When approached too quickly, his instinct is to run and find a safe space. But underneath that fear is a truly sweet and even-tempered dog who has never shown any signs of aggression—even when being picked up or handled for things like baths.   Michael is also a smart little guy who is already starting to show small but meaningful signs of trust. He will now take treats gently from your hand, a big step forward for him, and it’s clear that with patience, he will continue to build confidence at his own pace.   He enjoys the company of other dogs and feels comforted by them. He’s a lively, affectionate little companion who loves to cuddle, play with his toys, and follow his person around the house. He’s especially obsessed with balls, tug toys, and anything that squeaks — though fluffy squeaker toys don’t stand a chance with him. He’s a smart boy who knows sit, stay, come, down, go potty, and leave it. He’ll “tell” you when it’s time for treats, potty breaks, playtime, or snuggles, and he even gives hugs. McFly is crate trained, potty trained (outside and on pads), and enjoys the freedom of a fenced yard. McFly does have a few special needs that his adopter should be comfortable managing. This sweet little girl is as cute as can be and absolutely adores her people. Lily follows her foster around everywhere, always greeting them with a wagging tail and hopeful eyes. She is a true lap dog who simply can't get close enough to the people she loves. Whether she's curled up in your lap, soaking up belly rubs, or sneaking in the sweetest little kisses (invited or not!), Lily's favorite place is right by your side. This darling Yorkie is completely blind in his left eye and has very limited vision in his right due to cataracts. While he’ll need a family willing to make a few thoughtful accommodations, caring for Gandalf is surprisingly easy. Once he learns his surroundings, he confidently navigates his world with patience, curiosity, and quiet determination. When Gandalf arrives somewhere new, he carefully explores until he creates a mental map of his environment. It took him about two weeks to fully settle into his foster home, and now he confidently wanders from room to room, happily following his people wherever he can. In a securely fenced yard, one of his favorite activities is slowly exploring every inch of the space. Once he’s familiar with it, he prances through the grass with the biggest smile, soaking up every adventure. If a fenced yard isn’t available, he’ll simply need to be walked on a leash to keep him safe. Gandalf is incredibly gentle, affectionate, and well-mannered. He loves nothing more than being close to his people—whether that’s curled up beside you on the couch, snoozing in your lap, hanging out on the back step, or following you around the house. He’s generally a quiet little guy who only vocalizes to happily greet you when you come home or when it’s time to come out of his crate. At night, he sleeps peacefully in his crate without a fuss. He’s also a curious little explorer. He loves wandering through the house in search of hidden treats, chewing on bones and small stuffed toys, stretching out for sunny naps, and investigating anything new at his own pace. He’s a wonderful eater, is doing great with pooping outside on a schedule, and continues to make progress with house training. He currently wears a belly band indoors while learning that peeing outside is just as rewarding. Because of his vision loss, rewarding him without eye contact takes a little extra patience, but he’s making steady progress. Simple verbal cues help Gandalf feel safe and confident. His foster family says “touch” before petting him and “up” before picking him up so he always knows what’s coming. Those little routines quickly become second nature and help him trust his people even more. Gandalf could happily live as an only dog if his family is home most of the time. Because of his blindness, he thrives on companionship and would likely become lonely if left alone for long periods. A calm, dog-friendly small dog would also be a wonderful companion, though it’s not a requirement. While he doesn’t spend much time playing with other dogs, he enjoys their presence and often uses them as a point of reference. He especially loves following his foster’s white dog outside, using her like a gentle guide as they wander the yard together before relaxing side by side in the sunshine. At just about 8- 9 pounds, she’s a delicate little soul who has survived more than she lets on. Missing most of her teeth, she sports a permanently peeking tongue, but she doesn’t let that stop her from enjoying life in her own quiet way. Albany is very fearful of human contact and still prefers to keep her distance, often scampering away when approached. She’s cautious with men, women, children, loud noises, and new environments—pretty much anything unfamiliar. But she’s slowly learning that safety exists, and she’s beginning to show tiny glimmers of trust: a tail wag, a quick dash toward her foster to sniff a hand, then a speedy retreat. These small moments are her version of bravery, and her personality is just beginning to come out.  When she goes outside, she likes to do the back scratch boogie, but only if no one is watching because well, she is still working on that confidence.   What truly brings her comfort is the company of other dogs. She blossoms around confident, friendly pups—playing, following their lead, and learning how to be a loved pet by watching them. A companion dog is essential for her continued progress. She would also do well with calm, patient adults who understand that trust for her will come slowly, in tiny steps, over time. This sweet girl is crate trained at night and sleeps quietly in her foster’s bedroom. During the day, she may bark a bit when crated but settles. Potty training is still a work in progress; she knows what she’s supposed to do outside but still has accidents, so diapers are helpful when she can’t be closely supervised. A fenced yard is required, as she is a flight risk and not yet comfortable on a leash.  Although she has started getting a bit better at it, she will still freeze when a car goes by so until she can master the leash, a yard will help keep her safe.   Despite her fears, Albany has shown moments of joy—playing with toys, interacting with other dogs, exploring the yard, and even showing a little goofy side. She has great potential with the right family: one that is patient, gentle, quiet, and willing to let her set the pace. With time, love, and a confident canine friend, Albany will continue to grow into the sweet, quirky little companion she’s meant to be. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love.
