Story
Mookie is a beautiful 10-year-old Pit Mix, weighing about 65lbs. She was in a foster home for a couple years before being transferred to our rescue.Mookie is sweet and playful with the people she knows and trusts. She will need multiple, slow introductions, but once she trusts you, you're in for all the love! Mookie always keeps her kennel clean and enjoys playing with squeaky plush toys and snuggling in bed. She loves to go on walks with her volunteer friends. Mookie's favorite outdoor activities include sunbathing and taking naps in the pool.Mookie has been diagnosed with arthritis and hypothyroidism. She is on meds for that as well as some allergies and seems to be doing well! In her older age, she has lost her hearing. Mookie is looking for a home as the only pet and would do best in a home without children.

Story
Marlo is 4.5 years old and guessed to be a Saint Bernard/ Pit mix. This beautiful girl has been at WCHS for over 3 years. She's all muscle (weighing in around 80lbs) and goofy, loving eyes. While some might find her looks to be intimidating, this girl could not be sweeter. The shelter staff adore this girl and she gives just as much love in return. Not only is Marlo loving, she is very energetic and active. She loves walks and does great with her harness. She is a big fan of our fenced outdoor pens where she can run and play with toys. Speaking of toys, Marlo LOVES balls: tennis balls, basketball-sized balls, giant indestruct-a-balls. You name it, she's playing soccer with it. She does need some training with play time as she can get too excited when you go to grab the toy and will try to grab it at the same time as you. She will gently jump up onto you for love and to give kisses, too. Sometimes she'll even climb onto your lap to snuggle. Marlo needs an active and strong leader who can help her be her best! She is looking for a home without cats or dogs. She would do best with older children as she is a big strong girl who loves to jump and run. Are you looking for an active dog with lots of love to give? Marlo would love to come home with you!

Queenie is a gorgeous, 5.5 year old, 70lb pit mix who is just a giant baby in disguise. She is full of energy and loves to play! She has no knowledge of personal space and just wants to be on top of you and in your face. She loves to greet you with her sweet face and wagging tail. She would make an excellent companion and cuddle buddy! Queenie has been at WCHS for over 3.5 years waiting for her forever family. The shelter staff adore Queenie. She is such a wonderful girl who has been overlooked for quite a while.Queenie can be a little timid at first, but once she meets you, she is a lovebug and a goofball! Her favorite toys are giant rope toys and hard chew bones. She loves to run in our fenced outdoor pens and enjoys a good walk with her favorite people. Queenie would do best in a home without other dogs or cats. She would do best with no young kids. For allergies, Queenie is on a Hydrolyzed diet. She also receives Apoquel daily and Cytopoint injections. Please help us get Queenie out of the shelter!

Truett Survived It All. Now He’s Just Looking for Love ❤️ Truett has lived through heartbreak and hardship, but you’d never know it by the way he lights up when he sees his people. Found in a ditch off Hwy 55 with a badly injured leg and in unbearable pain, Truett’s journey could have ended there. But thanks to the kindness of a stranger and the unwavering care of Hopeful Tails, he got a second chance. His leg was removed to save his life, and he has not looked back since. Story
Due to breed restrictions at my apartment complex, I am sadly looking to rehome my dog, Kahlua. She was brought home to me through a trusted co-worker of my father who operates his own business. She is a one-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier with a wonderful personality, full of playful energy but just as happy to relax and enjoy being pet all day. Kahlua is loving, affectionate, and thrives on attention and companionship. I am looking for an experienced owner who understands the breed, is comfortable with training, and has the time and dedication to give her the care, structure, and love she deserves.

Story
Anchor Arms: A Bikini Bottom Legend on Four Paws Named after Anchor Arms from the iconic series SpongeBob SquarePants, Anchor Arms is a very sweet, energetic and playful ~6 months old Pit mix. This boy is going to be a large adult dog, and while he is a very friendly guy he is looking for an owner who is ready for lots of exercise and training to help him grow to be the best adult dog he can be! We think that he would do fine with other animals and children, but would assume he will still need work with housetraining due to his age. Thinking of adopting? "Well, now you too can have muscles! With Anchor Arms!". His adoption fee is $150 and he is now neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. Please stop by the shelter to meet him during open business hours, or call/email with questions: 630-553-9256 or animalcontrol@kendallcountyil.gov. If you would like to place a 24 hour hold, you can do so by completing and submitted our online application via email.
