Story
Meet Shay! The most adorable, happy "squishball" as her foster mom calls her! Shay is the full package. She is crate-trained, potty-trained, and has excellent indoor manners. Her favorite hobbies are playing ball, going for walks, and just running around her yard with her foster family. Shay absolutely loves people and has never met a stranger! She is the perfect balance of happy energy and a couch potato. Her foster mom says that Shay is very respectful in her interactions with people and is always excited to say hello, but will immediately sit at your feet if affection is offered. She is quickly learning how to sit, wait, and come, and she has learned how to walk nicely on a leash and is always up for an outdoor adventure. Shay is always happy with getting her foster mom's attention and just wants to find a forever family where she can be everyone's best friend. As if she wasn't special enough, she also has one blue eye and one brown eye! She has lots of love to give and can't wait to meet you!

Story
Bruno is a sweet loving boy who needs a home with a large area for him to play and maybe a few kids. He is unaware of his size and can sometimes scare smaller dogs with his size + energy, but he is not aggressive AT ALL. Small children and toddlers may get unintentionally hurt pr knocked over by his energetic love… so older kids are probably best. He is very smart and eager to please, so he is very trainable. I have done my best but I’m too busy to give him the proper training he needs and I don’t have the space to keep him. He was supposed to be a foster that I’ve had for 4 years now. He is a sweetheart and I love him, I just can’t afford him nor do I have the room for all his energy.

My adoption fee has been fully sponsored. Adopt me and pay $0.00!!!My name is Gracie—and I am well-named! My previous owner reported that I was affectionate, housetrained, and good with kids! Shelter staff have found me to be sweet, attentive, and delighted about walks and treats. I have a steady, sweet personality. I was surrendered to the shelter because I was not getting along with the other female dog in the home. I may be dog selective (meaning I like some other dogs, and don`t get along with others) or I may do best as an only dog. Slow introductions with any other pets are recommended. Please think about the positives in Gracie and give her a chance!Gracie went on an adventure away from the shelter, and her adventure buddy had wonderful things to say about her:`Gracie hopped right into the car to sit quietly in the backseat for the drive to Blackwood Farm Park. As we went on a 3-mile hike through the meadows at the park, Gracie was very good on the leash and did not pull. She clearly loved being out on the trails and checking out the new scents. She had such a happy attitude it made the hike even more enjoyable for me and my husband. There were other people and dogs at the park and it was nice to see that Gracie was not reactive to any of the dogs. She just watched them quietly for a few moments before turning her attention to something else. Gracie was fun to be around and an excellent companion.` I am currently available in my foster home. My adoption fee has been partially sponsored. Adopt me and pay only $50.00!Hey there, my name is Teddy! I am a sweet and energetic boy looking for his forever home. I love treats, meeting new people, and going on walks! I arrived at the shelter as a stray, so not much previous infomation is known about me. please ask staff if you have any questions. Our sweet boy Teddy went on a field trip and here are the lovely things his adventure buddies had to say about him:`We really enjoyed hiking at Blackwood Farm Park with Teddy. He was a little shy when we first met him, but then he quickly showed his super sweet and affectionate personality. He seemed to especially like my husband, and wanted to rest his head against him whenever we stopped for a break. We got the feeling that he will really blossom when he finds his forever home. He did pull on the leash, so he could use some leash training. We both think Teddy will make a great addition to some lucky family.`Notes from Teddy`s foster family:`Teddy is a really great dog and we strongly believe once someone decides to come meet him they`ll fall in love. He`s learning how to be affectionate, and plays very well with our dog. They take breaks, he stays bouncy, and takes turns chasing. His biggest struggle is just getting into things or chewing. He does understand where the toy bin is, and we can pretty consistently re-direct him now. However, we still need to monitor him, but we have seen growth and give him more freedom to lounge on the couch and outside. He`s taken to a leash extremely well, only bunnies and cats completely steal his attention. He was nervous around cars initially, but we`ve managed to pair with treats and now he looks to us when they pass :) Additionally, he`s totally unreactive to anything that we pass. Whether it be a reactive dog behind a fence or one we`re passing. He tends to just pull away and to the side or look to us for a treat. Really good default leash behavior :) Mild interest in bikes, strollers, etc but easily re-directed when prompted for attention. He is still a countertop surfer so he can use more help and training with that.He is such a great dog. Loves to play, will lay & cuddle. Agreeable for going to his ke

My adoption fee has been fully sponsored. Adopt me and pay $0.00!!!Hi there! My name is Phineas. I am a large-sized, energetic and smart fella. When you’re out with me, be prepared to attract attention because I am very handsome! I enjoy playing outside, learning new things and eating yummy treats. Don’t let my size stop you--I’ve interacted well with the shelter team and seem responsive to training. I walk well on a leash, and love to smell the smells. I know a solid ‘sit’ and take treats nicely. I am very food motivated and would appreciate a safe space to enjoy food and treats away from other animals. I have so much love to give and can`t wait to meet you :) Please ask the front for more information about me!

Hi there! My name is Deuce. I am a medium sized, strong and curious fella looking for a furever home. I enjoy being outside, eating yummy treats and learning new things. Volunteers say I am a great running friend and stick pretty consitant to the path!My previous owners mentioned that I was primarily kept outside, loved chew toys, good on car rides and used to staying in fence (but tended to escape). I was unable to stay in my previous home due to me not doing well around the children. I can also be weary of new people and head shy so I will need my new family to be patience and go slow with me as I adjust to my new environment. I love treats and would appreciate training to help me build my confidence :) Please ask staff if you have any questions about me.

Story
Lucy is short for Lucinda, and she is a great dog who loves cuddles and sleeping in the bed with you. Lucy lost her dad in 2022 and has been living with ever since. Due to financial reasons and my schedule, I can no longer take care of her. She does suffer from separation anxiety and does not like being in a crate and is scared of thunderstorms. Lucy is an inside dog and has no problem sleeping all day and lounging around being lazy. She also enjoys going outside and playing with kids and other dogs of her choice. She does not get along with all dogs but if you warm her up to other dog's she eventually becomes friendly and will play with them all day. Lucy is really well trained for recall and can sit and give kisses for treats. She is potty trained and will only pee and poop (potty) outside. Lucy was rescued as a puppy and she is 9 years old. I would like someone who would love her and give her the home she deserves that unfortunately I cannot give her no more. Shes truly a blessing.

Story
Griffin is a charming young pup with a delightful personality! Smart, friendly and playful, he adores all toys, and is always up for an adventure. Eager to please and motivated by tasty treats, Griffin is attentive when practicing basic commands. He has mastered a beautiful "sit" and "down," and he is fully crate-trained. After a busy day of sniffing and playing with his foster sisters, he's happy to rest in his crate with a tasty peanut butter kong, and he sleeps through the night in his crate. Since Griffin is very curious and wants to learn about everything, crating when unattended remains the safest option for this inquisitive guy. Griffin would benefit from continued training on a leash. He pulls because he is very excited to see everything he can as he walks. He barks and pulls when passing people and dogs but is working on keeping eye contact with his walker. At this time Griffin will require a detached home with a fenced yard. Griffin's current favorite outside play is anything involving a ball! He LOVES a super-bouncy ball and returns it for another throw. He also enjoys sniffing for treats as we walk around the fenced yard; lounging in the sun and chewing on a ball is a great way for him to spend an afternoon. He has interacted with children but is jumpy with the excitement of meeting new friends, so for now, older children would be the best fit for him. Griffin likes other dogs but requires a slow introduction. Once he's comfortable with new dog friends, all's well and he follows their cues. When he's not busy playing or training, Griffin wants nothing more than pets and snuggles. A lovable cuddle bug, he curls up right next to you once he's worn himself out. Griffin will thrive in an environment that will keep him active, engaged, and supervised. Smart, spunky Griffin will only continue to blossom in a patient and loving forever home! Could that be you? HEALTH Griffin is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and neutered. HISTORY Griffin came from a local shelter.

Loves food with chicken and salmon He prefers kibble size food or soft food bigger kibbles he does not do well with table food unless it is chicken and rice loves to run around the house in circles as if he was outside maybe because I do not have a fence for him to do that activity outside. Indoors pet he cries when left outside too long. Loving pet to have he is crate trained and house broken will stand at the door to go potty and make a loud cry if he needs to go outside to poop. Have had him since he was 6 weeks old he was hyper for me to put in my small cat to take to the vet since he was smaller but he is regularly bath which he does well with little to no shedding. Spoiled pup so a little tender love and care plus a little more training and activities he will be the best pet ever

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.  All dogs on our website ARE available and require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application before you can be considered or meet any of our dogs. Please consider this sweet girl today! Here is our application:    https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC Frannie is a sweet and beautiful, Blue Brindle Pittie. She's about 15 months old and weighs around 45-50lbs. She is gentle natured with lots of personality. She's super cute and will give you a silly, full body "giggle" wag! She loves being with her people and is a wonderful companion.   Frannie has done well with her crate training and house breaking. She needs to be crated when left home alone (6-7 hours), and as of now she is crated overnight. She's food & toy motivated, eager to please and is learning basic manners. She is gentle with food and waits patiently for her meals. At times, she still acts like a puppy, but overall she has good impulse control and likes to chill on a dog bed and entertain herself with a bone or toy.   Fran overall has great leash manners but may need reminders to "settle/leave it" when something excites her. She can be an alert barker and would do best in a home not an apartment. Although, she goes potty well on leash, she would really enjoy a fenced yard to get her "zoomies" out. She has a moderate energy level and after playtime with her foster siblings, she enjoys exploring the yard and sunbathing on porch or lounging on couch/bed. She also likes to play fetch and learning to bring back.   Frannie would do best with good natured, neutered male dog that could help guide her when she's unsure. She would do ok as an only too as she loves getting attention from her humans. She would do ok with older kids (8+). She's good with "dog savvy" cats, but if kitty is shy and runs, the chase may be fun -slow and appropriate intros are always recommended with kitties.   Like many other rescue dogs, Frannie had an unstable start to life and has some insecurities, but she will open up quickly with treats and sweet talk. She has been in foster care for over 9 months and has come along away from the shy puppy she was. She would succeed greatly with a dog experience owner that can continue to build her confidence. Breed experience is always appreciated, but she would be fine for a first time Pit Bull owner. Please consider adopting (or fostering) this sweet little lady!   Check out Frannie's videos below! My adoption fee has been fully sponsored. Adopt me and pay $0.00!!!Notes from my foster: Overall Hunter is doing really well, and loves going for his walks and snuggling up on the sofa in the evenings. We have found that he is fairly low energy. We take him on a 2 to 3 mile walk in the morning, a 1 mile walk in the evening, and let him out in the backyard for some explore time each day (he mostly walks, not runs, here). And that seems to be plenty of exercise for him. He spends a lot of the rest of the time napping, and is always calm in the house. Also, our experience is that Hunter doesnt mind the company of other dogs. We have never seen him show any aggression towards them at all, even if they act aggressively towards him, and he always really strongly wants to meet other dogs, and then whines a little when we don`t let him. One day on a walk, another dog got close and came racing over to Hunter. Hunter was delighted and sniffed noses and did the play bow and was super happy to have a new friend. Hi there! I am a beautiful medium-large sized, shy but curious gal. My previous owners are no longer able to care for me, but since arriving at the shelter I am learning to trust new people and opening up. I enjoy yummy treats, long walks and learning new things. I respond nicely to people who are kind and slow. I can be an escape artist, so I will need a safe and secure enclosure when I spend time outside. Staff recommends slow and monitored introductions to any new people and animals in the homes. Please ask staff if you have any more questions about me. I am currently available in my foster home.
