Make A Difference in your Community - Adopt a Shelter Dog! Would you like to foster a Shelter Survivor? For more information, visit us at www.sheltersurvivors.com Meet Junior! He is a sweet and adorable 3 year old pit mix. The shelter contacted us after he was with them for about three months. They tried very hard to find an adopter for him, since he is perfectly behaved, housebroken, and loves people and dogs, however, this poor boy is vision impaired, and was constantly overlooked. He does see some movements and can sense the difference in light and dark, but when we took him to the veterinary ophthalmologist they diagnosed him with PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy). It is not painful, there is no cure, and he will eventually lose all sight. He does not need any medication, although there are vitamin supplements that the ophthalmologist said might help slow the progress of the disease. Dogs don’t go through the same psychological issues as humans do when they lose sight, and since dogs rely heavily on sense and smell, and the vision loss is gradual, they adapt very well. Junior is the bravest dog we have ever seen, and smart too! Although he can be a little tentative when meeting new people or exploring new places, he learned the layout of his foster home within two days. He jumps on and off the bed (he loves sleeping with his foster mom), and he has mastered running at full speed down the hallway and leaping into “his” chair! He goes up and down about 5 steps to get out into the backyard, and he is now a pro at that too. It looks like he is prancing when he walks, but he is really lifting his feet up high to avoid any unforeseen obstacles. It’s adorable! Junior is a wonderful and affectionate dog. He is being fostered in a home with three other dogs (male and female, large and small) and he gets along perfectly with them. In fact, he follows the other dogs cues which make it easier for him to learn new things. He plays with them and sleeps with them (when he is not cuddling with his foster mom). His foster family makes sure not to move any furniture or leave large objects out that he could trip over. He goes for walks in the neighborthood, plays in the yard, runs around the house, rides in the car, and does everything a sighted dog can do. Junior is about 50 pounds, neutered, up to date on all his shots, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is completely housebroken and although his foster family crated him for the first few weeks, he no longer needs a crate and is perfectly behaved when left alone. We think Junior would do best in a family that has one or more dogs. He loves people of all sizes, however, he needs a family without small children that may startle him. He is an awesome dog, and we are so excited to help him find his forever home! To adopt Junior, please complete our online dog application at https://www.sheltersurvivors.com/application.html and return it to sheltersurvivors@live.com. Or go to sheltersurvivors.com, click on the home page, look for "Application" at the top of the home page, and complete the application. Hit the submit button once you have completed the application in its entirety. This will expedite the adoption process. Adoption Fee: $250.00

Story
If interested in adopting me please contact Carrie at 731-267-5535 or cabowman67@yahoo.com for an application. Hi, my name is Petey and I am looking for my forever home. I was found as a stray and brought into rescue where I have been staying in a foster home. I love meeting people and am really friendly going up to everyone I meet on my walks. I am an active boy and enjoys playing with toys, going on long walks, exploring, going on adventures of all types. I also enjoy being a lapdog as well. I know what you are probably thinking, that I am too big for a lapdog but you can't ever be too big to enjoy a soft lap after a day of adventures. Okay so I do have a few little tiny quirks such as I love to chase cats (but who doesn't.... it's fun) so a cat free home would be best. Also I do love adventures so at least a 6ft fence is a plus and a privacy fence is a big bonus. I do get along with submissive female dogs but I am picky on male dogs. I was in a foster home with a lot of pups and I really enjoyed playing with them. So even with my little quirks I know there is a great home out there for me and I will make a great companion if you would just give me a chance.

Story
If interested in Lulu please contact Carrie Bowman at cabowman67@yahoo.com or 731-267-5535 for application and to learn more about her. Silly, sweet and loving describes Lulu perfectly oh and she also resembles a pig so we have nicknamed her Pigit. This sweet girl wants nothing more then to be loved and to give kisses. She is awesome playing with all the other dogs in the foster home and enjoys playing and exploring in the yard. Lulu is still young and has a lot of playfulness about her. She will need an active home where she can go places, meet people and be part of the family. She loves being a lap dog and enjoys her cuddle time when she isn't busy playing. This girl has so much personality that you can't help but love her. She is going to make a great addition to any home.

Story
Our girl Faith was left in a kill shelter in KY.  She had rescue but they backed out when they heard she was a little too "interested" in cats.  Faith is ultra submissive and will roll over & give her belly for anyone.  There is not a mean bone in this girl's body - but she does have issues with CERTAIN men. She's about 10 years old & plays appropriately with other dogs big & small and is bunkmates with MJ on our site (who is 1/2 her size).  We would consider her med energy but has much love to give! Because of her fear aggression when it comes to most men, we cannot bring her to adoption events so an appt would need to be made to meet her. Our adoption fee is $325 and all of our pets come with full vet records. All animals are up to date on vaccinations & dewormed. Unless otherwise indicated, puppies are NOT spayed or neutered since our vet recommends waiting until 6mos of age to do so. Please keep in mind we are a Rescue Group and most of our pups come to us with little or no background info regarding breed, eventual size, age or prior health issues. We rely on the expertise of our veterinarians and make estimates based on past experience. Also, when you're adopting from a Rescue, you should ask questions! You should always get shot/medication records and the rescue should have had the dog for a bit of time to check for disease. Take the time to educate yourself before adopting. A reputable rescue will have nothing to hide and will answer ALL your questions!!! Please visit our Web Site to see all of the pets we have for adoption. Our site contains information about our adoption process and fees, our application, and answers to frequently asked questions. Please read it carefully before contacting us. If you are interested in adopting THIS wonderful pet, we strongly encourage you to complete our adoption application now. Once we receive and approve your application, we will notify you of approval. The first application to be received and approved will get 1st choice - be sure that your references are available and willing to speak with us. Thank You Visit us at one of our next events.
