This fee INCLUDES spay/neuter and microchip. **Ask me about our many adoption benefits that include free exams, pet insurance, training and other discounts! ESTIMATED WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 60 lbs, a healthy weight would be around 50 lbs KNOWN WITH DOGS: Zoey would prefer to be the only pup in your home so she can get all your love and attention. Once she has that, she doesn't see any reason to hang out with other dogs. KNOWN WITH CATS: Zoey had one cat test and did very well, the cat hissed and swatted at her and she backed away KNOWN WITH KIDS: We do not know how Zoey is with kids, though she would prefer to live with older children so they don't get their toys mixed up with hers! KNOWN CUES: Zoey would love to prove wrong the idea that you can't teach an old dog new tricks - with your help! KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING &/OR CRATING: She is fully house-trained! KNOWN LIKES: The QUEEN of butt scratches, snuggling, toys, and napping. She enjoys fine dining of cooked chicken and wet food. KNOWN DISLIKES: Socks, she will eat them. She had to have gastric obstruction surgery, so keep laundry away from her. Having her paws handled. Sharing things with other dogs. Having her stuff taken away without proper warning. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Zoey – Queen of Quirks, Collector of Hearts, Absolute Icon 👑 There are dogs… and then there’s Zoey. An 8-year-old Shar Pei mix with dramatic rolls, a flair for the fabulous, and the energy of a retired lounge singer who still insists on being called “Miss Zoey.” She didn’t choose the princess life — it chose her. Zoey lived a pampered, adoring life until her beloved owner passed away, and she suddenly found herself in the shelter. Heartbroken and confused, Zoey was understandably unsure at first. But after some time (and a generous supply of booty scratches), she emerged from her royal chambers ready for the extravagance she deserves! Let’s break down this living legend: ✨ Spayed & vaccinated – Because royalty comes fully vetted. ✨ Potty trained – Obviously. Zoe would never. ✨ Walks? Yes, but don’t expect cardio. ✨ Booty scratches? Mandatory. They’re written into her imaginary prenup. ✨ Table scraps? Must be delivered by hand. No notes. ✨ Loves older people? Obsessed. She thrives in the warm energy of people who understand that life’s better at a slower pace. ✨ Rescue favorite? Has her own fan club. Zoey is full of quirks. She has opinions. She likes her snacks a certain way. She will absolutely assist with your emails by lying on your laptop. She is equal parts snuggle bug, sass machine, and nap expert. She’s not here for drama — she is the drama, but in a deeply lovable, “you’re never lonely again” kind of way. She wants all of your attention, and may not be interested in sharing it with other dogs! Her ideal home? Peaceful, loving, chicken-forward. She’d thrive with someone who enjoys the golden-hour slowness of life, a few leisurely walks a day, and possibly sharing their sandwich (willingly or not). Even at her age, Zoey loves toys, and she loves people who let her play with her toys in her space, and offer appropriate trades when Toy Time is done. Zoey has known deep love — and she’s ready to give it again. If you’re looking for a loyal, hilarious, slightly bougie best friend who’s already perfected the art of living her best life… Zoey is waiting. HT ADOPTION INCLUSIONS: Spay/Neuter First 3 distemper series vaccines & de-wormings Microchip - lifetime with no registration fees Current on heartworm preventative Current on flea/tick preventative EXCLUSIVE ADOPTER BENEFITS: Free first exam with: Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, Jermantown Animal Hospital, Union Veterinary Clinic and Clarendon Animal Care and all VCA Animal Hospitals (VCA offers $250 coverage - details provided) Free online workshop with a professional dog trainer at Fur-Get Me Not within the first 30 days of adopting (in DC/Arlington/Alexandria only) A portion of EVERY ADOPTION fee supports spay/neuter for animals in under-resourced communities BE A FOSTER: Save a life: http://www.homewardtrails.org/foster-a-pet/dog-and-cat-foster-program.

Story
Meet Chico, a Shar-Pei mix looking for a foster, or even better, an adopter! This ham of a pup was an owner surrender because they were relocating abroad. As if this was not sad enough, Chico then faced euthanasia due to shelter overcrowding at PG County animal shelter a few weeks ago. He was saved literally a couple hours beforehand!Chico's previous family included children, and he was spoken very highly of. Chico is good with kids, other dogs AND even cats! He is approximately 5 years old and around 65-70 lbs. Chico may take some time to warm up, but once he does, he is playful and loyal! He just needs a little patience and a gentle environment.Chico has just completed board & train obedience training and is now ready for his furever home (or a foster home in the meantime)! (Now that training is over, he does still need to be neutered.) Adoption fee: $525, includes all shots, sterilized, heartworm negative, dewormed, flea preventative, microchip   If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application and a representative will get back to you shortly to answer any questions you may have. The adoption policies and applications can be found at the following links: https://fancycats.org/adopt-a-cat and https://fancycats.org/adopt-a-dog. Fosters are like bridges between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save cats and dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. Story
Our big girl Sheba has been with us since 2019. My wife and I had our first child in 2023 and I did everything the experts recommended to help our dog adjust to the new baby - immediately after our son's birth, I brought home a hospital cloth with our sons scent on it, and slowly introduced them to each other. Unfortunately, they have never gotten along. She has never bitten our son, but growls and barks every time he's near her. It's become very difficult for us to manage both her and our son. She's a sweet dog - loves to play outside and catch a ball, she's very protective and enjoys adults, and she's beautiful (we always get compliments on her when we take her for walks). We're hoping to find a safe, comfortable home for her. Bonus points for a home with a nice backyard!

DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Mira is 5-7yo, weighs 45lbs, is spayed, is up to date on her vaccines, and is microchipped.  Mira can sit and stay and guardian was working on crate training until guardian's disability occurred.  Mira roams around the house close to her guardians and is left alone at home up to 4 hours per day.  At night, Mira sleeps downstairs on the couch or one of the bedrooms.  She dislikes/fears strangers coming to the house, especially women.  Also, Mira loves car rides. Mira's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome her:  Mira's guardian is no longer able to care for her needs. Lunge/Attack Incident:  In April 2024, in Pueblo, CO, Mira lunged at the veterinarian; there was no physical contact; animal control was not involved.  Mira's guardian explains:   "No medical attention was required.  Mira can be protective of the house, and the vet was a little too quick to get in her space when she was agitated.  She lunged at the vet, but did not hurt her or anyone else." Mira's guardian offers a brief a medical history: "Entropion of the eye, corrected by surgery but might come back.  Spayed.  Vet suspects past injury to her hips as they seem stiff, but no other sign of injury." Mira's guardian states the following regarding children:  Since Mira hasn't lived with children, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with children.  Regarding how Mira responds to children outside the home, the guardian states "She treats them the same way she treats other people; curious and usually affectionate". Mira's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Since Mira has lived with dogs, her guardian recommends her living with dogs, stating "She tends to get along with dogs very well". Mira's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Since Mira hasn't lived with cats, her guardian doesn't recommend her living with cats, stating "She has shown a great interest in stray cats, but not an aggressive one.  We are unsure how she would act around a cat". Mira's guardian describes her as: Couch potato Friendly Likes to be touched Affectionate Protective Always at your side House-Trained Likes men; also likes women if properly introduced* Separation anxiety (undiagnosed by vet)** * " Mira is more likely to get protective around women, but if introduced properly she's totally fine with just about everyone.  We've found the best solution to be to walk out with Mira and meet a guest in the parking lot before coming inside.  There have been a few instances where she has still gotten protective around women, but more often than not she's totally fine.  If we do this with men she's always been okay with it.  We suspect she was abused by a woman at some point." ** "The separation anxiety has not been formally diagnosed.  She didn't used to behave like this, but after we moved she got very anxious about not being near us.  This usually takes the form of whining and scratching at doors if we are in another room. It should be something that can be trained out of her, but I don't have the ability to do so with my current situation." Mira's guardian describes her ideal future home: "A house with a fenced in yard would be ideal.  She loves to be outside and sun herself but she also tends to bolt if she doesn't have a fence.  A family that has some experience training dogs would be ideal, as they can help her be less anxious about people visiting or separation."
