Story
This little guy is neutered and healthy! He is up to date on vaccines. He is also microchipped! 💧: Housebroken - Yes! 🏠 : Crate Training - He has done well with free roam when home alone 🚶: Leash walking - Working on it! He has only seemed comfortable when walking with his dog BFFs, and will need to keep working on his confidence! 🐶: Dog-friendly - He LOVES other dogs, and looks to them for comfort and confidence. Because of this, he is required to go to a home with another resident dog. 😺: Cat-friendly - Unknown, but he has shown interest in chasing his foster's bunny 🧒 Kid-friendly - Not a match, as he can be quite fearful of strangers and needs a slow approach Sammy is a dog's dog. He thrives in the company of other dogs and wants to do everything that they do. He is making big strides in warming up to people but is still quite nervous and prefers not to be pet. However, he is a happy little guy when he is with his dog friends and will self-entertain with toys. He is still learning about the world, and is always cautious but curious. By the end of the day he has always taken every single toy out of the toy basket. He loves to "help" with laundry and you may find your socks in some weird places. He also loves just curling up in his dog bed and laying by your feet while you're working or relaxing. He enjoys going for walks around the neighborhood with his dog besties, and/or hanging out in the backyard. 💰 Sammy's adoption fee is $300, and he will make a great addition to his future home! 🧬 This pet has not been DNA tested, we are unsure of their actual breed makeup, but these are the breeds we think they look like! 🩷 Next steps: Email adopt@onetail.org with questions, or submit an application online and we'll be in touch to schedule a meeting: https://www.onetail.org/apply-to-adopt/. Our adoption application stays on file for one year and can apply to any dog in our program. Once the app is submitted you will receive an email within 48-72 hours. Story
Cici and Blacktop are spayed, healthy and microchipped! Cici recently underwent surgery for a luxating patella and is undergoing physcial therapy. 15/10 Foundation has generously sponsored PT care for her adopter to continue! Cici and Blacktop are living in a foster home. Fill out our quick adoption survey, and then we can set up a phone call or meet and greet with the foster! 💧: Potty training- Doing well overall on a consistent routine with frequent potty breaks, but they also rely on potty pads when home alone for over 3 hours. 🏠: Crate training - Prefer to be free-roam to a doggy-proofed area as opposed to a crate. 🚶: Leash walking - Doing well overall on short jaunts, but they would likely do best with access to a fenced yard 🐶: Get along with other dogs and may enjoy having a canine companion. They would benefit from thoughtful introductions to new pals. 🐱: They haven't met a cat in our care yet, but we suspect they'd do well with a slow introduction. 🧒: Enjoys spending time with children and has demonstrated appropriate behavior around them. Would do best with gentle, respectful kids. Cici and Blacktop are the cutest pair of senior gals! They can take a little time to warm up, but when they bless you with their love, you will truly feel it. They love to be pet and receive back, ear, and belly rubs. These girls are both so loving and sweet, and cannot wait to find a devoted forever home! These pets have not been DNA tested, we are unsure of their actual breed makeup, but these are the breeds we think they look like! 💰: Cici and Blacktop’s adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous supporter! 🩷: Next steps: Email adopt@onetail.org with questions, or submit an application online and we'll be in touch to schedule a meeting: https://www.onetail.org/apply-to-adopt/. Story
Kenny is being fostered in VA. Kenny is NOT BLIND!Kenny is a friendly, lively, happy pup! Here is his story!Kenny, a 13-pound, one-year-old shih tzu (perhaps a mix), was a stray in Ohio and landed in a shelter in rough shape. The shelter reached out to the Blind Dog Rescue as they suspected a vision issue, and he came to Virginia to be fostered in late June 2026.Kenny is an alert, aware dog and he settled in quickly at his foster home where there are three other dogs. He enjoys other dogs, and is learning to be respectful when they are not interested in playing with him. He likes to tug on a rope with his foster dad and will also settle himself on the floor chewing on various toys. He has a gentle chew when he plays and has not torn apart a single toy!Kenny is housetrained (no accidents in the house yet!) and is crate trained. Sometimes when he is settling down in his indoor pen at night, he may bark for a very short while but then he falls asleep and is quiet all night, keeping his pen clean and dry. Kenny does pretty well on a leash until he sees a critter in the yard! Then he focuses in and may want to chase! :) He travels well in the car.Kenny likes eating Purina One with gravy and is not yet interested in other kinds of dog food. He also likes peanut butter, chicken jerky (he loves that!), and some small treats. He is a little hesitant when approaching his food bowl, and waits until his foster parents have moved away before he starts eating.Kenny has been to the vet several times since arriving at his foster home. He is a healthy weight. His skin was dry and flaky when he arrived but that has been steadily improving with a good diet. He had bilateral ear infections which were treated (he was not happy when the vet staff needed to clean his ears!) and now his ears are good! His bloodwork was checked, along with his urine and a fecal. Plus he was tested for heartworm disease. All testing results were good with no concerns except Kenny had Giardia which has been treated and his most recent fecal was negative. It was a surprise to find out Kenny can see well and, at this time, there are no health or vision issues with his eyes. And his teeth look great! The vet staff fell in love with Kenny.Kenny is an active pup who has a bit of an unusual gait. He has had x-rays and has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia (a congenital condition) and a left cruciate injury. He has had a Librela injection and has responded well. His gait looks more symmetrical and he has more stamina. Librela is to be given monthly. Anyone interested in adopting Kenny should speak with their vet about adopting a small dog with hip dysplasia and a left cruciate injury. We dont know Kennys history and we dont know what the future holds - and this is true for all dogs in rescue.Kenny can go up and down a few steps but should be carried up and down a full flight of steps. He has been to the groomer and did very well although was sensitive around his left leg. There is a cat at the foster home (a semi-feral cat who spends most of her time outside) and Kenny is VERY interested in the cat. When he sees the cat, he becomes hyper-focused and wants to chase her. Although Kenny is a friendly dog with people and gets along with the other dogs in the foster home, it is unknown how he would react if allowed to have close interaction with a cat. Therefore, Kenny should be adopted in a home with no cats.Kenny has not spent time with children and, although he is such a nice dog, he should be adopted in a home with older children or adults only. And he should always be supervised when he is with young children, as all dogs should be.Kenny has a long, wonderful life ahead of him. He is still a puppy so needs an adopter who understands puppies are still learning and that they need consistency, routine, rules, and lots of love. If you think you can provide the home Kenny deserves, fill out an application today!BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.
