Story
It is so hard on a dog when a loving owner dies. It is even harder when the relatives are coldly indifferent to whether the dog lives or dies, and can't even be bothered to take them to a shelter. Such was the case for Elmo, After his owner died unexpectedly, Elmo, another adult dog, and a young puppy were left alone in the house. A kind neighbor fed them and assumed relatives would soon come and take the dogs. The relatives came all right. They loaded a truck with anything of value, took the young puppy, and not only abandoned Elmo and his companion but left the front door wide open, even though the house was just feet from a busy road! Fortunately before either of the abandoned dogs left the house, the kind neighbor secured them and called a rescue. Elmo's companion has been adopted, but Elmo is still waiting. Elmo is the sweetest dog with the most adorably wrinkly face. He is very affectionate, and loves to give hugs and kisses, and loves to cuddle on the couch. If you are just hanging out with him, he will lean up against you, or lay down next to you and very carefully put his head on your foot just so he can be touching you. Elmo is crate trained and seems to be housetrained. He is very food motivated, but doesn't beg or steal food. He takes treats gently. He is doing very well learning his leash manners. He is good with other dogs and with children, and with training would likely be good with cats. He is a bit clumsy and a little drooly when he drinks water, but it just adds to his adorably goofy character. Elmo is a sweet boy who just wants a person or family to love him as much as he will love them. HART Homepage: https://hart90.org/ Questions About this Animal? If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail any questions to: Homeward Trails Adoption Center adoptioncenter@homewardtrails.org PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ LOCATION: Adoption Center ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Adoption Center ADOPTION FEE: Zoey is being sponsored by a generous donor which means she is FREE! Her adoption fee has been waived in hopes she can get adopted right away! **Ask me about our many adoption benefits that include free exams, pet insurance, training and other discounts! ESTIMATED WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 55 lbs, a healthy weight would be around 50 lbs KNOWN WITH DOGS: Zoey would prefer to be the only pup in your home so she can get all your love and attention. Once she has that, she doesn't see any reason to hang out with other dogs. KNOWN WITH CATS: Zoey had one cat test and did very well, the cat hissed and swatted at her and she backed away KNOWN WITH KIDS: We do not know how Zoey is with kids, though she would prefer to live with older children so they don't get their toys mixed up with hers! KNOWN CUES: Zoey is getting really good at Drop It with her toys, to better assist with games of fetch - which she loves! KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING &/OR CRATING: She is fully house-trained! KNOWN LIKES: The QUEEN of butt scratches, snuggling, toys, and napping. She enjoys fine dining of cooked chicken and wet food. She will walk with you until the road ends, and then ask if you can keep going in the opposite direction. KNOWN DISLIKES: Socks, she will eat them. She had to have gastric obstruction surgery, so keep laundry away from her. Having her paws handled. Sharing things with other dogs. Having her stuff taken away without proper warning. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Zoey – Queen of Quirks, Collector of Hearts, Absolute Icon 👑 There are dogs… and then there’s Zoey. A 9-year-old Shar Pei mix with dramatic rolls, a flair for the fabulous, and the energy of a retired lounge singer who still insists on being called “Miss Zoey.” She didn’t choose the princess life — it chose her. Zoey lived a pampered, adoring life until her beloved owner passed away, and she suddenly found herself in the shelter. Heartbroken and confused, Zoey was understandably unsure at first. But after some time (and a generous supply of booty scratches), she emerged from her royal chambers ready for the extravagance she deserves! Let’s break down this living legend: ✨ Spayed & vaccinated – Because royalty comes fully vetted. ✨ Potty trained – Obviously. Zoe would never. ✨ Walks? Yes, but don’t expect cardio. ✨ Booty scratches? Mandatory. They’re written into her imaginary prenup. ✨ Table scraps? Must be delivered by hand. No notes. ✨ Loves older people? Obsessed. She thrives in the warm energy of people who understand that life’s better at a slower pace. ✨ Rescue favorite? Has her own fan club. Zoey is full of quirks. She has opinions. She likes her snacks a certain way. She will absolutely assist with your emails by lying on your laptop. She is equal parts snuggle bug, sass machine, and nap expert. She’s not here for drama — she is the drama, but in a deeply lovable, “you’re never lonely again” kind of way. She wants all of your attention, and may not be interested in sharing it with other dogs! Her ideal home? Peaceful, loving, chicken-forward. She’d thrive with someone who enjoys the golden-hour slowness of life, a few leisurely walks a day, and possibly sharing their sandwich (willingly or not). Even at her age, Zoey loves toys, and she loves people who let her play with her toys in her space, and offer appropriate trades when Toy Time is done. Zoey has known deep love — and she’s ready to give it again. If you’re looking for a loyal, hilarious, slightly bougie best friend who’s already perfected the art of living her best life… Zoey is waiting. Story
Current Location: Sykesville, MD Meet Scully 💕 1 to 2 year-old, handsome, sweet guy. He's got a big heart and a happy-go-lucky attitude. He is a silly boy that loves to play with anyone or any thing that will play with him. Even though Scully is an adult dog he acts like a 50 lb puppy. So he will need an active family and maybe another dog to play with. He likes walks, is friendly to EVERYONE he meets, does well in public places, and love to play with toys. He is great in his crate and snores the night away inside. He is also crated during the day without issue. He has been a big brother to several puppies in his foster home and is always gentle with them. He even lets them win at tug o' war. He is best in a home with another smaller dog and with a fenced yard as he needs to run and play. We are working on him NOT jumping on people, and he can be very mouthy especially when excited. He will need consistency in training to stop these 2 behaviors. He would do best in a family with older children as he does not realize his size or strength. So if you want a "Big Boy" who will happily ride in your truck and hang out in the park or cafe with you, then adopt this sweet, trusting, ingenuous dog today. - Good with dogs, puppies and little dogs - Good with cats - Crate trained - Potty trained - Very lovable and playful - Would do best in a home with a fenced yard - Prefers smaller dogs to be friends with (bigger dogs kinda scare him...lol)

Story
Meet Danny Boy! He has a heart of gold and a real penchant for couch snuggles. Danny is built around a head of truly remarkable scrunchy proportions ~ an architectural achievement that then required the installation of two enormous satellite-dish ears to properly stabilize it. The result is an ear span so impressive it occasionally receives signals from rooms he is not currently in. And yet, for all that heavy equipment, Danny uses it almost exclusively to listen for kind words and compliments. Danny is soft, affectionate, and deeply committed to earning as many gold stars in a day as possible. He believes couches were invented for shared sitting, beds for shared sleeping, and personal space for other families who don’t live here. He loves being pet and prefers staying close to his humans. His top criteria for his forever home is that his humans be home with him most of the time and love snuggling as much as possible. Danny enjoys walks (ideally about 20-minute ones) and loves meeting new people when he's out and about. He does a happy dance complete with prancing when his foster mom takes his leash out, or when he's about to be fed. He especially loves treats and wet food. Danny is living with both another dog and a cat in his foster home. He gets along well with both of them, though he doesn't show much interest in them unless they initate sniffing or play. He also gets along beautifully with children, walks well on the leash, and is a great copilot in the car. Danny has made excellent progress on his housetraining, although he is still using potty pads some of the time. He sleeps well through the night (and a decent portion of the day!). He doesn't mind staying home if his people have to go out for a bit, but he would much rather you be home with him. Danny is currently recovering from an ear infection and exposure to some tick-borne illnesses, but treatment is fairly straightforward and both issues should soon resolve. His vision and hearing are no longer 100% but he gets around fairly well. He does have some trouble navigating stairs, so he may need a helping hand if his forever home has them. If you'd like every morning to begin with two enormous ears slowly rising over the horizon (covers) at the sound of their favorite person waking up, Danny is your man. Danny is approximately 12 years old and 60 lbs. Fostered in Dunn Loring, VA Please apply at MirisHaven.org

*Woof* Meet me at 71 Oglethorpe St NW between 12pm-7pm daily!Nate here — and we have an important date.To go home together soon… honestly, this afternoon would be great.Check out my field trip on this IG Reel! https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZApkLLTi7r/?igsh=b3BwM2Ric2FiYmdwWhen I first meet someone new, I can be just a tiny bit bashful but give me a moment and I’ll charm my way straight into your heart. I have the best tail wag in the whole doggie play yard, and I’m pretty sure I’m the cutest one there too. Just look at my adorable face and those sweet, pleading eyes — I’m impossible to resist. One volunteer even said that spending time with me was the highlight of their day. Another took me on a field trip and said: `Nate`s ail wagged all day; he liked being next to me and showed his affectionate side. I really enjoyed the time with Nate and based on our field trip he really does seem perfect!`  Do you need someone to fill your days with highlights? Then come meet this important Nate and make a date with me. I’m ready for my forever home, and I can’t wait to make you smile.

Story
IF YOU ARE VIEWING THIS LISTING ON PETFINDER OR ADOPT-A-PET, please visit www.caninesandkittiesrescue.org to access adoption requirements, more information and pictures. Meet Dash! 🐾 The puppy with the BEST BOXER LIPS! Look at those smoochie jowls! Dash is a 9-month-old bundle of fun weighing about 64 pounds—and we think he’s going to be a big boy when he’s fully grown! This playful pup definitely lives up to his name and loves to zoom around the yard, wrestle with his doggy friends, and show off his impressive toy collection. Dash is a social butterfly with other dogs and would absolutely love a playful canine sibling to romp around with (though it’s not required). After a good play session, he’s just as happy to settle in for some cuddle time with his favorite humans. Because he’s young and eager to learn, Dash will need an adopter who is home a good portion of the day to continue his training and help him grow into the best boy he can be—no exceptions. Dash would do best in a home without cats or young children, where he can safely burn off his puppy energy and keep building his manners. If you’re looking for a happy, affectionate, and playful companion who will keep you smiling (and maybe a little more active!), Dash might be your perfect match. 🐕💨 Dash is up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped and neutered. The Adoption Fee for this puppy $400.00. ***You must be at least 25 years of age to adopt from CKRescue*** ***Note that puppy adoption fees most often help generate revenue that goes towards older, special needs animals that need our help. Surgeries, heartworm treatment, boarding costs and/or all things that often result in adoptable dogs and cats being left behind to be euthanized. So, adopting a puppy saves not just one life, but many! ***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Vetting of current and past pets is very important to us, thus we will be speaking with the vet(s) listed on your application to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies), spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** Our organization cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and/or the general appearance of the animal. **Please visit www.caninesandkittiesrescue.org to complete our non-binding application.**
