Story
Maggie was previously a friend's dog, who needed to be rehomed when her young child turned out to be allergic. Maggie stayed with her first family from 13 weeks old to just shy of 9 years old. We were told that she was a very nervous dog. She's been with us for about 10 months and we have realized she needs a family with more training and behavior experience. When extremely nervous, she has bitten. Also when nervous she tends to have small accidents (pooping and peeing). She likes to be pet on her terms, and can get nervous if someone tries to pet her too quickly. Also if she thinks she's in any trouble, she tends to get really nervous and evasive. She would likely do best in a quiet house, although she does like kids. She does well with other dogs and cats and seems most nervous around men. She does like to cuddle on her terms and enjoys chewing on bones. She can follow basic commands like sit and stay.

Story
My name is Capricorn and I am looking for my fur-ever home. Clicking on my picture is the first step in getting to know me! Potential adopters always ask a lot of questions about me. Here are the most common ones:Q: What is your back story?A: I heard that I used to live in a home with several dogs until my owner died. Luckily the volunteers at Almost Home Foundation saved me so I could have a second chance. I am currently in a foster home with two adult humans and two doggie sisters while I wait to be adopted. I am on the shy side, but with love, patience, and encouragement, I continue to gain confidence.Q: Are you housebroken and crate-trained?A: Yes to both! In fact, I love my crate. It’s my own little den where I feel safe and comfortable. Q: Are you good with dogs, cats, or kids?A: I am dog-friendly. I am timid so children would be too scary for me. It’s okay if they visit once in a while as long as I have a quiet place away from all the activity. I am not sure how I would be with cats.Q: Do you chew furniture, etc.?A: Nope. Not at all. I spend most of my day curled up in my doggie bed under a blanket. I’m so quiet that you hardly know I’m there!Q: Can you be left home alone?A: Yes! Just put me in my crate with a Kong toy and a blanket and I’m a happy camper.Q: Do you need a fenced-in yard?A: Yes. I do not potty on a leash so I will need a secure fenced yard for potty-time. It doesn`t need to be a big yard, just a secure one. Besides, I LOVE running around the backyard and having fun!Q: What is your ideal forever home?A: In terms of a forever home, I need someone with lots of love and patience to help me learn to trust. I am not a social butterfly or cuddle-bug that wants to meet everyone. An overly busy home with lots of people coming-and-going would be overwhelming. Q: Anything else we should know?A: I am up-to-date on shots, micro-chipped, heartworm negative, neutered, and in overall good health. I weigh about 15 pounds. Oh, and I LOVE cheese!Do you have room in your heart and home for me? If so, email dogs@almosthomefoundation.org to get in touch with my foster parents.Adoption fee is $360Email: dogs@almosthomefoundation.orgAlmost Home Foundation`s adoption requirements:(1) Be at least 21 years of age;(2) Have the consent of all adults living in the household;(3) Have approval from the residence o

Story
Hi I’m Jade! I am approximately 3 months old, female, and about 18 pounds (I am the biggest puppy in my litter). I came to Illinois from Texas with my siblings. I have been staying at a foster home that has a few other adult dogs and a lot of puppies! I get along with everyone. I have also met kids and do well with them. I unfortunately have not met cats so I’m unsure what I would think! I have beautiful brindle fur! My foster mom says I’m a big sweetheart. I love to sit by her feet and love when she pets me or holds me. I truly love affection! I also love to play with the other puppies and dogs at my foster home. We love to run around the yard and chase each other! I am very respectful of the other dogs though when we play. I haven’t learned to walk on a leash yet since I just recently received enough shots to go outside! I will need someone who will be patient enough to train me with the leash, potty train me, and overall just teach me how to act. I am just a puppy after all! I currently sleep quietly in a crate at night with my sister Juno. I might need to adjust to being alone in a crate but I’m sure with time I will do great! If you’re looking for a sweet girl with beautiful brindle fur, I’d be a good match for you! Our standard adoption fee is $375 if paid by cash or check, or $385 if paid by credit card (which includes a $10 processing fee). This fee covers spay/neuter surgery when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, and microchipping. In order to be considered for adoption, we require a fully completed application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with your entire family. Please note that submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval—it simply allows us to begin the review process. If you are interested in adopting or would like additional information, please email us at adopt@safehavendogsIL.org to request an application. Keep in mind that the breed and size listed in each dog's biography are our best educated guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant for any reason.

Story
Hi there, I’m Arlo! And I’m 12 weeks old! (But you can also call me “cutest little nugget ever” — I answer to that too!) I may be small, but don’t let my size fool you — I’ve got a BIG personality packed into this tiny body! I was told I’m a rat terrier, but my foster mom said I’m probably a mix of lots of breeds. Whatever I am, I can assure you that I’m a littlee bit of everything with a lot of bit of awesome. I’m a playful, wiggly ball of energy who loves zooming around, pouncing on toys, and making new friends wherever I go. (Seriously, I don’t care how big you are! Two legs or four, I love you already.) Playtime is my favorite time (okay… snuggle time is a very close second). Whether it’s a squeaky toy, a game of tug o war, or just exploring the world outside, I’m always up for an adventure. And when I’m all tuckered out? I’ll curl up in your lap like the little snuggle bug I am. I’m still a baby, so I’m learning all the important stuff — like where to potty, how to walk on a leash, and that some things are a “no-no.” I’m a really good boy in my crate, and I am super with my potty training. I use pads inside, but i prefer to go outside. Sometimes my foster mom just doesn’t get to the door fast enough. I’d love a home that’s patient, fun, and ready to help me grow into the best boy I can be (I’m pretty great already though if i do say so myself.) I get along great with other dogs, and I’d love a playful fur sibling — but I’d also be happy as your one and only as long as I get lots of love and attention. I haven’t met any cats yet, but I’m open to making new friends! I also love all the humans of all ages in my home, especially the 4 year old. So… what do you think? Are you looking for a tiny best friend with a huge heart and a love for life? Because if you are, I’m pretty sure we’re meant to be! Can’t wait to meet you — Love, Arlo Our standard adoption fee is $375 if paid by cash or check, or $385 if paid by credit card (which includes a $10 processing fee).
