Story

Astrid is the sweetest little thing! This precious girl came to us from a local animal control. She had been found as a stray in absolutely awful condition. One of the worst cases of matting we've ever seen, she was an absolute angel for grooming, even though it must have been uncomfortable. She was so happy to have all those mats and knots gone! She immediately started running about and playing with toys! Astrid loves everyone, from toddlers to adults to other animals. She LOVES being held and she'd be fine if her 4 paws never touched the ground, lol. She has the sweetest disposition and is truly an angel. She had some bad teeth, we've gotten her a dental cleaning and had 2 teeth removed. She's been fully vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped. She tested positive for Lyme disease, but is asymptomatic. She's being treated with antibiotics and we expect her to be right as rain! Being an all white dog with blue eyes, she is partially deaf and seems to have some issues with depth perception, which we would expect with that genetic combination. It does not slow her down at ALL. She is a happy go lucky princess! She does not go outside on her own, we have not gotten her to the point where she lets us know she needs to go outside. Her foster mom walks her outside and sets her in the grass and she happily goes potty outside, but you do need to be proactive and take her out. She is soft as a cloud and affectionate as can be. Astrid's adoption fee is $250. Our best estimate as that she is 6-8 years old. You can see her before photo and she's unrecognizable after grooming! The video was taken at the groomer's salon fresh after her haircut, and you can see just how happy and joyful she was to be free of all that mess!

Fluffy’s person surrendered him to our center saying they didn’t want to take care of him anymore. He’s a senior dog and needs extra care and really depended on his person to be there for him. Now, he’s completely heartbroken. Fluffy has a collapsed trachea, a grade 5 heart murmur, and an ulcer affecting his eye. His care can be managed, but he needs a special person who will see him through. He is very sweet and friendly. He can be around other dogs, ideally other seniors, or gentle canines that understand he hasn’t got a lot of desire to play.

Mochi is a 3-year-old Shih Tzu with a gentle disposition and a lot of love to give. Recently surrendered to our center, Mochi has persistent skin allergies that cause him discomfort, particularly when touched, but he remains sweet and affectionate. Despite his challenges, Mochi is a charming companion who would thrive in a patient, understanding home that can provide him with the care he needs. Ideally, he needs an adult-only home. With his previous family, Mochi shared a home with a 12-year-old. It was very stressful for him, because they wanted to touch him a lot, and didn’t understand that it was hurting his skin. We’re seeking a loving adopter who can work with a dermatologist to manage his skin issues and offer him a comfortable, happy life. Mochi deserves a second chance in a warm and welcoming home.

Alumni Super Sweet Senior, Mickey Seeking A Forever Home! Poor Mickey! Through no fault of his own he has had at least 4 homes! We found him in 2016 at a community free access shelter at the height of the canine flu! Not only was that a strike against bim but he had broken toes and was next in line to the euth room. We got him our in the nick of time. We covered his medical care. He improved, and healed and landed a lovely new Mom. Sadly Coved him and his mom passed. The family sent Mickey to live with a family friend that adored him. Sadly, his new Mom fell ill and needed to relinquish him to us. No Micky is on the hunt for a forever family that won't let him down. Mickey is a very gentle boy that loves everyone. He is pretty quiet, happy to take long naps in between wandering around the yard, sitting on a deck or taking a walk. He is also happy to nap with you and the family cat! He is quiet and always hoping yummy food might drop his way. He gets along with everyone. He was pee pad trained which might be helpful. We estimate he is 14ish.. He is a healthy fella although has had some allergy issues in the past and recovered IVDD. Mickey is fully vetted, He has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and is heartworm negative, His adoption donation is $450.00. He is on the hunt for his own completely committed family, Little Dogs can live to be 25 years old so he wants to be sure al for better or for worse! We adopt in the local Chicago metro area. Danny is sweet and adorable and looking for a great forever home! Danny was found as a stray and taken to a shelter. Both of his eyes were damaged so they were removed, he was neutered he got a dental, is up to date on shots, micro-chipped, heart-worm and fecal tested negative. He gets along fine being blind and is good with other dogs. Danny is friendly and sweet. He is about 15 years old, 13 lbs, a shih tzu, and will need regular brushing and grooming to keep his fur looking beautiful. His adoption fee has been sponsored!
