive of his person and his toys so he needs a person who while give him clear direction and corrections. He responds very well to verbal commands, he knows what is expected, but he likes to push those boundaries sometimes, he is still young after all. Jax is totally house and crate trained. He walks well on a leash and knows several commands such as sit, down, shake, drop it and stay. If Jax sounds like he would be a good fit for your life, he would love to meet you! He current on vaccines, microchipped, and neutered. We are accepting applications at https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/SHPA/Dog

Story
ADOPTION FEE SPONSORED! Meet TROOPER, a big beautiful teddy bear of a dog looking for a home. He is a mixed breed boy, about 7 years old and currently 60 pounds but should weigh around 45 pounds. Trooper is an absolute love. His tail never stops wagging. He was adopted from SDHR 5 years ago at the beginning of the pandemic but was recently returned to us through no fault of his own. We can't stress that last part enough, Trooper is a wonderful dog. Here's a little backstory on Trooper -- when he arrived back in 2020, we noticed he walked a little funny and discovered that Trooper had suffered significant injuries at some point in his young life. X-Rays revealed that BOTH of his rear femurs had been broken and he never received medical care. He was probably hit by a car. Left untreated the breaks healed badly and by the time he found his way to us the injuries were old and there was nothing we could do to repair the legs. He still has full use of his legs and can navigate life quite well but we can't imagine how this guy must have suffered. At the time Trooper was adopted, he weighed 42 pounds and his adopter was given instructions to keep him lean to protect his mobility. Clearly that didn't happen because here he is, 5 years later and 60 pounds. However, that's not the reason Trooper was returned. A new dog was brought into Troopers home. The new dog has aggression issues and it was no longer a safe environment for Trooper so we agreed to take him back. Trooper's needs are simple -- he needs a home with someone to love him, someone who will love him enough to help him achieve a healthy body weight and protect his mobility. He can handle a few steps but he can't handle full flights of stairs. He happily trots around the yard and likes to play. He thrives on human attention and would be so happy to spend his time cuddled up on the sofa. If you can give sweet Trooper the safe loving home he deserves, please fill out a dog adoption application at dreamhouserescue.org. We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. You can meet Trooper at our weekly adoption event, Saturday noon-2 at PetSmart Eastgate. All of our fully-vetted adoptable dogs go to prospective homes for a one-week trial period to make sure the dog and home are the right fit before an adoption is finalized. We only adopt dogs into homes where all current pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We do check veterinary references to make sure adopters are compliant with standard veterinary care. Our adoptable dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, dewormed and current on flea and tick and heartworm prevention.
