Meet Hudson!Hudson is a 4-month-old, 25-pound mixed-breed pup who may have some Plott Hound in the mix. He joined BDC after a local animal control officer was asked to help rehome him when he was bought from a breeder to a couple who was living somewhere that didn`t allow dogs. Like a lot of people who take home a puppy, they also quickly learned that puppyhood is… a LOT. So Hudson found his way to BDC, and we’re determined to find him a family who is ready for all the fun, chaos, and hard work that comes with raising a puppy.Hudson is a very sweet, very typical puppy who is still figuring out how to be a dog in this big world. He’s working hard on his house training, crate training, leash skills, and basic manners, but he’s also still chewing things he shouldn’t, getting a little too excited, and occasionally failing to realize that what he really needs is a nap. In other words: he’s a puppy!He is still very early in his training journey, so his new family will need to be committed to continuing his positive-reinforcement training, including puppy classes, to help him grow into the well-adjusted family dog we know he can become.Hudson could live with teens and another playful, dog-savvy pup who is up for some puppy antics. He’ll need a family who has the time, patience, and energy to keep up with a growing puppy and help him learn all those important life skills.No cats, please, and no apartments. His foster says: `Hudson is a playful, smart, and treat-motivated puppy who loves people and other dogs. He knows “sit” and “down,” is house-trained, responds to his name, and stays close to us and my dogs during walks.Hudson enjoys playing with my large dogs, balls, sticks, bones, and stuffed animals, but he also knows how to settle in for a good nap. When he sleeps, he loves being cuddled up next to one of his foster dog friends—or right beside his person. Like any puppy, he is still learning that toys are for chewing, so he will need continued guidance and supervision.He is comfortable on car rides and approaches new experiences with confidence. He greets dogs his size and larger very well and enjoys canine companionship. On leash, Hudson is learning not to pull and may weave a little as he explores. ROMERO HAS BEEN WAITING SO LONG, HE’S STARTING TO THINK HIS INVITATION GOT LOST IN THE MAIL. Romero is a 1.5 year old Plott Hound mix that is ridiculously handsome, wildly social and, somehow, one of our longest residents. The strange thing is, Romero doesn’t act like a dog who has been overlooked. He still wakes up ready for whatever the day might bring. He wants walks, adventures, and important investigations of smells the rest of us clearly lack the qualifications to appreciate. He approaches life like there is probably something wonderful happening just around the corner. And he is especially convinced other dogs are wonderful. Romero loves his canine friends and would be thrilled to have a playful buddy at home. Someone to wrestle with, explore with and help conduct important household research into whether the sound of a cheese wrapper is detectable from three rooms away. But when playgroup ends, his friends eventually go back to their kennels. And Romero goes back to his. Again. That part hurts more now because Romero has watched so many dogs come after him and leave before him. Families walk through our doors. Applications come in. Happy adoption photos get taken. And somehow, our happy boy keeps getting passed by. He doesn’t know he’s one of our longest residents. He doesn’t know how many times we’ve wondered why nobody has chosen him yet. He just keeps believing someone will. Romero isn’t asking for an extraordinary life. He’d be perfectly happy with walks, toys, adventures, maybe a dog friend and someone legally obligated to remind him several times a day that he remains devastatingly handsome. Vet records should show proof of current vaccinations and spay/neuter surgery for animals already living in your home. You may bring hard copies with you during adoption hours or email them to HeartofRIAdoption@gmail.com Requirements to Adopt from EGAPL Heart of RI To adopt from us: - You must be a Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont or Maine resident. We are unable to adopt to residents living in Massachusetts due to policies in that state. - You must be at least 21 years old. - Everyone living in the home must be aware of and involved in the adoption.All household members must meet our team before an application can be approved. They do not all need to come in at the same time. - Any current dogs in the home must complete an onsite meet and greet with the dog you are hoping to adopt. - Current pets in the home must be up to date on veterinary care and spayed or neutered. Once veterinary records have been reviewed, our team will schedule an onsite meet and greet with the dog you are hoping to adopt and any current dog or dogs in your home. We want to help make sure the match is safe, appropriate, and successful. Please do not bring your dog with you when you first apply. Our team will contact you to schedule a meet and greet if your application is moving forward. Helpful Reminders There is no set timeline for how long it takes to process an application. Our team does their best to review applications as quickly as possible. Adoption Fees Adoption fees help us continue to provide lifesaving care to animals in need. EGAPL Heart of RI is a nonprofit animal rescue and does not receive state or federal funding. The cost of veterinary care, food, supplies, staffing, transport, medications, and daily shelter operations has increased significantly.While adoption fees do not cover the full cost of caring for each animal, they help offset a portion of the medical care, housing, and support each pet receives before going home. A Note About Puppy and Kitten Vaccines Puppies and kittens require a series of vaccines as they grow. We provide as many age appropriate distemper vaccines as possible while they are in our care, but young animals may still need additional boosters after adoption.Your adoption counselor will review your pets vaccine record with you so you know exactly what has been done and what may still be needed with your veterinarian. A Note About Leptospirosis Vaccines for Dogs We start dogs and puppies on the leptospirosis vaccine when age appropriate. Because some dogs are adopted before the booster is due, the full lepto series may not be completed before adoption. Your adoption counselor will review your dog's vaccine record with you and let you know whether a booster is still needed with your veterinarian. After Adoption Veterinary Care We recommend setting up an appointment with your veterinarian shortly after adoption. This helps your new pet establish care, allows your veterinarian to review their medical and vaccine history, and ensures they stay on track for any boosters or follow up care they may need. Flea and tick prevention, as well as heart worm prevention for dogs, are typically prescription products. Your veterinarian can help choose the safest and most appropriate preventatives for your pet based on their age, weight, medical history, and lifestyle. Why Adoption Fees Matter Every animal who comes through our doors receives individualized care. Some arrive healthy and simply need vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, and a safe place to land. Others need emergency care, diagnostics, treatment for parasites or infections, dental care, behavior support, special food, foster care, or weeks to months of daily shelter care before they are ready for adoption.Your adoption fee helps support that full circle of care. Stella is a little girl only 35lbs and around 18 months so she won’t get any bigger She has the best ears and likes to be a little goofy! Dumped in the deep woods by some lowlife with another little dog, she was very lucky to be found. She’s great with other dogs, loves people, and has been around older children, she doesn’t jump up, and has an energy level of about 7/10 with a bit of couch potato thrown in too. She’s also house trained.

Clara is a 10‑month‑old, 40‑lb Plott Hound mix who truly beat the odds. She survived the shelter when her brother and sister heartbreakingly did not, and she’s determined to make her second chance count. Despite her rough start, Clara is pure sunshine — social, happy, and instantly in love with every person and dog she meets. She’s an adventurer at heart, always ready to explore, run in the yard, or proudly parade around with her favorite chew toy. Keeping busy makes her happiest. When the day winds down, Clara becomes the world’s sweetest snuggler. She’ll press her whole body against you, soaking up every bit of love she can get. Clara is vaccinated, spayed, and needs a new home immediately. A fenced‑in yard is highly recommended so she can safely enjoy the freedom she loves.
