About this Dog: Name: Jumanji Breed: Pomeranian Approximate Age:  8 yr Gender:  Male Weight:  around 10 lb Adoption Fee:  $450 Why in Rescue:  puppy mill survivor Requirements: fenced yard or secure potty area Scroll down to learn more! Please fill out the adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog if you are interested in meeting one of our dogs.  If clicking on the link doesn't work, just copy/paste into a browser to get to the application.  Jumanji came from a commercial breeder who was no longer going to use him for breeding.  He is a sweet guy becoming more comfortable with human handling everyday.  He tends to spin in circles, likely from living in a kennel for so long.  This may get better after he figures out he has more space to move around than just a kennel run.  He has been neutered and had his teeth cleaned, and is now ready to find a loving home. Dogs from commercial breeders are generally undersocialized (often scared/shy/skittish), and probably never lived in a house.  They need to learn things like how to walk on a leash, go up stairs, and what things like television is.  They will need a patient adopter who will give them the time they needs to adjust and learn to trust people.  Every baby step forward needs to be celebrated, and the dog needs to be accepted for who they are at each step.  Some dogs can adjust quickly and learn how to be a loved pet pretty easily.  Others take a long time to even be comfortable with things like walking through the house.  No matter how far and how fast the breeder dogs progress, they are wonderful dogs and deserve a great home after being used the first part of their lives for making puppies.  A fence (or at least a fenced in potty area) is highly recommended and may be required for certain dogs.  Another small dog in the house can also help many former breeders adjust faster to life in a home and may be required in some cases. If considering adopting a former breeding dog, the following article is good to read to help you understand the special needs these dogs may have.  http://nowisconsinpuppymills.com/mill-survivors.html   We do our best to evaluate the dogs while they are with us, but they sometimes act different in the shelter environment than they do in a home.  Many times we do not know the actual breed/mix or age of the dog, in that case we use our best guess as to breed and age.     The adoption procedures are listed below.  Priority is given to potential adopters who fill out the application on our website.  If a listing is on the adoption websites, we are still accepting applications.  The listing is removed once we have received a sufficient number of applications or the pet leaves the shelter.   Adoption Procedures: 1.  Completely fill out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog.  Any missing information may have us moving onto another application. 2.  If you application is approved, we will contact you to come meet the adoptables that you are interested in.   3.  If it is a match, you will complete the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee.  Please be prepared to take your adopted pet home when you come meet him/her.  In most cases, you will be able to take the pet home the same day.   4.  If you have filled out an application and we haven't contacted you within a week, we may have missed your application, the pet may have been adopted by another applicant, or you may have been missing information on your application.  You may contact us to find out the status of your application at this time.  Please give us a week to process your application before contacting us!   The adoption fee through Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue is $200 - $550 depending on the age of the dog, which includes Wi State Sales Tax.  Included in this fee is your new companion who will be spayed/neutered, have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (as required by state law), current on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested (if old enough) and started on preventative, microchipped, and given a general wormer.  Other medical needs will also have been taken care of, such as dentals and treating ear infections.  To assist you and your new pet in adjusting to life together, you may chose to take an 8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training in Mukwonago, WI for $75 (up to $230 value).  You may opt to take Puppy Kindergarten, Adult Beginners, or Small Dogs Big Hearts.  You must register for the class within 90 days of adoption for the reduced fee.  For more information on the classes visit www.forpetssake.cc All dogs are seen BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.  Bichon and Little Buddies is run by volunteers who have full time jobs in addition to the hours they spend with the rescue dogs.  Having an application on file assures us that the potential adopter is really interested in adopting a dog.  It also assists us in placing dogs in homes where both the dog and new owners are happy.  The application puts you under no obligation to adopt a dog from Bichon and Little Buddies. The Dog Pre-Adoption Application can be found at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog Thanks for thinking about adopting your new pet!More important information: ***We are a Wisconsin based rescue and do not ship our pets.  If you are considering adoption you must be willing to drive to meet and adopt the pet, as well as bring the pet back to us if the adoption doesn't work.  We adopt primarily in WI and IL, but will consider applicants in MN, IA, and MI.*** ***Please do not set up an appointment to meet the animals until you are ready to take your pet home.  If the meeting results in a match, you can often take the dog/cat home the same day or within a couple days if the medical care hasn't been completed.  We are not able to hold pets for adopters beyond this time.  Thanks for understanding.*** ***While we hope all of our adoptions lead to permanent homes for the animals we place, sometimes things just don't work out.  We do have a 30 day trial period.  For the first 30 days, if you or Bichon and Little Buddies decide that the adoption isn't a good match for either the humans or the pet, the adoption fee will be refunded minus $75 within 30 days of the return of the dog.  Bichon and Little Buddies also requires adopters to return the pet to us at any time that they are unable or unwilling to care for the animal anymore.*** ***We do not show dogs without an appointment.  The first step in adoption is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  Please do not call/email until AFTER you have filled out an application.*** Bichon and Little Buddies is a State Licensed Rescue # 268555-DS May 11, 2024, 7:56 pm

Story
This little guy was found living in a garage with his companion on Southside of Milwaukee, underweight, filthy and matted. Our vet thinks he is about one year old. Initially, Fluff may bark and growl at first but this is due to being very fearful of most people. Once he is comfortable and knows he is safe, he warms up rather quickly. Fluffers is very affectionate and cuddly once you gain his trust, and considering his past it's quite understandable that it may take a bit. He has the energy of a puppy and loves to be taken on walks and does pretty well on a leash considering he probably has never been on one. He also loves car rides and sits perfectly in the car without a peep. Fluff loves to be brushed and pampered. Still needs work on potty training but does great once he gets on a schedule. Fluff will be a faithful pal and loves to follow his trusted human and stays pretty close by.

Story
Bree is being fostered in NJ. Her name is Bree but you could also call her Little Miss Perfect! Bree adjusted to her foster home with no problem and immediately found her way around and knew how to get our attention when she needs to go outside. She has the playfulness of a puppy - if you bring Bree into your family, have plenty of squeaky toys on hand. She loves to destroy them! Bree is also happy to sit on your lap or next to you as you relax. She enjoys "watching" TV and will bark if she hears a dog on the screen. She is also a good car rider. She is a well-mannered little girl who knows her manners, like to sit when receiving a treat. And she does expect a treat when she comes back inside from going potty. Bree mostly sleeps in her own dog bed at night, but will sometimes want to sleep in the bed next to someone. Since going blind, she can be reactive when another dog invades her space, or even if Bree invades their space. We've had a few spats but everyone has come out unharmed. It is best to feed Bree in her own space. Even though Bree is a senior dog, she has plenty of playful years ahead of her and will be a joy to any family who adopts her. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Meet Freddy! Freddy (short for Mr. Frederickson) is a handsome, senior Pomeranian gentleman weighing just under 10 pounds. It's a good thing he's petite, because his favorite thing to do is climb right in your lap and snuggle for as long as you'll pet him! He has adapted very quickly to the routine in his foster home and is incredibly eager to please. While people are his first love, Freddy is also friendly with other calm dogs of all sizes, and has looked to his foster siblings to learn where all the good napping spots and treats are. He likes his space, though, and will let a dog know if they come too far into his personal bubble while he's trying to relax. Freddy spends his days snoozing in comfy dog beds and patrolling the backyard, making sure to chase any rabbits out. He can be a little noisy while patrolling, but responds right away when you call his name. Freddy is fantastic on a leash and really enjoys his daily walks through the neighborhood. He rides well in the car and would be up for any adventures, especially if they involve pup cups! Freddy is housetrained, although since he was only recently neutered he still marks occasionally but this seems to be improving. He doesn't mind sporting a fashionable belly band in the meantime. Freddy hasn't met any cats, but he is a friendly guy and would likely be fine. He has been great with the children he's met, although he startles at loud noises and sudden movements so living with older children would likely be best for him. The ideal home for Freddy would be either just him (so he can soak up all the love and attention!) or with one or two calm dogs, and with people who are ready for a lot of cuddles. This cheerful, loyal boy can't wait to meet you! *Freddy is being fostered in Madison, WI. Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs. Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and then a meet and greet with the dog. Adoption fee is $300, ($550 for a pair). Story
Hi folks! My name is Steve! I’m just 1-1/2 years old, I weigh about 15 pounds, and my foster mom thinks I might be a mix of long-haired Chihuahua with a dash of Pomeranian thrown in for good measure. Like many Chihuahuas, I get very attached to my "person" but am skeptical of strangers--which makes me a great watchdog! I like to play with little dogs like myself but am afraid of bigger dogs, so a playmate about my size would be the best match for me. I am full of fun and energy--but I also love to sleep quietly on my foster mom’s lap. I would enjoy a big safely fenced yard (no invisible fencing, please) and would prefer not to be a latchkey dog, so an adopter who works out of his/her home, is retired, or just works part time would be the best fit for me. My adoption fee is $300. If you think we would be a good match for each other, please send a letter to my foster mom at: sylvialovesme@gmail.com and tell her why you think you would be a good fit for me. If she agrees, she can send you an adoption application and then we can plan to do a "meet-and-greet".
