This adorable little girl weighs a very hefty 19 pounds and is looking for a caring family committed to helping her reach a healthier weight. Dolly Rae is a tiny pug with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Estimated to be around 10 years old, she came to us from Contra Costa Animal Services after being found as a stray alongside another pug. When she struggled in the shelter kennel environment, we were asked to step in and give this sweet senior a chance. With the sassiest little grumpy-old-lady face, we fell in love immediately. It's clear Dolly has had a rough life. She's had multiple litters of puppies, her coat was ravaged by fleas, and she had severe dental disease. During her vet exam, we also discovered significant muscle atrophy in her face, likely from an untreated infection in her past. Her jaw can barely open, which made her dental and anesthesia more challenging, but our vet safely did what he could for her. Despite everything she's been through, Dolly is incredibly sweet, trusting, curious, and full of personality. She loves people and seems to believe everyone she meets is simply a friend she hasn't met yet. She's snuggly, funny, easygoing, and has quickly settled into home life. Don't let those little legs fool you. Dolly is a fantastic walker! She loves getting out to explore and sniff all the smells, and once she gets going, she turns into quite the speed walker. She's also a great car rider, although she would prefer the driver's lap. Dolly is food motivated, loves treats, watermelon, blackberries, and especially peanut butter. She isn't much of a barker, does well around other dogs, and takes most things in stride. She does have some weakness in her back legs and can't jump onto furniture, so stairs or a lift from her person will help. Regular walks are already helping her get stronger. After everything Dolly has endured, watching her discover that life can be pretty good is incredibly special. She deserves a soft place to land, a family who will cherish her, and all the love she should have had from the beginning. Kiki is a busy little girl who wants to be involved in everything, especially whatever is happening in the kitchen. She loves stuffy toys, sniffing around, and keeping tabs on her people. She also loves kids and has been friendly with pretty much everyone she has met so far. Kiki is a great little sleeper and settles nicely into her kennel at night. She has also done well staying kenneled when her foster family leaves to run errands. She is still working on her potty training and seems to be more accustomed to using potty pads indoors, so her foster family is helping her learn that outside is the place to go. She has some typical female pug energy and is still learning to get along with her foster sister, but she gets along well with her foster brother. At around 2 to 3 years old, Kiki is a fun, affectionate girl who is continuing to learn and settle into her new life. Kiki came to us as an owner surrender and is being fostered in Woodland, CA. She is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped.
