Story
Meet Alder! Alder is a little dog with a big personality and an even bigger desire to be loved. This sweet Shih Tzu mix came to Emerald City Pet Rescue from an emergency veterinary hospital in California, and he is now ready to find the person who will make him feel safe, loved, and never alone. Once Alder knows you, he is all about his people. He shows his affection with kisses, excited little jumps, and plenty of requests for attention. Being close to his person is what makes him feel most secure, so he is looking for someone who wants a true companion by their side. Alder has a playful, energetic personality and loves his toys. At 7 years old, he has plenty of pep in his step and would be a great match for someone who enjoys getting out and about with their dog. He has fairly good leash manners and prefers to do his business outside, although he will use his run overnight when needed. He also travels well once he settles in, although he may cry a little at first in the car. Alder can be cautious when meeting new people, particularly men. He is generally comfortable with women, while men may need to give him some extra time and space to build trust. Once he knows you, he is affectionate and handles well. He is also still learning how to socialize with other dogs. A playful, patient dog may be a good match for him with the right introduction, while his comfort with cats is currently unknown. Alder does have some separation anxiety. He may cry and bark when left alone, although he eventually settles down. Because he really does not want to be by himself, his ideal home would be with someone who can spend plenty of time with him and understands that building his confidence around alone time may take patience. He is also a flight risk, so a secure environment and careful management will be important. Alder is one-eyed, but his eye is fully healed and he is doing well. He does have some skin sensitivity and can occasionally get itchy around his neck, which has improved with grooming and a short course of Apoquel. He is currently doing well without it. He eats a prescription Hill's Sensitive Stomach & Skin diet and will need regular grooming every 6–8 weeks, along with routine eye care, nail trims, and dental care. He would benefit from a professional dental cleaning in the near future. Alder may take a little time to feel completely comfortable, but once he decides you're his person, you'll have a loving, playful little shadow who is very happy to be wherever you are. If you're looking for a fun, affectionate companion who wants to be part of your everyday life, Alder may be your guy. Alder is neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped.

Story
Pluto is a fun, energetic puppy with a big personality and an even bigger love for playtime! 🐾💙 He loves playing with his sibling and his older foster dog, and he has tons of energy to keep up with all the fun. Pluto absolutely loves toys and especially enjoys when his humans join in and play with him! He is puppy-pad trained and can also go potty outside on command. We’re currently working on helping him learn to let us know when he needs to go. Pluto is a sweet, playful pup who would make a wonderful addition to just about any home. He’s ready to bring lots of love, laughs, and puppy fun to his forever family! 🐶 -----

A Quick but Important Note to All Adopters:
Please remember that none of our dogs arrive fully trained. Most come from tough or uncertain beginnings and may have never lived in a home or known basic routines. That means:

✧ They are not potty trained on arrival. Most dogs regress in potty training when moving to a new environment.

✧ They may lack basic manners (like leash walking or appropriate chewing).

✧ They’re learning, growing, and doing their best—but they will need patience, structure, and compassion to succeed.

The majority of these pups have lived in the confinement of a cage or kennel run for most - if not all - of their lives. Because of this, we strongly discourage the use of crates for anything other than vehicle transport. They deserve the chance to decompress and learn what true freedom and comfort feel like.

Our amazing foster homes work hard to start these dogs on the right path, but they are rescues, not finished products. These dogs need time, consistency, and a loving home willing to meet them where they are.

Also, breed designations are our best guesses based on appearance and behavior. We can't guarantee breed, size, adult weight, or coat type.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
At 6 years old, she is pretty much the definition of sweet and easygoing. She is a quiet little girl who is always happy to see you, wagging her tail and getting excited when her people come around. She loves her cozy spots and sleeps all night in her little bed on her foster’s bed. During the day, you’ll usually find her curled up in her bed on the couch, happily snoozing the day away. She gets along well with everyone — dogs, cats, children, and even small animals. She also rides nicely in the car, making her a great little companion for adventures. She is still working on potty training. She isn't quite used to going potty on grass yet, so her foster is giving her lots of encouragement as she learns. She also seems to have a pretty low-key potty schedule, usually only needing to go out a couple of times a day. Mostly, she is just a quiet, happy, sweet little dog who wants to be loved and be near her people. If you're looking for a gentle companion with a happy little tail and a big heart, she might be your girl. -----

Hi there! I'm LakeSerene, a 5-year-old Shih Tzu! I'm ready for my forever home, and I love car rides and playing with other dogs — the more adventures, the better! 🚗 I'm a little shy at first, but I'm opening up more every day as I build confidence with the people around me. ✨ *LakeSerene would do best in a home with one or more dogs. -----

Work from home, homebody or retired?! Are you looking for a companion? You might be a match for Arugula! 💚 Arugula is a sweet pup ready to find her forever home. She enjoys following you around and seeing what you are up to! She would do well as the only pup in the home or with another pup in the home that is calm and mellow. Arugula is very smart and ready to learn. She currently prefers women and is good with older children. A calmer home would be best for this beauty! -----
