American Shorthair kittens & cats in Brighton, Michigan

Bagheera is a wonderful cat, he is incredibly friendly and loves to have windows to be able to see wild life outside. I recently had a promotion at work and my schedule has left me with less and less time at home and he deserves someone who is going to be home with him more often. He is very dog like, he loves to play with feathers and tunnels. Would do well with another animal in the house but not required.

Scout is a wonderful 3 year old male black cat. It breaks my heart to be looking for a new home for him because he is such a sweet and cuddly boy. In May, I had a baby and Scout is struggling to figure out that he cannot play with the baby. He previously lived with older children and had no issues (7&11 years old). So he would do fine in a home with older children as he is extremely loving and playful. Since finding him as a kitten, he has never had any issues with using the littler box (zero accidents outside of his litter box). He received all vaccines when he was a kitten, but has not received them since as he is an indoor cat (willing to get him up to date if you would prefer prior to adopting him). I also have a dog (12 pound maltipoo) that Scout loves and plays with. I have also had my brother's dog stay at my house multiple times (also a smaller dog), so Scout is very comfortable around dogs. He hasn't been around cats, but I know he would love them once comfortable.

We adopted Handsome about 5 years ago when he was a kitten. He had all his shots and was neutered, that was a requirement of the adoption though I don't think I have the paperwork anymore. He's pretty well behaved, housetrained, doesn't eat plants or chew or scratch furniture, and can be very loving. He's skittish and a scaredy cat, runs from strangers and is afraid of thunderstorms. He's an indoor/outdoor cat. We started having issues a couple of years ago, we also adopted his mom and they started being unfriendly towards each other. This has developed into full blown fights and they don't get along anymore at all. Also, when he sees another cat outside, he'll yowl and hiss at it, his tail getting all puffed up and freaking out. During these episodes, he can lash out with misplaced aggression, both I and my daughter have been scratched by him, though we've learned if you approach him gently or give him a snack, we can move him away from the window. We really want to rehome him. :(

Chloe and Eddie's Story/Official Up for Adoption post Life on the streets is never easy and even with a caretaker providing food, Chloe faced harsh circumstances. She had recently given birth to a litter of kittens, although we will never know how many there originally were as there was only one surviving kitten. Eddie, only a few weeks old was being kept under a wheel barrow to protect him from the elements and a tomcat that wanted nothing more than to rid Chloe of her kittens to get her in heat again. This tomcat was obsessive, constantly stalking Chloe's every move and watching to get at Eddie. Thankfully, the caretaker realized help was needed and contacted BKR for help. Jen immediately jumped into action, grabbing supplies to secure Chloe and Eddie and get them safely inside. After a couple of days, enduring the harsh temps of Michigan winter, Jen had both kitties safe inside the caretaker's house. Unbeknownst to anyone, Chloe had already become pregnant again and as Eddie grew, so did Chloe's belly. Chloe gave birth to 6 new babies, but one was stillborn. Over the next couple months, everything went well. Kitties were happy and healthy and it was time for vetting and going up for adoption. With almost no notice, we were told the caretakers were going out of town and that they planned on taking all the kitties to the shelter. This broke our hearts as we scrambled, trying to figure out a plan. Chloe was taken to the shelter, ripped away from her babies and the comfort and safety of a home she had become accustomed to in the past 6 months. She was stressed and reactive which led to her being labeled as feral and they decided to TNR her. A couple days later, they took the kittens to the shelter. Had we been able to get a foster home on such short notice, we truly wanted to save them all from having to go to a shelter, but time wasn't on our side. Jen adopted Eddie to get him out and we were able to get Chloe before caretakers released her back to the streets. Originally, there was an adopter for both once kitties were settled, but Chloe had regressed and Eddie had become very sick and a few days later, Chloe developed the same symptoms. Both kitties were taken to Leslie's house where Jen and Leslie took turns caring for them, ensuring they ate, got their meds and anything else they needed. With both doing much better physically and mentally, we are now reaching out to find Chloe and Eddie a safe haven for the rest of their lives. We would love to keep them together as they have been through so much together and are comforted in each other's presence. See Peanut`s Transformation! From the Streets of Detroit to Lap Cat Just one day before February’s 2025 bitter cold set in, Peanut’s life changed forever. Peanut was rescued when a caretaker contacted a PAAW volunteer about a cat that started coming around that had a wound on the neck and was gurgling when breathing. The plan was to trap him and get him to a vet but Peanut didn`t show up the next morning, so a PAAW volunteer searched the neighborhood and managed to trap him just in time.We had to hold Peanut until we could get a vet appointment, but in just weeks of him being trapped, treated and neutered at the vet, Peanut who was dirty and a beat up tom cat who came in down and out, with an old abscess wound on his neck has had an INCREDIBLE transformation with his foster! Turns out with just a little bit of time, Peanut is a sweet and affectionate guy! Peanut likes being brushed and petted, soaking up every bit of love he missed for so long. He is already using a scratching post. Peanut`s foster and the volunteer that trapped him have given him a second chance at life, and now he’s ready for a forever home where he’ll never have to fight for survival again!The vet said Peanut tested FIV+, probably from all his year of being on the streets. We don’t know what Peanut has been through living outside, but we do know he deserves a great home with all the food he can eat! We are hoping he may be just the guy to add to your family! ***********FIV+ cats need love too! FIV is species specific, meaning only cats can be infected. FIV+ cats can live just as long as non-FIV cats. If introduced properly, FIV and Non-FIV cats can live happy and healthy lives together.
