I’m a local gal from Virginia on the hunt for my forever home and I’m hoping you can help. I’m very sweet and I really love people.  I'm OK with dogs in general but, okay, I'm a dominant sort of gal and would probably prefer to be the only canine in the house.  I've got some smarts too and I know the commands sit and lay down. I just want to find a place where I can feel safe and loved. Why don’t you fill out an application so we can meet and see if we click? I’d love to see your place! Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.       Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. Story
Ok, who else in the audience LOVES the JAPANESE BREEDS???? Shiba Inu, Akita???? WE LOVE THEM ALL!! So, I am what we all believe is a Shiba/Chow mix. And each of these breeds have a couple of things in common- we are clean dogs (more like cats than dogs), we are stubborn, we love our people (and are picky about people who are not them), and we are absolutely gorgeous!! So there is my personality :) I am good with other dogs, love females more than male dogs but can get along with both. I am only 45#, compact with gorgeous fur. I am so smart, so independent, so stubborn and SO LOVABLE! If you are my peeps, you will have enough love for the rest of your lives!! I am being social at the rescue, I am exposed to and cared for by quite a few different people, I just love my real peeps more!! lol If you want to meet me and adopt me, let my rescue know! Fill out the application and lets get on with our forever lives :) Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

Story
We are rehoming our 2.8-year-old cuddly, energetic, and loyal purebred Shiba Inu, Loki. Loki is neutered, crate-trained, potty-trained, leash-trained, and has knowledge of all basic obedience commands: sit, down, place, & shake. Loki is up to date with all his shots, and has a clean bill of health from his last vet visit (8/2023). Loki weighs 28lbs and is athletic and speedy. He loves to engage other dogs in games of chase at the dog park, chase after his toys in the house, or engage his sister in zoomies. He enjoys hiking and running, dog park chases, and is very affectionate - especially for a Shiba Inu. He loves to cuddle on the couch or bed, but is crate trained for sleeping if necessary. Loki lives with another 6-year-old fixed female Shiba Inu and gets along with her well. We have had him for 2 years, and love him dearly. We are looking to rehome Loki due to space and financial constraints due to the arrival of our human baby. Great with older kids and similar sized dogs.

Story
We adopted Nova in February from a College student who could no longer care for her. We have previous Shiba experience. Nova is very much a typical Shiba. She is playful, nippy at your pant legs, aloof at times, has puppy type energy and loves to play fetch with balls and stuffed toys. She loves to run in the fenced yard and has done well at dog daycare with other dogs. 6 months post adoption.. we continue to have serious dog fights - which is our primary reason for needing to rehome her. She can be territorial, is very aggressive towards treats, and is prone to snapping at you if she is sleeping, startled awake or groggy. Both my wife and I have been bitten by her when she has startled awake - left bruising and minor skin punctures. She seems to understand this was not appropriate as she has self-crated afterwards or gone to another room to be alone. She is always on edge around our other dog, and we think in an only pet home this behavior can be broken.

Story
Yoshi was surrendered to the shelter when his owner could no longer care for him due to their health, he was much loved in his previous home. He is around 2 years old and weighs about 35-40 pounds. Yoshi would do best as the only dog in the home, as he does not care for the company of other canines. He did live with cats and did okay with them in his previous home, but slow supervised introductions would be best. Yoshi is a sweet guy that loves attention and loves to chase balls! He can be on the anxious side here at the shelter but may do better with this once he is in a home environment. Yoshi has not been around young children so an age restriction for children in the home may apply, please discuss this with shelter staff. Yoshi would love to find his second chance at a loving forever home soon! He is neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped.
