Story
Say Hello to Archie, a wonderful 1 1/2-year-old pup currently searching for his very unique forever family.Archie is a special needs dog who is visually impaired; he has no sight in one eye and very limited sight in the other. However, he has successfully navigated his world since birth, and his limited vision hasn't slowed him down one bit. While he may bark if he is unsure of where his person is, a soft voice and a moment in your arms helps him orient himself.Archie is incredibly playful and loves to run in the yard once he is familiar with the perimeter. Because of this, a fenced yard is a requirement for his new home. Once he finds your lap, he is a world-class cuddler who is generous with his kisses and loves to be caressed. He currently enjoys playing with his foster dog and loves to shake his soft toys to entice others to chase him.Archie has proven he would be excellent at blind dog agility classes, as he is always up for an adventure. He would do best in a focused and determined household with children aged 10 years and older. Are you Archie's forever home?(An adoption fee of $500 is required.) If you are interested in this dog, please go to the Adopt page of our website where you will find a link to an adoption application form. https://www.chewdogrescue.org/adoptIf you have previously submitted an application form to CHEW, there is no need to reapply. Just let us know you're interested in this dog. We do our best to match families and dogs so everyone is pleased and the placement is permanent. We reserve the right to refuse an applicant if the home situation is incompatible with the needs of the rescue dog. Rescue is about doing our best for the dog. We do home and reference checks. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and are up to date with current vaccinations before being placed in their forever homes.

Story
Meet Chocolate! Chocolate, Choco for short,  is a spunky and loving little dude that is looking for his forever home.  He weighs about 18# and is considered a small breed dog.  He was neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated.  Choco is currently living in a foster home with a big female lab that is 5x my size, but he is not intimidated at all.  In fact, they are becoming pals and sharing toys.   Choco is full of energy and loves to play, but tends to calm down if those around him stay calm.   He is very affectionate and loves attention. He understands what “No” means, and if he hears that word, he stops what he is doing and comes back to the boss’s side of the chair for a little pat of appreciation.   Come, Sit, Stay, Outside, and This Way are all commands that his foster dad has been teaching  he is starting to understand what those mean.  He is just a little inexperienced in the ways of the world and it will take some work for him to become the best dog he can be. Choco does not like being alone and this needs work. He needs to be safely crated when he is alone or he will find things to chew on - socks, shoes etc. Choco is also an escape artist and needs a fully fenced secure yard.  He is being crate trained and is doing well but needs more work.  He sleeps in his crate at night.  His potty training is going well too.  Choco is extremely food and treat motivated, and will do anything for a treat. He is no couch potato and needs an active person or family who will take him on lots of adventures.  He loves going for walks and is still working on walking skills - walking in a straight line can be hard... Choco will do best in a home with another playful dog, a secure yard and kids over 10.  Choco is neutered, vaccinated and chipped. His adoption fee is $450. We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495.  Thank you for stepping up to save a life! To expedite to meet with this dog, please go to our site at www.savinggreatanimals.org and fill out an application. We look at the first applications to arrive, so we hope to hear from you soon! Story
MattyIce has one love language, and it's you. Specifically you, all the time, preferably within arm's reach. She's a sweet, easygoing girl who gets along with other dogs and cats just fine, but if we’re being honest, she's not really looking for a roommate situation…she’s a people-centered pup. She wants someone who wants a velcro dog. Someone who will be around, pay attention, and occasionally let her burrow her face into their chest and just stay there for a while. (Her foster does this regularly and reports that it is, in fact, as good as it sounds). MattyIce is pretty quiet around the house. She doesn't bark much, except to let you know that breakfast is taking longer than she'd like, which is a completely reasonable complaint and frankly, we support her. She loves playing with toys, rides well in the car, and is food motivated. Stairs aren't really her thing, but she's working around it. Potty training is still a work in progress, but keep in mind, she just started learning! She goes outside often but has had some accidents inside, so she'll need some patience and consistency on that front while she gets settled. She gets a little nervous in new settings, so a calm, predictable environment will do wonders for her. She hasn't been around young kids, so a quieter, adult home is probably her sweet spot. A single person who works from home? That might just be her dream scenario. Her foster would keep her in a heartbeat, but thinks that she just deserves more one-on-one time than foster life allows, and somewhere out there is exactly the right person with exactly that to give. MattyIce just wants to be loved. If that sounds up your alley? She wants to meet you! -----

A Quick but Important Note to All Adopters:
Please remember that none of our dogs arrive fully trained. Most come from tough or uncertain beginnings and may have never lived in a home or known basic routines. That means:

✧ They are not potty trained on arrival. Most dogs regress in potty training when moving to a new environment.

✧ They may lack basic manners (like leash walking or appropriate chewing).

✧ They’re learning, growing, and doing their best—but they will need patience, structure, and compassion to succeed.

The majority of these pups have lived in the confinement of a cage or kennel run for most - if not all - of their lives. Because of this, we strongly discourage the use of crates for anything other than vehicle transport. They deserve the chance to decompress and learn what true freedom and comfort feel like.

Our amazing foster homes work hard to start these dogs on the right path, but they are rescues, not finished products. These dogs need time, consistency, and a loving home willing to meet them where they are.

Also, breed designations are our best guesses based on appearance and behavior. We can't guarantee breed, size, adult weight, or coat type.
