I adopted Nate as a puppy from the humane society when I was in college. He was just two months old at the time, now 13 years old, and has always lived with me since as his primary owner. Sometime when he was a few years old, he was mistreated by apartment maintenance personnel that changed his temperament towards new people. Although not aggressive, he is skeptical of new faces in his home environment and takes time to warm up to people. He has transitioned to being an outdoor dog, but I can see that it is very hard on him in his old age. I am hoping to find a loving home for him where he can have regular companionship again and comfort.

Meet Penny! She is a very sweet dog who loves to run and play with her dog friends! She also loves dog toys and will even play ball by herself. She takes a bit to warm up to people. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She just prefers dogs over people. She will need to be in a home with a pack of dogs so she can live her best life! She does well with kids, cats, chickens, and (of course) dogs. She doesn't chase cats or chickens. She is house trained and doesn't chew things up. When first meeting people, she is a little skittish. It is important to let her set the pace. She will need someone with patience who understands that she is more of a pack dog than a people dog.March 10, 2026, 1:06 pm

Hi all, I’m Pumpkin! I’m a 2-year-old pup with a heart even bigger than my big ol’ noggin! I’m a classic Velcro Dog, and my number one goal in life is to be wherever my people are. I’m happy to follow you out into the yard for a game of Catch (we’re working on Fetch), and you will absolutely adore my butt-scoot zoomies—where my back end tries to outrun my front! Just as easily, I’ll happily curl up with my person for a lazy afternoon. I make an excellent work-from-home buddy and am a big fan of couch time.I can be a little wary of strangers at first, and I’ll let you know it with a bark that *sounds* very serious—but don’t be fooled. With a little time, patience, and love, you’ll discover that under my big, scary-sounding facade is a sensitive sweetheart who just wants to feel safe and loved.I need to be the **ONLY pet** in your home, but let’s be real: I’m a princess who wants and deserves all of your attention. I’d do great with a yard to get my occasional zoomies out, but since I’m a diva, I’m not interested in dog parks or hanging out with other dogs. I also might bowl over smaller people in my enthusiasm, so a home with older children would be better than one with toddlers.I’m a smart girl who takes direction and correction well, learns quickly, and is eager to please. You’ll soon recognize my signature wrinkled forehead paired with the classic “Am I a good dog?” look. And if my other signature expression is Resting Judgy Face, it’s only because every minute you’re taking pictures of me could also be spent giving me cuddles.Take me home today, and you’ll have a best friend for life. Currently, I am available for adoption. If you’re interested in meeting me, please fill out an application or call the Humane Society of Forsyth County at 770-887-6480.
