Story
Being blind brings Guinness lots of attention and sympathy, which he accepts gracefully. His calm, stoic demeanor suggests that he has been living with this for quite some time. Since he is also hearing impaired (he can detect sounds but has a hard time distinguishing what they mean or where they're coming from), he approaches life with a slow, methodical pace. He is delighted when newcomers are in the house... he will sniff them out then greet them with sweet tail wags and maybe even a tiny kiss.Guinness doesn't play with toys but he'll chew bully sticks and he seems to enjoy an occasional leisurely walk around the neighborhood. Having recently gotten over a bout of coccidia, which stole his appetite and caused an alarming weight loss, he is back up to 12 lbs., on his way to a healthy 13 or 14. Overall he is now in great health and, at 9 years-old, still has many years ahead of him. He is hoping to spend those years being part of a caring, relaxed family where he gets lots of opportunity for cuddling and snoozing. In return, you get a gentle, quiet fellow who has excellent house manners and reliable house-training -- as long as you take him out on a regular schedule. Guinness gets along well with other dogs, provided they're gentle and respectful. He would undoubtedly do fine with cats, too. He'd love a one-level home because, although he will brave going UP a short flight of stairs, he finds going down quite challenging and needs a lift. Since he is not an escape risk and doesn't chase prey, he would be a fine candidate for a home without a fenced yard, provided he is always accompanied. If you're looking for a low-key, undemanding, predictable companion who will always be ready for a cuddle, check out Guinness's photo album at http://imageevent.com/beales/fosters/Guinness .
