Winston is a pit that I found in Columbia, South Carolina! He was running around on the road and I was able to grab his attention and get him picked up and sent to the shelter. He got checked for a microchipped and he did not have one. I was then told that they did not have space and he was either going to have to get adopted by me or get euthanized that same day. I ended up adopting him and have loved having him since. Unfortunately he is a fully deaf dog and it is hard to give him the full attention he needs since I am in college. He is fully crate and potty trained which has led me to believe that he was unfortunately dumped sometime. He is between 1-2 years old and about 50 lbs. We have been feeding him up as his ribs were showing when I found him. He a super cuddly and playful dog just needs love from the right family who can take him on a walk couple times of week and cuddle him! He gets along with some cats, cooped up chickens, all dogs, and kids!

Sara knows basic commands, is house trained and will go in a crate. Sara has been non reactive to cats. Sara has gone home with volunteers, attended off-site events, participated in meet-and-greets, and spent time with various new faces — all without incident. She has shown she can be a loving, affectionate and engaging companion.Sara does have instances of resource guarding behaviors, and this is something her future adopter must be prepared to manage and continue working on. A professional trainer has worked with and evaluated Sara and determined that while this behavior is trainable and manageable, it is not something that can be adequately addressed in a shelter setting but should not hinder her being adopted.Sara is currently thriving in a foster home, where she has undergone through training and continues to work on her behavior with structure, consistency, and guidance. She is making progress, but she will need an adopter who understands resource guarding and is committed to ongoing management and training. She walks well on a leash, however a fenced yard would be ideal.
