Story
Luckys been with 1 family all 14 years of his life, he will follow you all around the house just so he wont be alone, he can barely walk due to old age but he has his happy days where he'll try to throw a couple jumps in, he's moved with me everywhere the time I was in college. Hes done well with other people and pets . I could walk him off leash and clap my hands if hes going to far, his hard of hearing forced me to use hand signals so he knows what I'm saying , he growls when hes eating and gets defensive sometimes. Overall it breaks my heart to let him go but I rather find him a good home then put in a shelter or worst, to sleep. Luckys a hell of a dog. He has heart, brains and alot of love put into his life, he just needs a home that can do the same and watch over an old man while he watches you.

Story
Hello World!  I have a story to tell and my name is connected to my life story that almost ended in my death.  You see my name River is a name with a meaning as to how I came in to the rescue.  When you hear this story I hope that you will never forget the miracle that my living and surviving the heartless act of a human who once owned me.  About 2 years ago it seems that my owners couldn’t take care of me anymore and they must have been too embarrassed to turn me into a local shelter.  What they did instead was take me down to the river  close to one of the boat docks and they tied me to a tree and left me there.  Unfortunately it was a time of year where not many people were coming to spend time on the river, so I waited. I waited a very long time and all I could access was the water and there was never any food. I was so hungry, cold and wet staying there on that chain.  I waited and waited with no shelter and no food.  When I was about to give up and die, this kind man discovered me there and untied my chain and put me in his truck. I was so weak and hungry I can barely remember the ride. Next thing I knew I was being carried into this really nice place and everyone was petting me and talking to me, telling me not to give up. There was food and fresh water every day. I got to go outside to a big playground and run!  They took great care of me and I was happy for once.  I was safe. Turns out I was heart worm positive and they took  care of that too and treated me and now I am free of heart worms.  Gosh they fixed me up just right and I am fully vetted and even have a microchip! A lot has happened in my short life.  I was two when I arrived but now I am about 4 years old and weigh 65 pounds. I have been in this wonderful place that is kind of remote in Alabama.  Critter Cavalry Rescue has offered to get me some extra special exposure to the world and to introduce me to people that might recognize how special that I truly am.  I try so hard to be a good girl. I know how to sit and be still for treats and be gentle when they give me my food. Yes...I am a Pitbull mix and that seems to get in the way of people considering me.  I really don't know why but it does.  I have the most special spirit but for some reason I really don’t like to be around other dogs and that kind of stops some people from taking me.  I guess I will never forget being so hungry and I feel like other dogs might want to take my food.  I just want a home where I can be the only girl that will lavish all my love on the family or person.   Lots of people are afraid of dogs like me because I am Pitbull mix.  But I am super sweet and will give you tons of kisses if you will just give me a chance.  PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.   Sorry, we cannot adopt to MA residents.May 29, 2023, 8:33 am

Story
A more handsome Pit Bull you will never see! Not only handsome but smart and sweet as sugar! His story, we were on our way back to the rescue where we had just been dealing with an emergency case that took us to Alabama and back. We were all exhausted and ready for a good rest when we came upon Piglet laying on the yellow line in the middle of the highway! We stopped, stopped traffic and rushed to his side. He didn't appear injured, just completely exhausted. We carried him to the van and brought hm back to the rescue. We put him in a private run while we examined him. No outward injuries so we gave him fresh water and food. This dog slept for 3 days. We believe he had been walking for days and days. We attempted to find his owners but to no avail. When he finally got up and started walking around, we noticed he had a slight limp so we brough him in for x-rays. He had an old hip injury that needed surgery so we had it done right away. The surgery is called a Femoral Head Ostecomy, or FHO. He is now fully recovered, heart worm negative and fully vaccinated. Piglet needs a forever home! He loves children as most Pitties do so if you have kids, even better. We would like him to be an only child. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE LOCATED IN TENNESSEE AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MEET OUR PETS PRIOR TO ADOPTION! ADOPTION FEE $400

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   SLINKY-Girl was transferred to GaDaH from a high kill shelter in Texas on 22nd April 2023. We take a lot of pictures and videos and don't always have the time to post them on the dogs individual webpage and adoption site, so we ask that you go to the rescue  YouTube channel  and  photo albums on our Facebook page  to see a LOT of pictures and videos.      SLINKY-Girl is spayed rabies, core vaccines, heartworm/tick tested negative. She is on monthly prevention, microchipped, has an estimated date of birth of 8 January 2023 and at the time of transport weighed 18.4 pounds. We have no way of knowing what the actual breed is, so it is up to people to look at the pictures and video's to make up their own mind. SLINKY-Girl is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine for an adoption fee of $550.       This adoption fee covers the cost of running a brick and mortar rescue as well as any transport, veterinary, food,   treats, toys costs and the many expenses that rescues endure to keep the pets in their care safe, and happy.     Be sure to read all the information and if interested, go to the rescue website to submit an adoption application. https://www.giveadogahome-rescue.org/forms/form?formid=5838 The rescue buys food in bulk, by the truck load and there are a variety of brands and flavors. None of the food given is less than a 4* food rating. There have not been issues with eating any of the varying foods. It is important that you do your research on the ingredients and speak to your vet or a nutritionist on grain vs grain free! &#226&#128&#139You MUST understand that dogs need time to decompress and adapt to their new environment and home. It is a HUGE transition they make from the kill shelter, being vetted, on transport for 3 days and arriving in Maine where the temperature and such is very different to what they have only known. In rescue there is what is known as the "3 Point Rule" Days 1-3 your dog is stressed, anxious, confused as to where they are now. Weeks 1-3 your dog is adjusting, settling in, learning things. At the 3-month point, your dog understands they are home, and have built up a trusting relationship where they feel loved and secure. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the ADOPTION INFO tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 1-2 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then we can schedule your appointment to come to the rescue in Sebec, Maine for meet/greet/adopt Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. https://www.giveadogahome-rescue.org/forms/form?formid=5838 ALL Dogs are LOCATED AT THE RESCUE IN SEBEC, MAINE. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx. 8 miles) and approx. 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
