Story
Hi, I’m Tater Tot! My foster mom calls be Tater. I still haven’t acknowledged this name but I’m a work in progress. I’m 2 years old and am a Chihuahua Pug mix. I weigh 12 pounds. I was abandoned in a car lot in a crate with 2 other dogs, so I’m pretty scrappy. I’m still learning doggy manners and boundaries but I’m very food motivated so I can be taught pretty much anything. I learned the doggy door in 2 days! My foster mom says I’m goofy, whatever that means. I love to play and like to be by my people at all times. It takes a bit to warm up to people, but once I get to know you, I’m completely devoted to you. I need to find a home where my people are willing to invest some time in me to help me become the best I can be.

Or, how about these Pugs in cities near Mesa, Arizona

Story
Kingman is a 3-year-old, 22-pound Pug blend with a charming personality and an adorable face that's sure to make you smile. Having recently joined Friends for Life, he's ready to leave shelter life behind and find the loving forever home he deserves. This handsome guy is still learning that leashes aren't something to worry about—they're the beginning of walks, adventures, and quality time with his favorite people. He'll benefit from a patient family willing to help build his confidence, and we think a harness will make those lessons much more comfortable and enjoyable.Kingman has already done well meeting other dogs, so he may enjoy having a canine companion, provided introductions are done thoughtfully. With a little guidance, encouragement, and plenty of love, Kingman is sure to blossom into a wonderful companion. If you're looking for a sweet, sturdy little sidekick who's ready to discover how great life can be, Kingman may be the perfect addition to your family. To get started in the process of meeting Kingman, please visit https://azfriends.org/testing/adopt.html to complete an adoption consultation form, and then come by the Adoption Center to meet with one of our adoption counselors. No appointments are necessary and you can come and see us any time we are open. Please go to our website (www.azfriends.org) to fill out a consultation form then come and see us! We do require any family interested in meeting our dogs or cats to fill out a consultation form – this form helps us determine if the dog/cat and the home are a good match, since it is so easy to fall in love with a photo, without knowing the personality of the animal. Once you have filled out the online Adoption Consultation Form, just come in and see us (or come and see us and fill out the consultation form upon arrival)! Please note that ALL dogs and cats are available to the first home that meets the dog or cat that we feel is a good match. In the event there is more than one home interested in the same animal, a lottery may be held that will include all families that are at our adoption center at the time we open the day the animal becomes available. In order to help make the best match, we do want all family members (dogs and humans) to meet any potential new family member. Our adoption center hours are: Closed Sunday/Monday; Tuesday 10a-2p, Wednesday 3p-7p, Thursday 3p-7p, Friday 10a-2p, Saturday 10a-4p. We are located at 952 W Melody Avenue in Gilbert (zip code 85233).All animals are altered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, licensed (dogs). Cats tested for FELV/FIV. Dogs tested for Heartworm. All animals are available to the first family that is a good match, and if we have more than one animal who is a good match, there will be a lottery for all matches. Note that families must have come in to our adoption center and spoken with an adoption counselor prior to any lottery (when we have lotteries, they usually occur on Saturday mornings).

Story
Graham is a charming 3-year-old Pug mix weighing 16 pounds who is ready to bring fun, laughter, and plenty of personality to his forever home! Having recently arrived from a county shelter, this happy little guy is excited to start his next chapter with a family of his own.Graham is an active, playful pup who absolutely loves toys—especially squeaky ones! He can happily entertain himself with a toy but would much rather have a person join in on the fun. When playtime gets especially exciting, Graham can get a little carried away and may become mouthy, though he does so gently and without pressure. Like many enthusiastic young dogs, he's still learning how to channel all that excitement appropriately. This busy boy enjoys staying engaged and would thrive in a home that can provide plenty of playtime, exercise, and enrichment. He may need a refresher on housetraining, so a consistent schedule and routine will help set him up for success. When meeting other dogs, Graham can be a bit cautious at first, preferring to take his time before deciding if he'd like to make a new friend. If you're looking for a playful, entertaining companion with a big personality packed into a small package, Graham may be the perfect fit. Come meet this lovable little guy and see if he's the missing piece of your family! To get started in the process of meeting Graham, please visit https://azfriends.org/testing/adopt.html to complete an adoption consultation form, and then come by the Adoption Center to meet with one of our adoption counselors. Shane is a 1½-year-old, 19-pound Pug blend with a playful spirit, a happy personality, and plenty of love to share! Having recently joined Friends for Life, this fun-loving young guy is ready to find a forever family that will embrace his enthusiasm for life. One of Shane's favorite things? Other dogs! He absolutely lights up when he has a canine playmate and loves to romp and wrestle. Because he's such an energetic youngster, he'd likely be happiest with another playful dog who enjoys an active play style. More mature or low-key dogs may find his excitement a bit overwhelming.Shane is also a big fan of squeaky toys and is always ready for a game. He's full of puppy-like energy and will keep you smiling with his playful antics.Like many dogs who are still discovering the world, Shane is learning that leashes lead to all kinds of fun adventures. He currently feels more confident off leash in a secure area, so he'll benefit from a patient family willing to help him build positive associations with walks through gentle encouragement and reward-based training. If you're looking for a cheerful, active companion who loves to play, make you laugh, and fill your days with fun, Shane may be the perfect match. He's just waiting for someone to choose him so he can show them what a wonderful best friend he can be!To get started in the process of meeting Shane, please visit https://azfriends.org/testing/adopt.html to complete an adoption consultation form, and then come by the Adoption Center to meet with one of our adoption counselors. Story
Hi, I'm Baxter. The Guy Who Somehow Turned Being a Stray Into a Personality Trait. Life has been a bit of an adventure so far. I was originally found as a stray in Kern County, California, and from there I started what can only be described as a very unnecessary road trip. I was transferred to Los Angeles, eventually made my way to Arizona, and finally landed with my foster family in Tucson. Nobody knows exactly what happened before I was rescued, but whatever my story was before, it clearly prepared me to handle change pretty well. Since arriving in rescue, I've settled into foster life like I've been doing it forever. I sailed through my neuter surgery, have shown no signs of any medical issues, and every day I become a little more convinced that the couch was invented specifically for me. Equal Parts Athlete and Professional Cuddler If you ask my foster family what I spend most of my time doing, the answer depends entirely on what time of day you ask. Some days I'm flying through the house at full speed with a toy in my mouth, launching myself over furniture like I'm auditioning for an action movie. Other times I'm completely convinced that my purpose in life is to be attached to a human at all times. I love to play, I love to wrestle with my toys, and I especially love anything that involves a game of fetch. Once I've burned through my energy, though, I'm perfectly happy to curl up next to my people and spend the rest of the evening supervising whatever they're doing. A Man of Routine One thing you'll quickly learn about me is that I take my schedule seriously. Every morning starts with a sprint outside to handle business, followed by an immediate return to the kitchen for breakfast. Once breakfast is secured, I head right back outside again just to make sure the yard is still there. It's an efficient system that I've spent a lot of time perfecting. I am also extremely food motivated, which means training me is pretty straightforward. The downside is that if you're taking too long to pour my breakfast, there's a good chance I'll try to assist. My foster family has accidentally poured kibble directly onto my head more than once because I insist on being involved in the process. The Little Things That Make Me... Me I have a few quirks that my foster family finds endlessly entertaining. For example, I absolutely love slippers, but only if they're attached to someone's foot. A slipper sitting on the floor is completely uninteresting. A slipper attached to a moving human suddenly becomes the greatest toy ever created. I also enjoy licking ears and toes, which apparently isn't something every dog does, although I personally think everyone is overreacting. Then there's my famous "froggy stance." If you scratch the middle of my ribs while I'm standing, my legs spread out and I strike a pose that has caused more laughter in my foster home than I care to admit. They've spent weeks trying to capture it on camera, and somehow every attempt has failed. Sleep Is a Full-Body Experience When bedtime rolls around, I become one of the least dignified creatures on the planet. Most dogs curl up in a nice neat little ball. I sleep completely upside down with all four legs pointing in different directions like someone assembled me without reading the instructions. It's not uncommon for my foster family to walk by and stop to make sure I'm actually alive because I look so ridiculously comfortable. The good news is that I sleep soundly and wake up ready to tackle another day of being adorable. About Other Dogs I get along with many dogs, but I also think honesty is important when you're looking for a forever family. I generally do best with dogs around my size who have easygoing personalities. Bigger dogs or dogs that are very assertive can sometimes create situations where I make less-than-stellar decisions. The best way my foster family describes it is that when another dog gives me a warning, I occasionally mistake it for the beginning of a conversation rather than the end of one. Because of that, I benefit from slow introductions, clear boundaries, and humans who are willing to help me continue building good habits. I'm not looking for conflict; sometimes I just need a little help reading the room. I need a leader and someone that will listen to the guidance of the rescue and my foster family. They do know me best! Why I Think We'd Be Great Together At the end of the day, I'm a young dog with a huge heart and an even bigger personality. I love people, I do great with kids, I'm potty trained, I listen well to my humans, and I genuinely enjoy being part of whatever is happening around me. I'm the kind of dog who will make you laugh when you least expect it, follow you from room to room just because I want to be near you, and then fall asleep upside down on your couch like I pay the mortgage. My life started with a few detours, but I think I've finally reached the part of the story where I find my family. I'm looking for people who appreciate a dog with character, a little bit of sass, and a whole lot of love to give. If you're searching for a best friend who can keep you entertained, keep your lap warm, and occasionally remind you that slippers are never truly yours, I think we should meet. Love, Baxter I am vaccinated, microchipped and neutered, currently I am being fostered in Tucson, AZ. You can apply for me at freedomfrenchierescue.org and my adoption donation fee is $1100.00.

Story
Meet Phineas & Ferb – The Dynamic Duo You Didn’t Know You Needed Hi! We’re Phineas and Ferb, two low-riding exotic bully brothers looking for one forever home. Yep, we’re a package deal, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m Phineas, the older brother, estimated to be around 4–5 years old. I’m Ferb, the younger brother, estimated to be around 3 years old. People call us goofy, but we’d rather think of ourselves as smart and smarter. We spend our days wagging our tails, avoiding drama, hanging out with our dog friends, collecting toys, going for walks, soaking up the sunshine, and dreaming about the family we’ll never have to leave. Brothers Before Everything Our story began at the Los Angeles Animal Shelter after we were surrendered. The rescue only had enough room to bring one of us home that first day, but they promised they would come back for the other the very next morning. That first evening, Ferb wouldn’t move. He didn’t want to explore the yard or even go potty. He just sat quietly, staring into the distance while Mo sat beside him without saying much, giving him the space he needed. As she watched him, a single tear slowly rolled through the wrinkles on his face and fell to the ground. She gently told him, “We’re coming back for your brother tomorrow. Please don’t worry.” The next day, they kept that promise. When they arrived with Phineas, they purposely left him in his crate and brought Ferb around first. The second Ferb realized who was inside, he knew instantly. If you haven’t watched our reunion reel, we highly recommend it because it says more than words ever could. Ferb couldn’t wait to get his brother out of that crate so he could cover him in kisses and welcome him back. That reunion reminded everyone that we weren’t simply two dogs who came from the same shelter—we were brothers who belonged together. Different Personalities, One Incredible Team Even though we’re brothers, our personalities are a little different. Phineas is confident, curious, and completely obsessed with toys. Give him a ball, a stuffed toy, or just about anything he can carry around, and he’s perfectly content entertaining himself. Ferb is the quieter, more thoughtful brother. He likes to make sure everyone is okay, especially Phineas. As he’s become more comfortable in foster care, his confidence has grown tremendously, and his playful personality shines a little brighter every day. The longer we’ve been together in foster care, the more obvious our bond has become. Phineas now lets Ferb take toys from him, something that didn’t happen in the beginning. We check on each other throughout the day, and it’s not uncommon to find us choosing the same crate just so we can nap together, even when other crates are available. Being brothers is simply our favorite thing. Our Second Chance When we arrived at the rescue, we were severely underweight and medically neglected. Getting healthy has taken time, patience, and consistency, but every week we’re looking and feeling better. We each eat 2½ cups of food every day—2 cups in the morning and another half cup in the afternoon—and we’re finally starting to fill out. Ferb’s fur has grown back beautifully on his tail and the small patch on his leg. Phineas has had a more stubborn road to recovery. He developed a fungal skin infection on the backs of his legs that required several weeks of antibiotics along with simple daily cleaning using antibacterial soap and water. Regular baths and consistency have made a huge difference, and his skin continues to improve. His ears are still working on growing their fur back, but healing takes time, and we’re in no rush. Life Is Better With Toys If there is one thing everyone should know about us, it’s that we absolutely love toys. Phineas is especially enthusiastic. Balls are his favorite, but he’ll happily play with just about anything. He proudly carries his toys everywhere, tosses them around the yard, and even suckles on them until they’re soaking wet with slobber. Because he enjoys his toys so much, his future family will need to keep an eye on them. He’s swallowed pieces before, and thankfully everything passed safely, but durable toys and supervision will always be important. Ferb wasn’t very interested in toys when he first arrived. Looking back, it’s hard not to wonder if he simply never had the chance to enjoy them before. Today, he happily joins his brother running around the yard collecting toys, and he especially enjoys cooling off in the baby pool or standing in the sprinkler on warm days. Still Learning Every Day We’re both doing really well with potty training. Phineas no longer has accidents in his crate, which has been a huge accomplishment. Ferb is doing wonderfully too, but he thrives on routine. As long as he’s given regular potty breaks and has time to adjust to your schedule, he continues to improve every day. We should also confess one habit we’re still working on. Sometimes we snack on poop. It’s not exactly something we’re proud of, but after spending much of our lives confined to crates while being underfed, old survival habits don’t disappear overnight. Thankfully, those habits continue to fade as we learn that food arrives every single day and we’ll never have to wonder where our next meal is coming from again. More Than Our Breed People hear the words “Exotic Bully” and immediately make assumptions about us, but we hope you’ll get to know us before making any judgments. We’re gentle, affectionate, incredibly social, and happiest when we’re surrounded by people and other dogs. We aren’t interested in conflict or proving anything to anyone. We’d much rather spend our days playing with toys, going for walks, lounging around the house, soaking up the sun, and cuddling with the people we love. Looking for the Family That Says “Yes” to Both of Us We know asking someone to adopt two dogs instead of one is a big request, but after everything we’ve experienced together, we simply can’t imagine life apart. We’ve already lost enough. We don’t want to lose each other too. The right family is out there, and we’ll patiently wait for them because we know they’re worth waiting for. They won’t just be adopting two dogs—they’ll be preserving a bond that’s impossible to put into words. They’ll get twice the laughter, twice the personalities, twice the cuddles, and the privilege of watching two brothers continue growing old together. If you’re looking for two happy, goofy boys who love people, adore other dogs, live for toys, appreciate a good nap, and will make you smile every single day, we think we’d make a pretty incredible addition to your family. We can’t wait to meet you. Love, Phineas & Ferb Both boys are neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, they are being fostered in Mesa, AZ. You can apply for them at freedomfrenchierescue.org, their adoption donation fee is $1050.00 each.
