Story
Lobo is such a lovable, gentle soul.  He absolutely loves other dogs and  people. Loyal and easy going, he's the perfect companion for humans and dogs. He is allergic to chicken as a protein in his food and is using fish as the main protein, he’s definitely gaining the weight he needs!    He is finding his voice and does do some barking.    He loves to play and has learned tug of war, both with humans & other dogs.    Lobo loves treats and to cuddle and gets so excited over everything.    We are still working on him not jumping on people, but still also trying to allow him to be a dog.    He may eat your food if it’s within his reach, but he has gotten a lot better at that (he was starved when we found him). Lobo does great on a leash (harness/leash) and enjoys walks.    He is a little anxious and still getting used to everything going on in the world.    He does get nervous in car rides and will pee, but we’re working on that, too.    He does great being left out (of the kennel) over night and so far, up to 5-6 hours, but also does great if he’s put in the kennel.    Lobo gets a little nervous at night when I open the back to door let them all pee before bed and sometimes will need you to walk out there with him while he does his thing (I think he was left outside before he was abandoned and afraid you’ll leave him out there).  He doesn't mind the rain, either! Lobo pays attention to what the other dogs do and follows suit!   He can eat at the same time, right next to the other dogs and they all respect each other’s boundaries.    He is great waiting in line for his treats, too!    He is good with baths and trimming his nails.   He can sit, lay down, & stay.  He is the perfect fit if you’re wanting another dog to keep your current dog company, without starting at the puppy phase.    He has great energy.  Age: 2 years WT:  41lbs. Temperament: Good with all people and dogs.   Vetting: neutered, up to date on vaccines, HW negative    Training: House trained, crate trained, knows a few commands,  For questions, please email hmlid14@yahoo.com     To ensure we're meeting both pet and adopters' needs, we ask potential adopters to complete an Adoption Application (www.bit.ly/DH-Adoption) for caretakers to review. Once your application is approved, we will bring the adoptable pet to your home for a preliminary visit. We are 100% donation-funded and our fees are equivalent to (or less than) the cost to fully vet a new dog yourself. April 22, 2024, 8:24 am

Story
Wilco is a 5 year old Plott Hound who we've owned since she was a puppy. She is spayed, house and crate trained, and has been in extensive obedience training and LOVES to practice her skills. She does not have any dietary restrictions other than being a little picky (she likes some stock on her dry dog food) and her health has been top notch her whole life. She currently takes prozac to help with her anxiety, which she's had since we moved to Chicago in 2021. Wilco is good around other dogs and hasn't spent much time around cats. She is nervous around small children, which is why we need to rehome her - she's been very cagey and a little growly around our baby, and we think she'd do better in a house without small children (under 5). She's totally fine with older kids and humans. She gets 60 minutes of exercise a day, loves pets but not to cuddle, and won't try to sleep on your bed (she prefers her crate).

Story
Cookie is in love with life and she is constantly in motion, a little whirlwind of tiger stripes swirling around the shelter. She is joyful, bubbly and incredibly curious about everything. She peppers us with questions: What's in your pocket? Where is the sky? Why won't the squirrels let me sniff them? Cookie needs a human friend (or friends) to teach her and guide her. She'd love a home where playing is encouraged and she will be allowed to join in the fun. Cookie loves toys and would like to become a Master of Fetch one day. She's smart and wants to please you. We're learning more about her play style and likes, but she seems good with seeing other dogs around the shelter. Cookie is delightful, and she deserves every good thing in life.
