I have had a leash reactive pitbull, Lily, for 1.5 years and she is about 3 years old. Although I practiced all the training I know, she has barely improved. She is now aggressive towards my cocker spaniel when I leave the room. The big change lately is that my older dog who was a teaching dog crossed over the rainbow bridge due to old age and pancreatitis. So now there are only two dogs at my apartment. My cocker spaniel is not aggressive towards any dog or human. Right now she isn't food aggressive. She needs a home with a fenced in backyard where she is the only pet (no cats or dogs) and she cannot be walked safely. When she's inside, she's a normal dog that snuggles and chews on her nylabone. This young pit bull mix has had a tough beginning, but you wouldn’t know it from her gentle, affectionate nature. She spent much of her early life outdoors with an unhoused family, and while she didn’t always get the care she needed, she has remained friendly, trusting, and eager to bond with people. She’s 9 months old, very cuddly, and has done well with other dogs and people so far. She’s still learning the basics of indoor life — working on housebreaking and crate training — but she’s smart, food-motivated, and responds well to structure and routine. She has received medical care and is now stable. She will need to complete her spay (pre-paid) and a bit more medical follow-up, and we have training lined up for her once she’s fully cleared. She’s on a great path — she just needs the right home to continue that progress. A patient, loving adopter (or foster-to-adopt home) who can give her consistency, help her finish her training, and show her what a safe, stable home is!
