Story
Bodie is a sweet, energetic pug with a big personality. He gets so excited when he gets attention that he can't help but tell you all about it. He's playful, curious, loves being around other dogs, and is already starting to discover just how nice it is to have people looking out for him. He loves playing with toys and bones and will jump on the couch for a nice nap. He loves walks and does well on a leash and dog parks are amazingly fun. He is potty trained to a dog door now as well.
We estimate Bodie is 4-6 years old. He came to us from Oakland Animal Services after being found as a stray, and while we don't know much about his past, we suspect he hasn't had much positive human interaction. Some of his teeth are unusually short, which our vet believes may be from chewing on a cage or enclosure. He's also a little jumpy, fearful at the vet so may need some sedation for vet appointments which isn't uncommon.
Bodie has learned that humans are much nicer than those he knew in the past. He will let you pet him, carry him and touch his face which scared him at first. At our recent Oakland pug meetup, he did wonderfully mingling with dozens of pugs, and we loved seeing how much confidence he gained simply from being around friendly people and dogs. While he was fine around children at the park and at another adoption event, we would recommend older kids since we don't know his past traumas.
This sweet guy has come a long way from living in a cage to being in a loving foster home and will continue to flourish in his forever home we are sure.
It's hard to know what Bodie experienced before rescue, but some of his behaviors suggest that life may not have always been kind to him. He can be anxious about what's happening around him, and all of this sudden attention, affection, new people, and new experiences are a lot to process. We think there's a very sweet, loving dog underneath that uncertainty, and he just needs time to realize that this good life isn't going anywhere.
Bodie is looking for someone who will meet him where he is and give him the patience and stability to build trust at his own pace. He's high energy and would likely love having another confident, friendly dog in the home to show him the ropes. We'd especially love a home where his people are around most of the time or can bring him along for adventures. He deserves the chance to finally learn what it feels like to be safe, wanted, and cared for.
