Ollie is a loving, playful, cuddle bug of a best friend. He’s an 8 year old pit/lab mix that has been in the care of his owner for 5 years. Ollie is good with cats and other dogs. Ollie is overall in good health! 2 years ago Ollie tore both rear ACLs but had TPLO surgery followed by 6 months of hydrotherapy physic therapy. He can do anything and everything a normal dog can. Ollie loves to be your best friend. He will often tag along as you roam around the house with a toy in his mouth and a wagging tail, just happy to be a part of your life.

Story
Meet Sara — Courtesy PostSara is a 74 lb mixed-breed dog who is ready for a fresh start in the right environment. She is spayed, fully vaccinated, and heartworm negative. Sara knows basic commands, is house trained and will go in a crate. Sara has been non reactive to cats. Sara has gone home with volunteers, attended off-site events, participated in meet-and-greets, and spent time with various new faces — all without incident. She has shown she can be a loving, affectionate and engaging companion.Sara does have instances of resource guarding behaviors, and this is something her future adopter must be prepared to manage and continue working on. A professional trainer has worked with and evaluated Sara and determined that while this behavior is trainable and manageable, it is not something that can be adequately addressed in a shelter setting but should not hinder her being adopted.Sara is currently thriving in a foster home, where she has undergone through training and continues to work on her behavior with structure, consistency, and guidance. She is making progress, but she will need an adopter who understands resource guarding and is committed to ongoing management and training. She walks well on a leash, however a fenced yard would be ideal. What Sara Needs to Succeed• Adult-only home• Calm, structured environment• No other pets at this time so her training can remain the focus (although she is NOT dog reactive, she just needs to focus on her own needs at this time)• Commitment to continued behavioral work and clear boundariesSara is a staff and volunteer favorite. She is affectionate, intelligent, and capable — she simply needs the right match and continued support.Sara has so much potential and deserves a home that will give her the chance she needs to truly shine! If you are interested in adopting Sara, please complete an adoption application, and we will reach out to you right away to schedule an appointment. ** Note, Sara is in a foster home, she is not currently housed at MCAC ** Sara`s adoption fee is SPONSORED!

Story
Hi, my name is Betty, and I’m a very sweet girl looking for a loving home of my own. I’m the kind of dog who loves being right by your side—whether that’s relaxing together or keeping you company around the house.I tend to be on the calmer side, making me a great match for someone who enjoys a more laid-back companion. I’ve done very well with other dogs and have even played nicely with a puppy! I also know how to sit for treats and always take them gently—good manners included.I would do best in a home without cats, as I get a little too excited when I see them. A home with older children would be ideal for me, where everyone can respect each other’s space and enjoy calm, happy moments together. If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle companion who will happily stay by your side, Betty might be the perfect match for you. ??If you are interested in adopting me or another homeless pet at Macomb County Animal Control, walk-in adoption hours are Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm.My adoption fee is Sponsored

Story
Hi, my name is Barney! I’m a fun-loving guy with a big personality and even bigger energy to match. Playtime is my favorite part of the day—especially when toys are involved! I’m an active boy who loves to stay busy and would thrive in a home that enjoys exercise, games, and plenty of engagement.I already know how to sit for a treat, and since I’m very food-motivated, continued training would be a great fit for me. It’ll help me channel my enthusiasm while learning new skills—and it’s a fun way for us to bond, too!Because I have so much zest for life, I’d do best in a home with older children who can keep up with my playful style. I’ll also need a cat-free home, as I get a little too excited around my feline friends. If you’re looking for a happy, energetic companion who’s ready for fun, learning, and adventure, I might just be your perfect match. Come meet me—I can’t wait to show you my playful side! Story
Meet Barley — our most eligible bachelor! You may already recognize this handsome guy from TikTok, where he’s stolen hearts left and right. Barley is a roughly 5-year-old pit bull mix who is a staff and volunteer favorite, and once you meet him, it’s easy to see why.Barley is pure joy wrapped in a blocky head and a constantly wagging tail. He loves treats, adores gentle affection, and has a way of leaning into you that makes you feel like the most important person in the world. His spirit is happy, goofy, and full of life—and he greets each day with enthusiasm and gratitude. While Barley does have a visual impairment, it doesn’t slow his zest for life. He thrives in calm, predictable environments and navigates best with kind people who give him a little guidance and reassurance. He has done well with other dogs who are respectful of his space and not overly pushy. His experience with cats is unknown, so slow, thoughtful introductions would be needed.Barley is currently undergoing heartworm treatment, which includes medication and injections to help him fully recover. Our team will guide his adopter through the process every step of the way. Once his treatment is complete and he is neutered, Barley will be ready to enjoy life to the fullest with his forever family. What Barley offers in return is immeasurable: unwavering loyalty, gentle affection, and the kind of love that only comes from a dog who truly appreciates kindness. He melts into your side once he feels safe, eager to please and endlessly grateful for the humans who choose him. His adoption fee is fully sponsored—all Barley needs now is someone willing to open their heart and home.If you’re looking for a sweet soul, a treat-loving companion, and a dog who will love you with his whole being, Barley is ready to meet you.
