Story
Crimson is being fostered in VA. Crimson is blind and has kidney disease. Crimson is a friendly little guy who loves belly rubs! If you would like to know more about this special pup, read on! Crimson is from Florida. His family could no longer care for him and so they turned him over to the Blind Dog Rescue Alliance. He traveled to his Virginia BDRA foster home in January 2026 and made friends all along the way. Crimson has settled into his foster home quite well! There are four other blind dogs in the home and Crimson gets along just fine with each of them. He is happy to share a bed and doesn’t mind if a dog bumps into him. He ignores the family cat. At night, he settles easily into his bed and sleeps through the night. He is housetrained – not a single accident yet! He has a deep bark and, when he first arrived, he barked fairly often but now that he is learning the routine, he barks only occasionally (usually when anticipating a meal!). As mentioned, he loves belly rubs and he enjoys head rubs too. He also likes toys. Crimson is blind, diagnosed with SARDS several years ago. SARDS (Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome) is a condition that causes rapid and irreversible blindness due to changes within the retina. In addition, he arrived at his foster home with ear infections that are in the process of being treated. He hears well though and he doesn’t let his blindness bother him at all. His eyes are currently healthy although he does have some clear discharge at times. Crimson also has been diagnosed with kidney disease/kidney failure along with high blood pressure. He is on a prescription kidney diet (Purina) and also on Benazepril twice a day. We don’t know all the details about Crimson’s medical history before he arrived at his foster home and – as is true with any rescue dog – we can’t predict what the future holds for his health. Anyone interested in adopting Crimson should first speak with their vet about canine kidney disease so there is an understanding of this disease, its progression, and how it is treated. Crimson has not spent time with children and, although he is such a nice dog, he should be adopted into a home with older children or adults only. And he should always be supervised when he is with young children, as all dogs should be. If you think you can provide this sweet, gentle dog the wonderful forever home he deserves, complete an application today! BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Grace is a sweet dog who will make a good companion. Grace came to us via animal control. She had been left in a box and found in the alley on a hot summer day. Grace was matted, emaciated and in rough shape. When we brought her in from animal control she was unable to walk. As it turned out, her inability to walk was not due to physical impairment but from plain weakness, hunger and condition. She had been nearly starved to death and left to die like trash in the alley, We spent the next couple of months getting her weight stable and body condition back to normal. Because she had been starved she did guard her food. That has disappeared but to be safe we do not want to place her with young children, Grace enjoys other dogs to play with and is fine with cats. Grace loves to be outside in the yard. She thinks she is the protector of her domain and is a bit of a barker when people pass her view at the gate or down the alley. She can be stubborn and not come in when called. She will benefit from dog training. Like all dogs , she will need structure and a patient, loving home. We recommend training for all dogs —not only to give Grace important learning skills, but because you and your dog will create a stronger bond just by going through the training together. Grace is fully vetted. She has been spayed, received age-appropriate vaccines, and is microchipped. Subsequent vaccines will be at the expense of her adopter. Her adoption donation is $..600.00. She is on the hunt for her own completely committed family. Little dogs can live to be 20+ years old, so Grace wants to be sure her family is all in for better or for worse! IF INTERESTED IN A PUPPY (UNDER 9 MONTHS): You must have a flexible work schedule or someone home all day. Puppies need to be let out to potty often. They need socialization, bonding, and training (housetraining and behavioral training). If you work long hours, have a busy social schedule, or are not financially secure, then a puppy is not for you. We adopt in the local Chicago metro area. We require home visits. Story
Genevieve is a girl who was burdened with a rough start in life. She was removed from an unsanitary hoarding environment with 4 other dogs who were all matted, terrified, unsocialized, and in overall terrible condition. Since joining the CRA family, the rest of the dogs she arrived with have all been adopted and are thriving in forever-families, but Gen is still waiting. She has been with us since July. She is hesitant when meeting new people and her uncertainty makes it hard to immediately see the huge personality hiding beneath the surface. Once she bonds with someone, she is loyal, full of love and energy, and downright comical. She bounces like a bunny, prancing around your feet and smiling like a goofball. She has since learned that people can be kind and she loves to cuddle or be near by. She is also an excellent splooter. We are currently working through a bit of separation anxiety. She had no foundational skills when she came to us but has continued to make improvements. She has made many dog friends during her time with us and we think she might do best in a home with another dog at this time. Another dog would help her gain confidence and trust in her forever home, learn routine and more. Gen is being fostered currently in Chicago and has an open adoption radius. This means that she is accepting adoption applications outside of our typical radius, however, the adopter has to travel to Chicago to meet and finalize the adoption. Gen's adoption fee includes her spay, up to date vaccines and prevention (flea, tick and heart worm), heart worm negative, and microchip. If you are interested in being considered a forever home for her, please apply directly.

If you would like to apply to be considered as an adoption candidate for Cindy Lou, please fill out an application for her adoption on our website at: https://www.rescuetailsanimalwelfare.org/info/adoption. The first step in the process is to complete an application. We are all volunteers with full-time jobs. We try to get back to all applicants within 72 hours. We are an in home foster group. We are not a brick and mortar,. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at: RescueTailsAnimalWelfare@gmail.com. If you aren’t looking to adopt but still would like to help Cindy Lou , please consider a donation for her food, housing, and veterinary care.
