Story
All it takes is one look to understand why he was named Squish! He is true to his Shar-pei roots with his wrinkly face. He is so wrinkly that he is unfortunately dealing with entropion eye (eyelid rolls inward). He may need a small surgery to correct it, or he may grow out of it, so his new owner will need to look out for irritation and apply ointment so he is comfortable. He is worth it! Squish is lower energy than his sister (Raisin) and prefers to be lying down and sleeping when inside. But don't be fooled - he saves up his energy for potty breaks, so when he is outside with his sister and our adult dog, he is ready to play! He is more shy and timid than his sister, but once he warms up to you, be prepared for lots of nap time snuggles. He isn't going to be your adventure buddy, as being so wrinkly takes a lot of energy, but he will be your calm and loving companion. He has been sleeping well in a crate with his sister. He will need consistent potty breaks of 2-3 hours (he is still a puppy), but he knows not to potty inside if he can help it. He has been training alongside his sister and is learning what a leash is. He is food motivated when he feels safe, but in new environments, he may need to get comfortable first. Expect an adjustment period before he shows his true, adorable, sleepy, goofy personality. He would do best is a household with gentle kids who understand he is a very sleepy boy. Even though he is still a puppy and may perk up as he ages, right now it seems he is more of a home companion than a big-adventure pup. Which makes him a great calm presence if you do want to take him out around town (just maybe not a hiking buddy).

Story
Raisin is ready and eager to learn! She is a sweet puppy and has shown high intelligence! She is food motivated and has learned quickly on how to get her treat. She has been learning how to sit, come, and walk on a leash. It only takes her a few tries to understand your request. She is loves to play with the adult dog in her foster home, as well as with her brother, Squish. Raisin will do best with a family who will set aside some time to stimulate and train so she can show off how smart she is. She has been sleeping well in a crate with her brother. She will need consistent potty breaks of 2-3 hours (she is still a puppy) but she knows not to potty inside if she can help it. She is about to enter her teething phase so limiting her access and keeping so keeping an eye on her so she can be corrected if she starts chewing on something she shouldn't will set her up for success! Overall, she is a dream of a dog as she is eager to love and quick to train!

Story
Meet Origami! Origami is a very sweet, but large puppy who loves to give kisses and lounge around. It is suspected that Origami is a Shar Pei mix and she has the rolls and skin to prove it. She always wants to have her eyes on her person and is looking for constant praise and approval. Origami loves to meet new people and plays well with her foster dog siblings. She is also very good at respecting the boundaries of other dogs and knowing when playtime is over. Origami spends most of the day lounging around, but does like to go on short walks when she is motivated to do so and enjoys independent play time with her tennis ball. Her exercise to sleep ratio is 30 minutes of fun for hours of sleep. Origami is a fast learner. She is (mostly) house trained and does well when a routine is established. She is still getting comfortable in her crate and barks when she goes into the crate, but will settle in for some rest. Origami would do best in a home that embraces constant kisses and looking for a loyal companion.

Story
(DOB 10/31/2025) Due to Jia's young age, she has not been spayed yet. For this reason, we are only considering local placement (within a 1-hour drive time of Wake Forest NC).  Jia is the kind of dog who feels like she was made to be part of a big, happy family. With her gentle nature and easygoing personality, she fits right in and that includes kids, cats, other dogs (even smaller ones). She has a natural understanding of how to be soft and respectful with little ones (both human and furry!), making her a wonderful companion in a busy, love-filled home. Jia NEEDS another playful dog in the home to help her burn energy and continue building her social skills. With her affectionate nature and lively spirit, she’ll do best in an active home ready to keep up with her zest for life and provide plenty of enrichment and playtime. This smart and inquisitive girl is always ready to learn something new. Jia is a quick learner who enjoys figuring things out, and her playful curiosity keeps life fun and engaging. Whether she’s exploring her surroundings, joining in on playtime, or simply watching the world go by, she brings a bright, happy energy wherever she goes. Jia has also shown that she handles new situations like a pro. At adoption events and meet-ups, she’s calm, friendly, and well-mannered around unfamiliar animals and people alike. She takes everything in stride and is especially patient and sweet with young children, happily soaking up attention and affection. So don't wait too long because this girl is an amazing catch! At the end of the day, Jia is all about connection and she loves being around her people, getting pets, and joining in on the fun. If you’re looking for a loving, playful, and adaptable pup who will thrive in a lively household, Jia is ready to be your perfect match. As part of Jia’s $325 adoption fee, she will be spayed, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. In addition to the adoption fee, a $100 spay/neuter deposit and puppy spay/neuter agreement will also be required. The deposit will be returned once the puppy is altered. If you have questions about this sweet girl, you can email: Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org. If you wish to adopt Jia, you can complete an application online for her under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website: www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##2642329##
