Story
Zara, at 18 months of age, has an enviable zest for life! This fit 55-pound beauty with the long, bushy tail also has a calm, easygoing demeanor, and LOVES to be loved by her equally loving fosters! Thriving especially on her foster mom’s snuggles and hugs, she prances cutely about in excitement whenever she sees her, rolling over onto her belly, lying next to her and giving her a paw to continue the pets that she craves. She also loves the three resident youngsters, aged six, five and two, her eight-year-old doggy foster friend, and every other dog she has met, whatever their size. Enthralled by simply being outside and sunbathing, Zara also enjoys chewing bones, playing, particularly with stuffy toys, and going for walks and on hikes. Motivated by love and food, eager to please and easy to teach, she quickly learned “sit, “stay” and “come,” is leash trained, never crated (she sleeps soundly through the night) and is almost fully house-trained. Now all this loving “lady” needs is a loving family to complete her training, including her commands, and keep her mentally and physically fulfilled fur-ever.   Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes every pet should find a wonderful and caring home. To ensure each pet finds the best possible home, we ask you fill out our adoption application so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 48 hours (please check your spam folder for our emails). If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives!  A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.  The adoption fee for this pet is $375. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.  Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking  here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogs@arrcolorado.org for more information, as we can't accept calls. PLEASE NOTE:  The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter.  Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets.  Here is some interesting info on breed identification:  https://arrcolorado.org/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online.  We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet. 2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting.  Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member! Story
Hi there!  Mortimer here, checking in after arriving in Colorado! Im between 1 and 2 years old (no one ever told me my real birthday so the nice doctor at the vet's office took a guess) and the rescue people asked me to tell you a little bit about myself. I love tug of war!  I figured i would start with that since its really important that my new home like to play that with me.  I also like to play with other dogs, but can get a little scared if they are super loud and in my face at first.  I am "crate-trained" whatever that means, and enjoy these things called "leash walks" where i get to go out and smell and see new things.  My foster parents say that i have decent leash "manners". I've seen a cat a few times, and wasn't overly interested in it, but i have never lived with one, so I don't know how i would feel about that. I ended up in Colorado after someone dumped me in a very rural part of new Mexico.  A nice lady there found me and gave me food and water and shelter which was very nice, but she couldn't keep me so she found some nice people in Colorado to help me find a new forever home!  If i sound like the kind of dog you would like to hang out with fill out the application below and be sure to mention my name! Story
Dixie and Latigo come to us after their human dad passed and Dixie started escaping the yard on a regular basis. Their human mom recognized that she could not keep them safe and asked us to help. We of course said YES! Things they will need in their new home – a yard with a 6 foot fence. Normally we don’t require fences, but for these two a 6 foot fence is an absolute MUST. They will still try to get over it, but won’t be able to. They are still learning the finer points of being inside dogs, but are doing really well so far! Dixie is definitely the leader with these two – she’s first to try new things and Latigo will follow her. They are also learning about leash manners – and so far are doing really well!

Story
Meet Chevy! Chevy was picked up as a stray in southern Colorado, and after his stray hold was up the shelter contacted us to help. Chevy came in pretty beat up – he had several fly strikes on his muzzle and ears when he was found and was also very underweight. Upon arriving at the shelter, he vomited up several plastic bags, a clear sign he had been surviving on garbage for quite some time. Chevy was adopted and became Asher, unfortunately his adopters had some health issues that meant they could no longer take care of him so he came back to us! His favorite game is race car laps in a yard, so his next home will require a fenced yard. He attaches quickly to his people and wants to protect them, so a family who can help him learn that he doesn’t need to is a must. He also adores cats, so a home with a dog friendly kitty would be an added bonus! He is a champion snuggler who is perfectly happy to hang out with you (on or off the couch) while you binge the latest show. He will help you keep your counters clean of all things edible and check the trash for any wrappers that might have a tidbit on them, so a its important to be mindful of these things. he hasn’t lived with kids but has gotten along with kids that he met out and about.
