Story
Meet Frida!
Fostered in the Covina area in LA County
This adorable one-year-old Yorkie mix may only weigh 9 pounds, but she has enough personality and energy for a much bigger dog!
Frida is an active, playful little girl who loves running around the house, playing fetch and leading a good game of chase in the yard. She’ll happily grab a toy—especially one of her favorite round donut toys—and take off in hopes that another dog will join the fun. She enjoys people, loves treats and food, and is affectionate, clever, curious and delightfully quirky.
Another small, energetic dog is a must for Frida. She loves playing with dogs her size, gains confidence from having a canine companion and becomes nervous when left without one. Her ideal playmate will enjoy her lively style and help show her that the world outside isn’t so scary.
Frida is crate trained, sleeps quietly in her crate through the night and can remain crated for a few hours. She also rides well in the car when crated (haven’t had her not crated in the car). She is still working on potty training and needs to be taken outside every few hours on a consistent schedule to continue with her progress.
Walking on leash is also new to Frida. She is nervous outdoors but is making progress every day! Because she can become frightened and try to slip away, she must be walked with secure equipment and will need a patient adopter who will continue building her confidence.
Frida does resource guard toys, pillows and food. She currently eats separately in her crate to avoid possible meal time conflicts. Her adopter must understand resource guarding, avoid grabbing items from her and be committed to using calm, consistent boundaries and positive training. For this reason, Frida needs an adult dog experienced home or one with respectful children age 12 or older.
My Ideal Home Must Have:
• Another small, active and playful dog
• A securely fenced yard where we can run and play
• Adults or children age 12 and older
• Someone experienced with resource guarding is a plus, otherwise someone open to continuing her training and learning how to handle resource guarding
• Patience with potty training, leash skills and confidence-building- she is working on ALL the things but training will continue in her new home.
• Secure walking equipment (proper collar and leash) and careful handling
Frida has not been tested with cats. She has no known health problems and is spayed.
Frida may be tiny, but she is active, spirited and sometimes a small handful. With an experienced person who appreciates her playful nature while helping her learn appropriate boundaries, this bright little girl has the potential to become a wonderful companion.
If you think Frida might be the perfect fit for your family, we'd love to hear from you!
