Story
Add a little spice to your life with this active young hound boy! Mustard is engaging and friendly; he's very gentle when being petted but can be enthusiastic and jumpy when stimulated by new people and dogs. Dogs? He loves them all, big and small. He's going to be a great companion and would probably do best with older children. Mustard came to us from a rural shelter in Murray County, Geogia. He's about 2 yrs old and weighs about 55 lbs. Mustard will arrive in late July. If you’d like to apply to adopt, please submit an application using the link below. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Koda, a 3-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound who didn’t have the easiest start, and you can see some of his story in the character of his nose and permanent head tilt. But don’t let that fool you—it doesn’t slow him down or affect his happiness one bit! Koda is resilient, joyful, and more than ready for the happy ending he deserves. ❤️ Koda is truly just a really good boy. He is sweet, affectionate, and loves attention. He enjoys the company of other dogs, but he’s also perfectly content to relax and be wonderfully chill. Whether he’s hanging out with his canine friends or soaking up one-on-one love, Koda is happiest when he’s with his people. And, of course, Koda is a hound—which means he comes with a big, beautiful voice! His bark makes an appearance when he gets excited, and it’s just part of his charming hound personality. He also takes to training easily and is eager to learn, making him a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys helping a dog continue to grow and thrive. After all Koda has overcome, he deserves a family who will see what a special boy he is and give him the love, patience, and forever home he’s been waiting for. He has so much love to give, and we know his happily ever after is out there.  Thank you for checking out our wonderful orphans. Story
Meet Daisy Mae! Adoption Fee: $499 Includes transport Adoption Application - Copy & Paste https://forms.gle/FmtRtYxQNnemdkdw9 This gorgeous hound is ready to leave her days as a stray behind and start the next chapter of her life with a family of her own. She was found wandering on hunting land and was thankfully taken in by a kind couple who made sure she received all of her veterinary care. Now that shes healthy, spayed, and ready to go, theyve asked Paws of Dixie Animal Rescue to help her find the loving forever home she deserves. Around 3 years old and weighing approximately 70 pounds, shes a beautiful, gentle girl with a sweet personality. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and currently lives happily with canine companions. She also does great with children, making her a wonderful family dog. Because of her prey drive, she would do best in a home without cats. This lovely hound has overcome a difficult beginning and is more than ready to be someones loyal companion. If youre looking for a faithful friend to share your adventures, your couch, and your heart, she may be the perfect match. Please submit your adoption application today—we cant wait to help this beautiful girl find the forever home shes been waiting for! Story
**Please read Barney's entire profile, which includes a link to the adoption application. Thank you!** Meet Barney, a 5-year-old Walker Coonhound / Beagle mix, weighing 55 pounds (as of 2/7/26). A sweet lady saved this angel from wandering the streets of North Carolina and brought him to us. Barney is sight impaired (though not blind) so surviving that long on his own is a true to testament to this boy's resilience! He's a miracle in every sense of the word and deserves, the best, more caring home to feel safe! Barney is a super sweet and very affectionate boy. In fact, when he was rescued by the random lady that found him, he slept with his head on her shoulder all night to say "thank you." This boy LOVES to be close to his people. We're not just talking sleeping next to you, either. He will fully lay on you! And guess what? You'll let him. Why get out of bed when you have this lover boy giving you a big hug every morning? Barney is great with every dog he meets, though sometimes he might feel vulnerable because of his eyesight. He'll occasionally get scared when bumping into things, but he hopes that after he gets adjusted to your home, he'll learn the lay of the land. Barney is also good with cats as the woman who rescued him had cats. While he only spent one night with the cats, Barney got the hang of being around them. Barney has only met kids on outings, but hopes to charm them too! Because of his eyesight, Barney loves interactive toys that make noise, so he asks that you pretty please be creative when it comes to helping him adjust in your home! He's good on a leash and is fine being crated (in fact, he eats in his crate). He currently hasn't had any accidents at his foster's house, but Barney asks for grace as he adjusts to the potty rules of your home. He doesn't know any commands currently, but if you're open to teaching, he's open to learning! Just remember to have patience with him. As Barney always says, Rome wasn't built in a day! When it comes to his medical history, Barney has Lyme disease due to the number of ticks that were on him when he was first found. Lyme disease has affected his kidneys, so he's currently on a vet-approved special diet that includes Doxycycline, Benazepril and other kidney supplements to help him. His foster has helped do bloodwork several times and his last kidney results showed improvements! Go Barney! He will need to stay on a special renal diet and Benazepril for the rest of his life; Barney hopes his future family will be there to help. Despite all the odds, Barney is still pushing forward! He's looking for his next guardian angel and hope it'll be you! Adopt this miracle boy today! All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be. To adopt or learn more about Harper Lee, you must fill out an adoption application. To find the application, copy and paste this URL into your browser: WWW.GDRNE.COM/ADOPTION-APPLICATION [Adoption Fee: $495] ** This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to New England shortly with no additional travel costs. The long distance adoption process includes talking to the foster they are living with in the south. Roughly 90% of our dogs are successfully long distance adopted and 10% adopted locally. PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
